Frequently letting the hamsters mate is not a wise thing. The female will lose a lot of calcium if it is not given any calcium supplements.

Intra breeding = incest, produces unhealthy babies in the long run. Few generations down the road the hamsters may produce genetically defective babies. It is quite cruel to see the babies suffer from that.

I used to have a syrian baby that has birth defects, it was extremely weak, hind leg deformed, and blind in one eye. It is really sad to see such baby.

As it was unable to fight for milk, we have to feed it formula milk for puppies using small syringe.

Although the baby managed to survive (very strong willed to live), he lasted for only about a year and a half before it passed away.

I would not encourage anyone to buy, it only encourages owner's to unethically breed them. Please respect their life.

thanks for tt comment. but i do not purposely let them mate and then sell the baby hamsters. reason for selling is ,my friend(the owner) have no more cages and placing them in container is not a proper environment as it is stuffy. hamsters r active and they nid space, placing them in container is v cruel, just like rearing gold fish in a bowl. selling hamster is the last resort and we only sell to ppl who have cages. so ya, my friend is a hamster lover too. rest assure that the baby hamsters r healthy and could live long under proper care. =)

Not that I am purposely finding fault, but I feel that as a responsible pet owner your friend should put them up for adoption for free. Rather than selling for money.

Finding a responsible caretaker for the hamsters is the main issue here.

Also as the hamsters are matured enough to mate, it is quite possible to identify the males and females. So it is best to separate them to prevent future incidents.

i think you can google it. there are always ppl giving up hamsters for adoption..

my hamsters many years back give birth quite alot and quite often.. such that within 1 or 2 years, i have 48 hamsters in 3 large cages..

they all go along well, come out and back into cages themselves but it's not easy to take care of so many..
