Hi,

If you have female dwarf hamsters it will only attack you if it is pregnant. If it is not then you have to make sure your hands are clean before handle your hamsters. Strange smells can frighten some rodents, and other smells might convince them that you are something good to eat.

 

When you first begin to tame animals, just put your hand in the cage and let them approach you. Good Luck.

Yup...totally agree...but some are fine even when pregnant...

For those who are not able to tame their hamsters, try not to pick them up by the base of their tails. It’s best to scoop them up by their underside, supporting their feet.

Careful though by doing so, cos u dun want your fingers gone missing.

Not all animals u can tame by tat way.

If u ppl are toking abt hamsters or mice ah, dun tink they can bite ur whole finger lah. Mayb jux one small bite only lah...no fear man...!!

I am already gentle and summore they so small....sian sian sian. wonder how u all tackle this problem.

like they all have said, ur hand must have hamster frenly smell (not food smell!)

cos they use smell as some sort of ID tag.

 

even better if ur hand can have the same smell consistently cos

they will relate to it more & trust ur hand.

like for me, if i put my hand down my hammie will naturally hop

on it one. must saya saya a bit evyday la...

 

also its best if u get the hamster when they are younger becos

if they've been terrorise by someone else's terror hands.

veri difficult for them to trust another hand.

that explains the running away and biting i guess.

 

trust is veri important! i have no problem even wif a pregnant female.

she knows & trust my hand.

got to tell you guys sumthing...

my hammies always fight nowadays..i dont know why!!!

 

i have two hammies;a white fat male and a dark grey thin female...

last time grey liked to fight with white and white never fought back,always running away and hid itself.

 

but recently...

 

its the other way round,now,white fights with grey and grey will squeak everynow and then.everytime it (grey) tries to runaway,white catches up and starts clawing at it and each fight lasts about 30secs to 2mins.

 

grey then will play dead and just lay bottom up for 2-3mins and wont fight back,but no bleeding laa.

 

anyone knows why like that????

becuz the male hammie always 'fite' wit the female hammie until the female hammie play dead bottom up like tortoise...

if you say they in mate season..then i just leave them laa...since so far they 'fite' oso no bleeding anywhere.

TW200Girl---Wat I tink is that u can keep lah.1 labour of hamsters will be enuff liao.But then u will need at least 2 cages or containers for them liao. 1 for male, the other for female.For me is like that lah, then all wont feel lonely then u also wont have much prob...if not...they will jux keep breeding...really...no joke.Then u cant find anyone to give away liao, cox all ur frends who wants have hamsters given by u already.

I got two roborovski's.....boy+gerl.....but ah....very good one...nvr breed....ask shop then they say robo very hard to breed one.....their sexual drive very low one....very very good friendship...and also very2 fast.....

 

Got one Campbell female white,last time got two female....then one die cause kena bulli by the other one.....

 

Got one more virgin female....very skinny,very long....dunno what species...looks like dominat spot.....but also got look like Winter white....dunnolah....this one also die already....no boy mah,so feel too horny cannot take it then die lor...

 

All i left is three only......

 

2 robo and 1 campbell....Chimok(male),Chicik(female)&Citam(female)..in order...

Hmm...funny hor...u feed and feed ah...then still so small.For me lah,for me only ah...I feel like my hamsters never grow like that...waste all my food and effort...hee.

 

So I only rear those chinese hamsters...those normal kinds...where they can grow big and chubby!!

you see ah the male hammie always attack the female hammie...then SUDDENLY both of the male hammie's front legs started to bleed and the skin like tear...

 

 

at the sight of blood...

 

anyway,i have split them into different cages why cant they live peacefully ah...haiz...

 

i have bought an antiseptic for the injured hammie,i dunt know whether the injury was caused by the female hammie or by its own fault laa...maybe too much usage of the front legs to attack the female hammie.

if got blood it means its not just teasing. guess its just compatibility thingy.

and i dun think its due to overuse or misuse of paws. i mean,

i wun hurt myself right? it sounds silly & anti-life.

 

i think it really hurts lo for the hammie. one time i tried to introduce the father

to his mth old offspings (hoping they'll recognise each other) but the son ended

with bleeding front & back paws. then he just lie on his back licking his

trembling, bloody & inflated paws. he's limping to get to his food!

beri poor thing eh....*sad..sad*

 

forgot to mention mine is siblings case. its like incest in human's term

but in animal kingdom its ok as long as its within certain generation levels.

otherwise u'll see physical mutations in the offsprings.

so they kinda like accepted each other liao. when its time, just make babies lo.
