That's because if the bike can last that 10 years (and with good care a 6 year old Phantom looks and sounds as good as new), might as well give her a new outlook

seriously, i was thinking about getting a windshield. then i went to pinkphantom webbie (no offence) but it's always updating, and i nv see any windshield. i also went to ahkoon and he warned me about getting lousy ones that gets scratched easily. please advise.

Bro, I tot of getting one previously but after modding my ride to wad it is now, I dun think a windshield will look good on it! And to top it up, I saw someone using it which made him looks very ah pek and therefore changed my decision instantly. Hahaha... sorry to be a wet blanket....

Just giving it a new coat of paint to make it look nicer!

Windshield:

 

Up to personal preference. If I can get a sporty and aerodynamically efficient w/s design it can increase efficiency at highway speeds by reducing drag caused by the rider's upper body. It does not have to be so huge as to cover the face, just direct air over my head at speed (fluid dynamics, remember?)

 

GIVI brand looks okay by the above standard but you will lose out the look and feel of a classic custom just about instantly. However your crusing FC may go up slightly (practically no weight addition, and reduced drag vs rider) and you have something to hide behind if you run into a head on 30 knot gust of wind.

 

Well, it's a wind shield right?

 

Note that drag increases exponentially above 90kph - we're wasting a lot of fuel generating the HP need to push us through the air above that. That means windshield may be only minimally useful in local riding conditions. Or if you want to imagine the Phantom is a sports-tourer and speed all day. Which you can do.. it's a custom after all!

 

For PureIce's pretend Harley, you don't need a big windshield, something like a Harley Road King, small with a custom headlight arrangement will work well for the big handlebars too, like the below example.

But you know those small shields are as good as the "windshield" on a Yamaha 125Z. Totally useless even aerodynamically. They may even ruin your cruising FC because they're causing more drag on the nose, not diverting air over the rider as a proper aero-aid should.

 

For me personally, erm, no need. I prefer having my chrome unobstructed because in clear weather the headlight is like a sky dome

Bro, the tank cover suppose to be shinny lah! Hahaha, guess my DIY re-spray skill is lousy and therefore the shines not there! No matter, I can re-do it and hopefully it'll be shining with some burning flames on it!!! Well if all fails, I'll send my bike to the pros! As for the rest, I'll have to visit your mototiam for help! Still love your chrome Fork & that top plate where the 3 signal lights is! How they did it?

I think matte black looks great on a cruiser because it gives that metallic "steampunk" feel of bigness.

 

For inspiration just look at a classic steam locomotive - huge and foreboding.

 

I may or may not be able to assist you with the custom decals. I last did this stuff years ago for my 125Z using paper tape with curved designs hand-cut using art knife.

 

I'm not exactly sure how we managed to have so many custom shapes and no paint damage (even after 4 years) but it involved sanding down, priming with matte black, then a few layers of primary colour, with long drying and baking in direct sunlight between each layer.

 

Once we let it bake the whole day, we applied white paper tape to the whole part (fenders and side panels), hand-cut the shapes at night then sprayed on the final design layer the next morning, bake, clearcoat, and bake again. Once set, car wax and it's good to go.

 

I'm serious that this gave me a no-maintenence paint layer that wasn't even scratched after years of direct sunlight, rain and road use. Pretty amazing what DIY can do considering I don't wash my 125Z

Sure, go ahead! As for the DIY paint job, that was the problem, we did it eventhough it was raining and therefore the paint, I think, did not cure properly. I have the flame template already cut out but din spray it because the base paint wasn't dry. I'd tried sticking it on the template and the base paint came off when I did some shifting. I need to probably find another method or some other kind of material which is less adhesive.

We can do it without sticking on the template You just need to hold it in place for the duration of the spraying.

 

Actually with some thinking I'm quite confident on a method to get the flames on without much hassle. We just need two diff shades of orange and yellow.

 

Must thank my 125Z for the inspiration.

seriously, love ur handle bar and front signal lights! did u have any trouble weaving in between cars? been thinking of getting a wide handlebar for a long time. but when i think of the jam in the morning peak hour to sch, i decided not to change. lol. was also contemplating of putting 2 e45 boxes as side boxes as i got 2 of them but the thought of not being to squeeze in between the traffic deters me from doing so.
