Anyone pls tell me the differences between tubeless and tube tires? Thanks

Tubed tyres have an inner tube fitted in them. The tyre valve, which is moulded onto the tube sticks through the rim when fitted. Inflating the tube within the tyre will inflates the tyre.

Disadvantages of tube tyres....

1. Alot of friction created due to rubbing between the tube and tyres resulting in heat. Thats why they like to put powder on the tubes to reduce the friction and also protect the tube from the elements.

2. Because the tube is attached to the rim only by the charging valve, it can be easily ripped at the valve when the tyre moves (tyre creep) about the rims especially under hard acceleration or braking, more so if there is sticking between the tube and the tyre (another reason for the powder).

3. An inflated tube is like a balloon. And like virginity, all it takes is one prick and its gone. A tubed tyre deflates instantly when punctured by a foreign object eg nails, etc. Instant deflation at high speeds results in bike being uncontrollable.

4. When punctured, tyres must be removed to do a patch repair on the tube.

Tubeless tyres are fitted mostly on alloy rims. The tyre valve is screwed onto the rim. Tubeless tyres have very soft bead areas (the circumferential area that actually sits on the rim). The close contact of the bead areas form an airtight seal so when the tyre is inflated, it is the tyre that acts like a balloon.

Advantage of tubeless tyres...

1. No sudden deflation when pierced by nails or similar objects. As long as the object is not removed, the air within the tyre will not leak out fast. There will be minor leaks coming from the side of the object that is stuck on the tyre but it will be extremely small leaving the bike still rideable to the nearest repair shop.

2. Tyre pressure loss due to tyre creep is minimal as the bead forms a constant tight seal on the rim. Its not easy to remove a tubeless tyre from the rim, need to use a pnuematically driven bead breaker found in tyre shops. Tyre creep affects the high performance bikes where alot of torque is generated during acceleration and deceleration.

3. No massive heat buildup due to rubbing friction within the tyres.

4. Repair of tubeless tyres can be done using inserts without the need to dismount the tyre from the rims nor deflating it.

Note: Insert repairs are only temporary. For those who want to play on the tracks, it is wiser to dismount the tyre and do a permanent heat patch repair from the inside. Most car tyre shops do this.

Unless specified, one should never install a tubeless tyre on a rim that was not designed for it. But in an emergency, whereby the hole is too big for insert repair, a tube could be fitted into a tubeless tyre.

Think I have said enough coz I am gettin bored with my own post.

IMO, it's down the the rider lah. I've tried Bridgestone BT-020 on my vtec1, can corner until footrest scrape. Just make sure the road is clean n dry, no sand/oil patch/obstacle in the middle.

MAYBE.. Just maybe... any tyre from a reputable brand, e.g. Metzeler, bridgestone, Pirelli, Dunlop, etc are good enough for you to scrape footrest, when conditions are dry.

I don't know of any tyre that can grip the road well in the wet.

Now I'm using Metzeler Sportec M-1.

btw. bro. ask him. metzeller. for sp. what is the best for cornering . price put aside first. what is the best tyres for sp. thanks.

On her KR150, Bridgestone BT39SS on the front and Dunlop GPR70 on the rear.

And the rest is really up to guts and skill level.

BTW - please don't be an idiot, do all the cornering you want on the tracks. A public road is definitely not the place to try it.

small bikes go to track not paisey meh?

haha. though our bikes still can go above 150.

but u need a race suit rite?

Mmm... small bikes? If I'm not wrong, a 250cc SP can be faster than a 400cc S4!

So all the 41 riders who just took part in the 125cc MotoGP race at Jerez must be the most thick skinned lot. :faint:

Worst still, they did it on TV and it was telecasted 'live' world wide and seen by millions of people.

It is really sad that you think small bikes should only play corners on the public roads and not on the tracks where such acts belong. You need to change your mindset.

Just some sincere friendly advice, so please don't get upset with me.

Dunlop TT900 GD :thumb: but wear out faster.

but for god sake get wider profile tyres. unless u r tht much into street drag races rather than commuting. As thts wat suits our climate n road conditions as we tend to have alot of lane markings n metal lids on the road which becomes slippery when it rains.
