Hi Fellows,

This afternoon i had a near miss accident with a taxi, this taxi driver is simply reckless, he swerved from the 3rd lane into the 1st lane jus to pick up passengers. Needless to say about signaling and checking of blind spots, picking up $$$ is more impt than other road commuters.

U have to jam, brake, hornnn..... and do a pylon salon in the middle of the road.

All these energy and effort dun put to the waste. Convert them to paper n pen n write to the authorities and let the authorities check it out for u.

Therefore DO NOT SWALLOW ur pride.

1. write to traffic police, email; [email protected]

2. call up respective taxi companies and give the operators ur input.

Premier Taxis 6363 6888

SMRT Taxis 6555 8888

Silver Cab 6363 6888

Smart Automobile 6485 7700

Trans-Cab Services 6555 3333

3. this link from LTA will show u the flowchart of how they will be dealt with.

I am not trying to break people rice bowl, but if u were hit by a taxi today, u will know by writing feedback for relevant authorities will help, than this thread will not be in vain.

Anyway... no matter whos fault, the one getting hurt will definitely be bikers. So.. ride defensive, cheers :cheer:

qn is, will the driver really be punished? sure they will reply with an offical letter saying they will investigate & do the necassary but there's no proof at all tht it really happen

Mate, it depends on whether how deep u want to pursue the matter. Perhaps its a gd time to see if the authorities are at work?

well, my point is, even if they really r at work, there'll be hardly any evidence tht it did happen (i'm speaking in the case of a near accident). even if they cld get hold of tht guy, how r they gng to charge him if they have no proof of wat happened? its really like ur words against the driver's, u know wat i mean?

Actually for SPF to charge the driver, they need an eye witness. You have to witness in a court of law for this charge to be legal. Normally SPF would advise you to take it to the taxi company instead of going through their path.

Submitting through SPF website will take months before an IO officer calls you to ask you if you wish to pursue this. It is important to take down the time, road, date, or any other vehicles nearby that can be second witness. It's very troublesome.

Taxi companies usually have a ($200?) bonus if there's no complains. This is deducted if taxi drivers recieves a complain. Usually taxi drivers don't give a hoot about this small mediocre bonus anyway.

So both ways to get back at irresponsible drivers are very hard but it doesn't mean we shouldn't try. Because this might help other road users in the future as well.

My friend used to carry marbles with him while riding, quite effective in scaring reckless drivers....

Just to share experience and gain opinions from the fellow forummer.

I had a recent brush with a taxi. A white one, presumably a Mercedes cab, on Sunday morning around 0200++ just outside the Istana aproaching Plaza Singapura (thats a one way 5 lane road).

This taxi cut into my lane (which is the 2nd lane from the right). Accelerate quite fast (understandable, an auto car) and jam brake on noticing a trishaw on the road.

And yours truly was behind it, following it, never notice there was a trishaw right in front of the taxi, jammed brake and skidded on the road and suffered a fall. I only suffered abrasions and luckily with no broken bones or damaged parts on the bike.

I didn't get to notice the taxi's number, neither did anyone around. So could I bring this up to the authority. And from reading the post fellars, judge me in this situation.

And hope they get their what they gave others.

Live long, die prosper ~

Well since you don't have the licence plate theres pretty much nothing that you can do......

Even if you were to pursue the matter they'll be sure to ask y were you following so close behind to have to brake hard. Either way you'll still be on the losing end if you kissed his backside unless you have witnesses

Frankly speaking, it was mostly your fault, man. You should've decrease speed as soon he broke into your lane, because he immediately limited your line of sight. If he had enough time to accelerate, then I cannot blame him. Only if he moved into your lane and then hit the brake, then I would say it is his fault.

Just yesterday I had to do an e-brake before a taxi cutting through 2 lanes. It was on ECP towards east right after Rochor. I did brake alright, but later I realized that I should've been more careful, particularly in this place, where many cars are joining and there's allways somebody trying to change lane suddenly and move to a free space before somebody else does it. I was just too busy lane-splitting and a bit too over-confident.

Get well, man. Come back and practice e-brake every day on some empty road. The most useful skill.
