do any of u uses engine oil as a lubrication??? meaning u use old engine oil...

thats really a cheap alternative. but read from previous threads that lube with EO have to do much more often.

but using a brush and applying EO is easy and not so much fling if you let it settle.

but EO might be stickier and have loads of sand and grime after a while.

some might argue that EO might not be viscous enough to enter the parts that require lubing.

its not as viscous as proper lube. but it works well.

yes, you have to lube with more frequency, but after spending so much on a bottle of lube would you spray often?

eo is cheap and easy to apply with a squeeze bottle. saturate, leave and wipe off excess. every week.

using eo i have used the same chain for over 1.5 years. and gauging on how much i can still tighten, another .5 - 1 years.

chain lube/wax is much stickier than eo.. that y ppl say eo will fling easier compare to the previous products..

eo will stick less debris but will be loss/break down faster resulting in much often application is needed..

actually low viscous is gd as it can flow easily.. so can reach the gaps well..

yeah.. i should say its not thin enough to reach into the needed areas.

EO won't fling much if correctly applied. wipe off excess with a cloth loh and leave it to seat overnight before riding.

its best to lube at the end of the day when you park your bike after your return journey and your chain is warm.

Hi people,

actually for chain lube, where do you spray it on exactly?

I have been using Maxima chian lube and it's good. For years I have been spraying onto the rollers, but is it supposed to be on the pins and covers itself?

Damn hard to get the spray onto the pins even if I am using the supplied tiny, red tube.

The other side of the chain is tough man...very small space to insert the tube. Thanks for the clarification.

Bro, the can got illustration lah...but it juz points to spray on the chain front and back. :\

No wonder I have been lubing my chain religiously, yet chain still cannot make it. :\

heehee yeah loh can got diagram to show how and where to spray

also may i add, lubing chain religiously doesn't mean it will not wear and tear. especially if your sprockets are already up lorry and sharp on the teeth.

Hi,

as the pictures belows illustrates, the correct and exact place the lube is supposed to go is onto the O-Rings itselves.

Crap, been wasting $$$ spraying onto the rollers all these while. :slapforehead:

The amount of lube going to the O-rings is minimal at best.

i tried maxima chain wax, but cluster would form up easily especially at countershaft sprocket side.

Now trying maxima syn chain lube, its in the form of white foam.

I try spraying on top of the chain while I turn the rear wheel so that it covers the entire chain, I don't find the need to lube both side of it as the foam expose to atmosphere it seems to break down into fluid and naturally "cover" each part of the chain.

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

Oh crap! Same case here. Always lubed the rollers instead. Guess I have to do it correctly next time round! Thanks for the info! :thumb:

have been lubing it the wrong way too

using EO is better IMHO. feel the bike smoother. BUT the downside, it flings a lot a lot! everyday after ride can see all the stains on the tailboard. :(

Hey my s4 chain looks brownish bronze in colur. And has lots of sand and old thick black grease on it.. How do i get rid of the grease on the chain? Heard people say use kerosene but very uncomfortable with the chain guard over it and stuff.. Do i take out the chain guard and femove the chain and sproket myself to clean it.. or is there other ways to clean the grease on the chain?

Bro,take out the chain guard, use a new paint brush dip in kerosene and brush it all around the chain, slowly you'll see all the dirt and build up grease coming off,do remember to standby lots of old newspaper to soak up the splashes. After that use paper kitchen towels or clean cloths to dry the chain, wait awhile and apply maxima chain wax. Results can be seen.

For those who have been using EO to lube their chains and find that there is a lot of fling, try using gear oil instead. EO usually comes in w40 or w50 weight for bikes, try using w90 or w140 weight gear oil. Less fling (even though still flings) and last much longer than EO.

I bought a bottle (1L) of w90 for $8.00 at autobacs bukit batok. will be trying the w140 weight after this bottle finishes.:cheeky:
