I request Simon to let this thread remain open for me to post picture after i came back. I will be going alone with my wife on a DR 200 and we have change some of the location of visit and traveling on a road less travel..

When we reached Ayer Keroh realised we got a rear puncture. Tried to replace the tubes without success, end up check in into highway hotel.

During the night, our dearest friend (who refuse to be named )rode there at 2 am and back singapore after he helped us to change tube and brought 2 more spare and some accessories for us. without this Bro help to move the bike movables (we learn the crucial skill of changing tube tyres that day as we watch him change the tube) or we would not be able to find AMKia contacts, and arrange for tyre change in Melaka.

The scrambler tyres were not available there, hence wait for help to purchase from Singapore to arrive at Melaka. The bike shop owner help to arrange for cheap lodging near the shop. He would only receive the tyres by 10pm, only can install by morning for us to start our trip.

 

IT was at this stage we decided to relook at our plan and due to the time and cash available to go to plan C (plain of Jar )

As we travel up north, not certain if we can make to the border before it closes. What was the operational hours of the Thailand border @ Sadao?

We came across a gentleman who rode a F800GS riding on road shoulder at 80km/h.

After talking to him, realised he travelling alone to Thailand and Laos taking one month leave. Uncertain of the custom operational hours (we thought was by 6 or 8pm closes) we intended to rest at Changloon. The rider suggested we go to Butterworth where we can lodge for RM50. So he lead us there. Fuchow Hotel in Butterworth next to Railway station.

There was a change of plan and we bid him goodbye as we rushed to the thai border.

The thailand border operational hours Sadao is 0600 to 2300hrs (thai time)

After paying for our tickets(2980baht 2 pax 1st class sleeper), approach this counter for booking your bike.

This guy would take your train ticket, passport, vehicle log card to calculate the cost to transport the bike to next destination.

In total, 1128baht for transport plus the handlers insisted 250baht tips to carry little fcuk. The bike would arrive at Bangkok before we do.

After the documentation was done, bye bye and sayang her....

We still have 6 hours in Hatyai before our train leave station 1820hrs. We went loitering in Hatyai, leaving our luggage with the hotel for safe keeping.

At Bangkok railway station, purchase of Nong Khai tickets at counter 1 to 3. There are easily 20 counters. Nong Khai 1st Class sleeper for 2 is 2490baht. Checking the bike only done around noon. So we got to come back to station to do paper work.

After our KFC lunch, we went to check into a chinese operated guest house near the station to wash up and rest. It cost 250baht wo air con. We lay to rest and bathed before heading to station for our train departuring 2000hrs.

Returning to the booth, paid 1078baht plus 100baht tips to handle our bike. This time, our bike was taking the same train with us.

A sticker would be pasted on the seat of the bike w recipet no on it. The owner need to produce the other part of recipet to collect the bike.

Loitering in Bangkok, it was very hot. We end up bathing cold water 3 times before checking out in the evening. Wasn't able to find any money changer to change our 10, 20 and 100 USD into 1 dollars note for custom purpose.

Strangely, when we approach the owner of the guest house- he had some. We bought over his USD19 x 35baht.

Found another guest house near the railway station with air con and looked more pleasant.

After passport clearance, the carnet for bike must be surrendered at the thai side. The fine is 2000baht upon next entry if forgotten.

Park your bike, check with custom officer; collect your visa from them too- they would direct u to the main building. U need to go to Room 6 of level 2 with all necessity document of the bike along with your passport. For 200cc bike, 160baht for travelling in Laos for 7 days. It is subjected officiers approval. Officer is in Room 8. Remember to be nice.

Afterwhich, have your passport stamped. Go to the Entry for Veh, surrender the above....pay 160baht for entry. They would then generate the carnet for u. Keep it in ziplock bags and waterproof it.

After purchase of insurance, paste the given sticker on your bike. U were free to proceed.

We ran into some problem so had to re modify our approach to the trip so we give Cambodia a missed this year instead we try Laos beautiful mountain route

Day 6 - Dinner at Phou Nam

A Laoist lady skidded w her kid just 5m in front of us. The kid pillion flew into the mud longside of the road, in order not to hurt her- we skidded too.

Left knee abrasion when the bike skidded. Our bodies and belonging all covered in mud. The breakdown vehicle remained there for 2 days! This part was very slippery. During downhill time, legs all down and flintstone through.

It seem the road was covered w mud when the local dig a drain for the rain and mountain water to irrigate their padi field. When rains cometh.....Flintstone through one might still skid.

To make things worst, learnt that the local does not need driving or riding license to use motorcycle and truck. The lady w her kid are some of these examples. Others can be seem thru the truck did their turns......they used all the available lanes including yours. Each turns are breath taking.

 

After the fall, we clean the little girl wound. Lift the the kap off the mother leg. They zoom off without even saying anything. It took us sometimes to make do with First Aid we got. 3 areas of knee abrasion got to disinfect, bandaged before we proceed into the night. Nearly 8pm sun was down. We were not even near the intersection Phou Khoun yet. My wife waterbag, can coffee took the impact for her.
