Hey guys, Im changing into a 2a soon.

Im deciding among Gsr/Cbr400/Rvf or Cb400 Spec 3.

I will be enlisting in 2010 after may and most probably riding til Ord before changing into a class 2 because of the limited army allowance.

My friend told me since i'l be riding for more than 2years, why not get a Spec 3 which is newer, less problems too. But i'l have to change the exhaust cause i want a loud pipe and mod the outlook. Whereas those sport bikes have an acceptable exhaust sound, cheaper(except Rvf), and i dont have to spend much on outlook.

well, think about ur needs. Do you need to store things? If yes, then u'll need a box which s4 will be the obvious choice.

Money wise, all the 400cc sportsbikes are old bikes. So expect quite a lot of problem from them.

GSR400 which is my fav is also new as compared to the sportsbike, bu maintenance is ex. GSR uses class2 tires and storage space is limited. Outlook is definitely 'fierce'.

RVF400 is quite different from the rest of them due to the V4 engine, inverted fork and having pro-arm. Electrical problems are common for this old bike. But the price you pay for this old bike can get u a younger Super4 spec 3 anytime.

CBR400, cheaper than RVF400, uses inline engine which produce better mid-high range power. Age wise is older than RVF. Exhaust you can get it easily as it uses same exhaust as S4.

There are several other 400cc which u did not mention but u might wanna take a look might be Suzuki Bandit, Suzuki Impulse, GSXR400, Kawa Ninja400, Suzuki SV400.. If you wan a new sportsbike then most likely it would be the Kawa Ninja250 (looks nice too)

Practical Test Checklist:

√ Sudden and late braking

√ Faulty signal lights

√ Superb use of horn

√ Assume road belongs to father

√ Never at fault no matter what happens

√ Tailgating confidence

Result: YES! You qualify to become a Singapore car driver!

There is also something of needs and wants. If you say you are going to enlist in 2010, why not juz stick to your class 2B. You must take not that during the first few months you will not be able to ride your bike and most likely will be parked at your place till you book out. Some more for class 2A there is also the thing of insurance, road tax, parking at your place.

Lets say you go to command sch, SISPEC or OCS, there is a time frame of 9 months to 1 year which you will not be able to ride. Some units doesn't also allow their men to ride in.

But if cuz if you wanna get a bike, CB400 is good as maintenance is relatively low as compared to the other bikes.

For GSR cos it's a new bike and also uses class2 tires, etc. Maintenence wise is quite high.

For the other bikes RVF or CB400, there are old bikes. Juz fixing the wear and tear is already a headache.

But that's all. Depends on you too.

why never considered a DRZ??? less it's not a sportsbike, but it's everything much better compared to the others 2A series..

less maintenance, 2A tyres, reliable engine, almost "crash proof", good FC..

ask yourself what you are looking for.. from your list, the odd 1 out should be cb400, cos its a naked bike therefore not in the same category. so it looks like you are looking for a sportsbike.. if that is so, then find 1 that suits your budget, the 'newest' 400cc sportsbike should be rvf.. otherwise can look for kawa ninja 250cc..

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

Oh yeah. All of you makes sense. And thanks for all the replies, really appreciate it.

However, Im really bored of sp man, the speed, sound, 2t and size. Dont think i can tahan one more year seriously.

For super4 spec 3, i have to drag installments and i wont wna ride a stock bike, so i have to spend on mod. For cbr400 i can full payment, so yeah. Im still in a dilemma btw s4/cbr man. Super headache.

And btw, you guys recommend L or R model for Cbr400? Heard some people recommended me L model and its a No-no for hurricane. For L model, less problems and faster yeah?

Ahaha I like its outlook and all, except for the sound. However i prefer sport bike. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. (:

Hmm even I have t store things, I wont put a box. I'l take a sling or backpack instead. You know hokkien sayings "ai swee mai mia". Ahaha!

If the previous owner of those sport bikes take care of them and all, when i take over i also take care, so I still can whack casually right ? Electrical problems i know quite difficult to escape. But kinda cheap right?

I think you've more or less settled on an old sportsbike, i.e. cbr400/gsx400/rvf400. These bikes are old, so have low resale value. You can get one from as low as 1.5k to maybe 5k for a well-maintained one with many mods. RVF, expect prices from 5k to as high as 9-10k. Since you've already considered the factors like no box, maintenance high, etc, just look around the garage sale forum or visit the bike shops and see if you can spot a sportsbike that takes your fancy. Go and make an appointment to look it over and have a chat with the owner to find out more about it. From there you'll be able to make your decision.

Good Luck in finding your 2A dream bike! :thumb:

V twin is the cylinders tilt into a V shape. And inline is the 4 cylinders are in a straight line.

The v-twin motorbikes are best known for their ability to carve corners. Although the top end horsepower is not as much as an inline four cylinder engine, the torque is far more and comes at a much lower rpm.

Correct me if im wrong. (;

I think you might as well settle for a VTEC Spec 3, like ur frenz shared with ya its newer and quite unlikely you'll bump into problem.

Since ya be enlisting, cash flow wise kind of restricted so don't really recommend ya to spend that much on modification. Use the money for installment, servicing and ur makan... by the time ya ORD, most probably you have complete the installment? (subjected to your DP and loan)

TS also mention that you be taking CLS2, by the time you need to take out a CLS2 bike from shop with this fully paid SPEC 3 even better.

Juz my opinion :cheeky:

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine
