I would look at Mileage, for example heaven’s bike is 9years old mileage only 77777k. That’s a good deal. So less wear and tear which is standard no matter how good the bike is. So less to spend on parts replacement.

Accident history, because you don’t want to buy a bike that has a bent alignment…that the naked eye cannot see..

Accessories are bonuses….alot of time and money went into customizing our tdms so you factor that into the price..

Never buy from shop, overpriced.

Overall tdm is an excellent bike, I rode up north to test with Honda, Kawa, Vstrom. All had problems except mine… Screws never fall out, suspension never come out with some squeaky noise etc etc.

Tdm petrol consumption also one of the best. Most of us getting on average 20km/L….some lucky ones getting 22-24km/L.

Tdm some love some don’t love…dunno why, but I like the rumble the parallel twin makes..its got excellent low mid end torque….power when you need it..when need to overtake or when kanna tailgate.

Its also excellent for pillion. Usually the ladies I pillion all comment it’s one of the most comfortable ride. Just sit back enjoy. I see some pillion on sports bike, their legs bent until like chicken wing…I feel so jialat for them, you how uncomfortable it is for them?? Ai yo…. But tdm no problem.

Bad points, All Yamaha models from year 2002-2005 have a problem with their TPS, throttle position sensor, I wont explain just go to youtube and see what I mean. So some money must be spent just cleaning it up or replacing it. not much less than $200.

Stock Suspension spring also too soft, so most will change to Ohlins spring or an idiot like me, go and change the entire suspension to Bitubo.

Other than this two main issues. No other points I can complain about, tdm is excellent.

Oh wait some may not like the design…so first thing they change is the stock windscreen, make it higher better wind protection. More samurai warrior looking.

All the best in your search.

Thanks for the complimentary !

Don't like that lah, I rode more than all previous owner ok !!!

For this 1.5 yrs of owner ship I rode around 23k... Its almost half of the bike mileage already...

From my limited memory, Alvin's previous bike was around 44k...

Another rider, I met was around 17k, he ride only for touring, kept inside his garage all the time... Envy...

All well said for a rider who jump from class 2B, straight to class 2...

As for the suspension, change the spring will improve the feel and handling... Not like the OEM, ah peh feel... Bouncing up and down...

Wear and Tear.... Yes I do agree that this definitely is one key area to look out for. And generally it is reasonable to assume that a bike with higher mileage will have more wear than one with a lower one. Nonetheless, on the flip side, it might also be good to know that the bike u are purchasing had been used regularly by the owner and all faults if any had been noted and rectified. Worse will be owner also duno whats wrong with the bike cos he dont ride it (often enough to notice) and the bike breaks down once u take over and go for a tour on the assumption that there's no wear & tear and hence no need to repair.

There is a HUGE difference between well-maintained bike, and one which purportedly might have less wear and tear based on mileage. One owner can ride smooth and steady (like i always do :p) for 100km everyday and adds on the number on the odo, vis-a-vis another who rides around 20km only on weekdays for kopi but ram the bike and redline every gear change. Of course these illustration are ficticious and pretty much abit dramatic (like taiwanese shows). But I think we all need to be very careful and find out more on the history of the bike before committing.

For me, the other factors I consider are also accessories, and overall condition. I am quite lazy and time is a luxury item so it will be great if the seller already done up the bike with most if not all 'necessary' accessories. While the more critical consideration is the engine, for me outlook also plays a part since I very vain and want a blink blink bike. Hahaha...

Saw a fully accessorized F800GS for sale..... i wet liao.... Anyone wan my TDM900?? :)

I can ride my TDM for super high mileage also no problem. Like what Victor said, is look or hate bike. If you hate it, you don't know what u are missing.

Buy buy buy. I'll laugh at ur "Bring More worry" when it "Burn my wallet"....

Manufacturer: BMW of North America

Model Year: 2008

Models affected: F800 GS

NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V088000

Problem: BMW is recalling model year 2008 F800 GS motorcycles. The axle shaft wall thickness may not have been manufactured according to specifications. If the wall thickness was not sufficient, the axle shaft could deform and could break increasing the risk of a crash.

Corrective Action: Dealers will inspect the axle shaft assembly and replace or repair the necessary components free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided an owner notification schedule. Owners may contact BMW at 1-800-831-1117.

http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/121289-BMW-F800GS-clutch-failure

i Guys

Thought this may be of interest. Spent 4 days exploring trails and ranges around Queenstown had a great time with riding mate Ron. But coincidentally clutch started slipping after a river crossing on the way into Macetown. Eventually terminated by zip ties to stabilise the clutch cable then early routing to Christchurch Jeff Gray BMW who opened the case to find very little left of the plates. The bike only 5 weeks old has done less than 3000K's. Riding was nothing unusal for offroad and certainly not gnarley trails. So left bike to be repaired with bits to come from Germany 2 wks plus? and flew home while mate headed off on his lonesome bike to ferry and New Plymouth.

This may be of interest? Great support from Jeff Gray but no replacement bike to finish my trip.

http://f800riders.org/forum/showthread.php/32008-Rear-wheel-bearings-failure

REAR AXIL BEARINGS ARE FAILING.I have seen some threads on the f800s/st side but very little information on the gs side.

I have read a lot about the rear bearing issue on the ADVrider site and I'm concerned the information is not getting out. VERY VERY important to check those rear bearings. I change my own tires so I was doing it anyway. If someone else is changing your tires please have them CHECK the bearings for any sign af failure. Lost hubs maybe even lost lives are at stake here.

btw, at 5100 miles my rear bearing on the rotor side his rough. Taking the bike to the dealer, Woodys wheel shop in Denver recommended on the ADVrider site to get the dealers involved. maybe a design problem with the rear axil.

If anyone else has seen problems let us know. I post what happens at the dealer.ride safe

Keep in store? What a waste!!

Can use the barends as paper weight, and the handlebar as hammer. Clamps maybe can try see whether can use to crack chilli crabs or not. :p

Welcome to the club dude.... I'm quite sure u'll be pleasantly surprised that the TDM offers a very different (& good) feel. Another TDM rider @reptiletan also migrated from Fazer although we have another 2 who switched to Fazer. Haha!!

Get ur friend to join us too! We just had a little gathering last Friday and perhaps will be organising a short ride up after CNY. Hope to see u both!

Yes yes, i am actually very excited to ride a parallel twin. It'll be a whole different experience altogether, hope i can do bro Ansmania's TDM proud eh. :thumb:

I know reptiletan, he used to ride a naked FZ1 too. We shall meet up soon, let me know if there are anymore gatherings or trips across the border :)

yep yep... only one TDM i found in sg with OEM bellypan...

No problem! I'll call him along for the next gathering, looking forward to meeting more TDM riders :D

It's not how fast you ride, but how well you ride.

Hahaha.... This is my 1st touring bike. And the last time I own any bike was 11yrs ago so can't really say comparing to other bikes of TDM is better. But one thing for sure is that I'm enjoying the TDM every time I ride it and look forward to any opportunity that I can ride. As said, if I ever change bikes, it's purely a case of itchy backside syndrome hitting me.
