$11,000 at Minerva before insurance. (Last price check was early June 2005)

They still have stocks I believe.

For comprehensive insurance, would depend on your age and experience. Generally, naked Cagivas attract low insurance because they are few and therefore the probability of an accident claim on them is low.

I had ride Tessa's Bike recently and have this urge of letting the future planet rider know how good condition it is! I felt kinda estactic and happy and amazed that the engine is still this good. Its out of goodwill that i am informing future planet riders. Its not that i get comission.....free lunch at most maybe....

Ppl with licence who r interested in planet pls test ride at least another planet to tell the differences, n i believe this is one of the best planet beside new ones.

N some will be like me wondering Y the hell is her planet not sold yet?? She was telling me too busy to meet up for bike viewing......is that true guys? Did anyone of u all manage to view the bike?

is the planet just like other 2 strokers in the sense that it vibrates a lot that makes it uncomfortable during longer rides?

Resolution for 2009, stay healthy, get wealthy, make more friends, ride safely & pass all exams!

Fellow planteeers, i need some help on where i can get new clutch and brake levers?? Mine both broken liao... Plus i heard that minerva have no more spare parts for the planet... anyone knows if other generic types of levers can be used??

What about throttle grips?? anyone knows any generic brands i can change to??

Thanks...

Hi angelus_conceicao, I just got my grips replaced at Minerva. Bought the old Monster grips for jus $12 a pair... grip is good even in rain but not as soft as the new Ducati grips! Give it a try.

I think Minerva still has stock for Planet parts... and are expecting one last parts delivery from Cagiva this month. So you can still try calling them to check. Or else you can replace with other brands also, levers are not so customized (i think!). Mah Private is not expecting to take over service for atleast 2 more months (just spoke with them today).

Does anyone happen to have a new/used Planet speedometer? Mine broke and cant be repaired. I hate to replace my Cagiva speedo with any other brand for my beloved Planet, even if its cheaper... hehe!

Please help ur fellow planet rider in need... call 90015646. thanks!

Hi. I managed to tryout the bike, and i would like to concur with the poster's views. The bike IS in very good condition, in the sense that it has not been crashed, scraped, etc. everything appears stock (ok, confession - me not planet owner/ excessively technically gifted, but then. . .)

It is VERY low mileage. and the speedometer is not lying - it is the original, and shows signs of oxidation at parts (chrome not shiny), so it is not as if a new odometer had been replaced, that's why the mileage is so low. brake discs are hardly worn too.

the only downside is that some minor parts of the bike are showing signs of rust (e.g. exhaust header, some bolts).

so it is a bike which has hardly been ridden. go and see to believe the mileage.

why am i doing this? cos i think i owe her a favour for initially expressing interest, and now realising that i cannot afford another bike in the house.

Yo bro.... thanks for the great info... hard to find fellow planteers already... btw wat colour's your ride? i saw a yellow planet at bedok interchange last night... belong to any of you guys??

We really have to bring this thread back to the good old glory days where it isn't a talk c*** thread and mainly for sharing info and DIY tips... Hopefully all those planeteers with info can put some input...

Cheers...

Oh... i'll keep a look out for the speedo... think my mech might have a used one...

Yup its sure difficult to spot any more planets on the road. Mine's a '00 model red colour. I just love the bike... got mine only this April. Handling is very good but im afraid im not yet good enough for it!! Thinking of going down to a track to really ride the wheels off it and learn a thing or 2 abt counter steering and hanging out etc.

The next Planet meet should be at PG if possible... man that should put a huge smile on everyone's face. Since there arent that many of us, I really hope we can make it happen.

So far my experience with Minerva has been very good. Yes they are expensive, both parts and labour, but they really know the bike very well!! They can offer quite personalised n quick service if you get to know the mech well (esp Fat boy... he has been a grt help for me).

well enough talking c***, sorry abt the long earlier post, hehe.

Lets share some real info on the bike..

First im really curious to know which fuel and 2T everyone here uses?

I have tried a lot of fuels and now im sticking with Caltex 98 and Castrol R2. I feel the Caltex petrol is much smoother and more powerful, way better than Shell and Esso and esp good for 2-stoke 125cc pocket rockets which usually vibrate till your hands go numb!!

Next tires; Tire pressure really makes a difference to the handling, should check every 1-2 weeks. Cold pressures: Front 28psi, rear 32psi (+1 with pillion). If you have been riding for 10+ min, add 2psi to both. I use Pirelli Dragons: grip is plenty up front, but there is not that much feel. Rear has lesser grip but a lot more feel to it. Not sure if its due to the suspension set-up (original settings). Are the stock Michelin Pilot Sports better, what do u all think?

Suspension: The forks are setup damn hard, i think. While good for fast speeds, its not that good for feel and sometimes even makes the front end jump around on a bumpy corner. The high-speed compression damping is esp stiff... too bad the MARZOCCHIs are not adjustable. Rear shock is quite good, though on the harder side. It helps if you reduce the preload slightly for single riding and conversely increase it when riding 2 up.

What do you all think, would love to hear your opinions. If you can think of other topics pls voice them here... lets get this thread rolling. Anything that will increase riding pleasure on our beloved Planets is welcome!! :)

Althought not related to planet, but theres no different in using ron92 or ron98 petrol. Both gives off the same amount of energy n theres no such things as my bike more power when i pump V power. The diff is that ron98 petrol r more stable so it can withstand higher compression b4 combusting. Petrol will explode under high compression. Thats y diesel engine have no spark plugs cos diesel explode under lower compression. If ur bike can run smoothly with 92, by all means use it. Using 98 is like $$$ outta the exhaust.

N abt the suspension is very stiff relative to wat? SPs? the duke is even harder IMO. But i always find the planet have very good instrumentations on a 2b bike.

Hope u all enjoy the planet as much as i did ^^

You should use RON92 petrol if you enjoy replacing pistons every 2 months.

In theory, RON92 petrol has the same latent energy as RON98 petrol. That's the THEORY, but premium petrols always feel better in throttle response (especially from idling) than non-premiums, hence the feeling of more power.

Premium petrol in Singapore (usually the 98s and Vpowers) have a significant amount of additives in them. These additives are volatile and rapidly combustible and therefore are more easily vaporized when the fuel exits the carb or throttle body. A term used for this is the "front end" of the fuel.

To test the effects of this front end/additive, buy a bottle of the SPC Octane booster/Super concentrated Gas Treatment ($8.40 from home fix). Don't add the additive yet, but ride your bike normally around your favorite stretch of road. Immediately add the fuel additive (about 100ml per 8L of fuel) and ride the same route again. You would find that the bike is more responsive on the throttle.

However, since this front end is so volatile, it often escapes through the fuel cap and carb vent tubes when the vehicle is parked overnight. Hence, a bike that has just pumped premium petrol will always have a better throttle response that a bike that filled up 3-4 days back.

I personally feel that Esso98 is better for my Planet... but it really depends on how your carb is set up. Different petrols feel better depending on whether your carb is running slightly lean or rich at your favorite RPM.

my mech called to check with minerva... a pair of levers cost $40++...

That's friggin' expensive compared to generic levers... unfortunately generic ones dun fit cos the screws are too small... If anyone has changed to generic ones please give some info on how its done...

As for 2T i'm currently using motul 600... its kinda expensive but was recommended by one of the planet gurus on this forum aka terry... i dunno what gear oil i'm using though cos the previous owner also dunno and i haven't changed it yet...

venka i'm currently using pilot tyres for the front and metzeler for the rear... the rear tyre is kinda worn out already but the grip is still there... esp once its warmed up... i would definitely recommend metzeler though ppl have sworn by bridgestones battlax... i'll be changing my tyres soon (1 months time) and i'll let you guys know the difference...

Any idea if minerva has the double piston rings and air filters?? there hasn't been any in a long while but figured since the raptor 125 is in town there might be some...

Cheers... :thumb:

i dont understand how additives can make the combustion better. The carb had already atomised the petrol n wat can be more combustible? All i know about V-power is that the only additives are cleaning agents thay claim to be more efficient in removing carbon.

For the Octane booster.....its not that our bike have super high compression ratio that race bike use that we need octane number higher then 92. Its not that 92 octane or ron 92 have no additives. U r paying for the higher octane number n more cleaning additives.

If ur bike dont ping(knock) when using 92, i dare to challenge that the piston will not need replacement in 2 years

i tried 92 with my m9 too bad that it ping so i consistenly pump 95.

Wat i read might be wrong i would admit it n be happy if u can provide me the article u read. Esp abt the volatility of higher oct petrol.

Sportsbike Performance Handbook, by Kevin Cameron.

Go and look it up. :thumb:

I think you understanding of fuel atomization is slightly flawed. Let's test and see.

Question:

1) In the morning, when the engine is cold, why do we need to use the choke to ensure a clean start of the engine.

2) Is fuel a homogenous fluid or an emulsion of other fluids?

In my humble opinion, you have latched on the cost savings aspect of fuel choice and have focuesed on that to the exclusion of everything else.

All else being equal, I agree that if your objective was to prevent knocking, there would be no difference between using RON95, RON98 or RON100 if your vehicle could use RON95. But all else is not equal, and we are not discussing knock prevention.

And you have misinterpreted my post entirely, hence your reaction. I quote "Premium petrol in Singapore (usually the 98s and Vpowers) have a significant amount of additives in them. These additives are volatile and rapidly combustible and therefore are more easily vaporized when the fuel exits the carb or throttle body. A term used for this is the "front end" of the fuel.

Emphasis is mine.

Where can i find the info on the additional additives added into 98 to make it more combustible n not in 92? My effort are futile in search of those additives that make combustion more rapidly. N what is it that cos changing pistons 2 monthly?

My planet had nv used the choke and wat does it mean by starting cleanly?

I really cant get how the petrol be more easily vapourise after it had already atomised.

Is the handbook a book u read or can i find it online

Sorry that i am still on my direction n i suppose i am still misinterpreting ur post

Aiyoh Mars...

Your england a bit jialat.... :sian:

wat he is trying to say is that the additives themselves burn rapidly... it does not actually affect the burning of the fuel itself...

using higher octane fuel is like using better quality 2T...

lousy 2T doesn't protect the piston well enuff in the long run, maybe a few years, the piston will get scratches and soon the timing of the engine will be out and your bike will not run smoothly(lost of compression) or idle regularly... :giddy:

So the bottom line is to follow the bike's manual and use the recommended 2T and fuel octane if you really love your bike to protect against wear and tear... you'll enjoy the benefits in the long run...

No offense arh bro :cheeky: ... paiseh... hope it clears your doubts... cheers... :thumb:

Heh, Sportsbike Performance Handbook is a softcover book that used to be available at Borders and Kinokuniya. It's authored by Kevin Cameron, a tech geek and the resident technical editor at Cycle World magazine.

Ok ok, point form mode =)

1) Fuel is composed of many liquids (heptane, octane, additives, detergents etc.)

2) Fuel comes out from carburettor/injector in the form of a mist (droplets, not vapour)

3) The different liquids in the droplets vapourize at different speeds

4) Some additives vapourize faster than heptane/octane

5) Combustible liquids in vapour form burn faster

6) Faster burn = faster throttle response = nice =)

Haha, I see we are having a very interesting discussion here. Let me add a few points...

A lot of things like air density, humidity and temperature affect the power output of the engine. Higher humidity - lower octance req, higher temperature - higher octane req, higher altitude - lower octane req. We have high humidity and temp and low altitude, thus req a higher octance fuel.

Also faster burning of fuel is referred to as flame speed, which measures how efficiently heat energy is converted to mechanical energy, meaning more power!! Higher octane fuels have higher flame speeds, hence better power. Sadly, since the Planets comp ratio is only 7.5:1, it theoretically req only 92 octane fuel. But i'd recommend *atleast* using 95 due to whether conditions here as discussed above.
