my bike actually come with an oiler, do not know what type of oiler is it. messy cause the oil flings a little dots onto the rear rim which could be a concern for some. I just find the taping of the bottle applicator n running of tubes could be ugly for some. For me I am too lazy to clean so oiling is the bare minimum.

I removed the entire thing because the bottle cracked n just gravity feed the oil into the tube n controlled by two air valve control.

Nope it was upright one, I think had to pump from those under one dollar bottle shampoo dispenser. Must be DIY I think.

Anyway I removed the entire tubes, drilled a small hole on the chain guard, installed 2 valves, 1 to control the oil drip and one to shut it totally. So the oil drips from a container at the top down onto the chain. No hard surface for the chain to grab if anything fails. I ran it fast dripping with all New but many years old oil I have to clear the dirts and will eventually run thicker more consistant oil. cost next to nothing to make but it is very convenient if you are like me who is lazy to oil chain. Previously I was using an oiler syringe to oil, Also can but side boxes and no main stand means have to bend low to do it.

i just use normal engine oil for my spark 135. apply every 2-3 days or after rain. chain now is 50,000km and sprocket 58,000km. mechanic checked for me last week and told me it still good and there is no need to change. i using cheap normal chain without O ring.

i think maintaining proper tension and pick up smoothly is more important then what you use to lube it.

How do you lube? use a brush?

i brought those $1.50 small oil bottle. it small enough to put under the seat.

a brush will only work well if you are using sealed type chain (O ring, X ring, Z ring chain etc). for normal chain, you need to get the oil in between the rollers. there are 4 main points on the chain that you should lube. but don't swear over the details, i only know the proper lubing point after riding about 50,000km. as long as you try to get some oil on it, you should be fine.

2t oil very dirty leh. later the bike all oil hard to wash

2t is easier to clean than grease/sticky lube .. personally tried b4 . I installed ezzyoiler and it cleans my chain very clean. Cleaner than I use kerosene to clean ..

Nice vid thou I think it will be too time consuming if done on the whole length of the chain.

But still, nice of you to put in the effort to do the vid.

How long do chains usually last?

My Hodaka Sprocket and DID Chain installed in Apr 2010. Lasted me for about 32,243km.Quite recently, the chain fell out of the sprocket during a very slow speed turn at a carpark. Got it adjusted a few weeks back at my mech. The chain feels tight and loose, tight and loose when riding.

Time to change?
