hi guys, going to clean my chain for my sp for the first time this weekend... since i dont have a mainstand, is there any better way to elevate the bike so the rear wheel can spin freely? i dont have a jack or paddock stand at home, is it possible to use some bricks or phone books at the "stomach" of my bike?

also is the process of cleaning correct?

1) get chain warm

2) spray chain cleaner on bike

3) scrub the hell out of the chain with a brush

4) wipe off grime

5) apply chain wax (inside of the chain only)

6) wipe off excess

7) have a beer

thanks in advance guys....

Cheap + fast = no good

Cheap + good = not fast

Good + fast = not cheap

guys/gals...another interesting chain story..

when was the last time you have cleaned your bike chains...????

if u cannot answer this immediately.....hey most probably your answer is..

so loooong ago..cant remember ...some may say need to clean meh??????????

if that is the case..i suggest you check your chains condition..

recently came across one bike during installation of the ezzyoiler..the front sprocket cover is missing..

on further enquiries was told the chain snapped and it all ended rolled up at the front sprocket and broke the cover..fortunately no one was hurt..thats why he came after replacing the chain/sprockets.

so dont let this happen to you..get your chains maintained properly.. i love my ezzyoiler

I usually use Belray Superclean on my chain. Like the title states...... SUperclean. No mess, no fling. Every 500 km, lightly spray some. Every 2 months during bike wash, spray a cloth with GT85 and slowly wipe grime off chain. DO NOT USE WD40, its a degreaser, and will eat up ur "o"ring's grease.

so you dont clean your chains except..only once every 2 months just wipe down..

why need wipe down??

super clean chain lubes...promises no road grime will stick to chain...so still need to wipe down?

this is what i understand from belray website..

"Bel-Ray® Super Clean Chain Lube is the latest innovation in chain lubricant technology, combining unsurpassed anti-wear protection for long chain and sprocket life with an outer protective coating that will not attract dirt, sand, or grit and ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT FLING OFF when used as directed. Suitable for all ‘O’ ‘X’ and ‘Z’ ring and roller type chains for street, off-road, and racing use"

Wipe down and recoat to get that **new** chain look, nice and white! Or else it gets a little grey.... Tried many products in my time and I must say Belray works for me. Cleaning with WD40 on non "O" ring chains are okie but with "O" rings.........no no. The chain just get noisier and noisier later regardless of how you lube it. Engine oil works too but freaking messy. Grim builds up on the jiffy stands and flings like National day Fireworkx. Dun believe? Take a dollop of grease, spray WD40 on it and see how it breaks down. Yep that's what happens to your chain "O" rings or "X" rings. Tried WD40 on 2 different chains and rode it differently, also same conclusion.

Try using Beer crates, tilt bike up on side/jiffy stand, stuff plastic crate under frame. Rock bike to make sure its planted enough and begin process!! Not suggesting you to steal crates from the Kopitiam.......... but can ask if they allow you to buy/take 1. Build rapport with your neighborhood kopi shop boss now.:)

so..belray...still need to clean chains...off course..

if u dont clean chains every 500km or so..road grime will eventually shorten your chain life..

thats the beauty of oilers..it clean your chain while lubing it...

it is definitely easier to clean rims than chain..

personally i have not used belray...i dont like

the chicken shiit look of some chain spray..no ofense intended...

when overspray ..looks like you have went for a cross country ride..or in the rain..

kerosene = cheap, yes

but will kill "o" n "x" rings

My manual says use kerosene. They say don't use petrol or diesel because it will destroy the o-rings. I'm with ezzyoiler on this one.
