New Google Nexus One phone available to S'poreans

Smartphone fans eager to get their hands on Google's new Nexus One phone will not have to wait the customary several months before local telcos and distributors bring the device into the local market.

 

In a press statement released by Google today, the Internet giant announced that Singaporeans can order the Google Nexus One phone from its online order site (google.com/phone). The devices will be shipped to customers via courier DHL.

 

The Google Nexus One goes for US$577.31, which is inclusive of the smartphone device, power adapter and shipping costs.

 

Google launched its new "superphone" yesterday, in direct competition with Apple's best-selling smartphone device, the iPhone.

 

Thin and light, the Nexus One weighs no more than a keychain Swiss Army knife and is about as thick as a pencil.

 

The phone features new speak command capabilities that allow users to speak emails instead of typing them, for example.

 

Other functions include turn-by-turn spoken driving instructions from Google's mapping program.

 

Nexus One smartphones run on the Android 2.1 software developed by Google.

I was trying it out for fun earlier and discovered the same thing! They don't accept Singapore credit cards (billing address country selection dun have Singapore)! LOL!

 

But if you check the "shipping address different from billing address", then you can see that they indeed CAN ship to Singapore...

Google phone clarifies connectivity issue in S'pore

Responding to the media reports, Google apologises for connectivity issues with the Nexus One and provides Nexus One owners in Singapore with the solution.

 

For Starhub and M1 customers, they will need to enter in their APN settings to connect to their 3G network. This can be done by any user in less than a minute:

 

1. Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.

 

2. Hit Menu button, create new APN.

 

3. Enter new APN settings. See below for the details.

 

4. Hit Menu button, save settings.

 

5. Select the new APN name, then hit the home button. Your 3G connection will shortly appear in the top bar.

 

For Starhub customers:

 

* Name: Starhub Internet

* APN: shwapint

* Username: [leave blank]

* Password: [leave blank]

 

For M1 customers:

 

* Name: M1 Internet

* APN: sunsurf

* Username: 65

* Password: user123

 

For SingTel customers, the Nexus One should auto-connect to their 3G network.

 

However is this is not so for for SingTel customers, please use these details:

 

* Name: SingTel Internet

* APN: internet

* Username: 65IDEAS (or blank)

* Password: IDEAS (or blank)

 

If customers have further enquiries, they can look for support at http://www.google.com/phone which includes how-to videos, feature overviews, ordering/payment/set-up/warranty info, a user's guide and help forum.

 

If users can't find the answers they need, they can call the HTC Support line in Singapore at 1-800-238-7788 from 8am-8pm, Monday to Saturday.

 

HTC is providing local support and repair services for Nexus One.

wonder if it will be better than the iphone in terms of functionality and surfing speed.

 

camera resolution is better for sure and has a removable battery....tat's heaps better than the iphone.

 

iphone has lots of downable applications but there are tons of widgets on google and wonder if it will be available for nexus one....lots of questions in mind.....

 

tempted to get one as well...read that acer liquid is something to watch out for as well.

hmm interesting....Nexus one is build by HTC as well

 

Apple's going to launch their newer phone in June and apparently the speed will be faster than Nexus running at 1 Giga while iphone is now doing at 06 of that. wah...so many smart phones coming out....so much temptation but so limited $$$$$

The quest for the latest and greatest gadgets will never end. Just get one that you feel that is most suitable for your usage pattern and within your budget.

If you jailbreak the iPhone and multi-task, it will lag too.

 

Its not difficult to shutdown apps after using. On the other hand, its a major PITA to customise the iPhone!

 

Its either the Apple way or not at all.

Have been using HTC Hero since I couldn't buy Iphone due to M1 line a few months back. I would say I got no regret. It support mulit task, alot of applications in the market, same capacitive screen, multiple customisable homescreen etc. The only complain I would have is sluggish at time due to multiple task running in background and lack of inbuilt mass storage.

 

I think with the much better spec in Nexus one, it will solved the sluggish performance. However it still doesn't comes with the built in mass storage option. But anyway I also have not used up the 2GB micro Sd card yet.

 

All I can say, I am very satisfied with Android OS. HTC should be releasing a Nexus One alternative called HTC Bravo. Maybe it will be officially launch in SG market soon.

Got my Nexus One last monday. All I can say is its the best phone i've used, miles ahead of the Hero and 3GS
