hi cas,

regarding the givi maxia, i used it during my trip to phuket last year and i would say the handling wasn't affected much if you cruise at 140-160kmh but might feel a bit light on the handle if you try to push your bike all the way to the redzone. currently my maxia box together with the monokey rack have retired to my store room cos i had got myself a set of hepco and becker panniers and top box. would say maxia is a good buy for its storage capacity.

as for the windshield, i was recommended Eagle screen from australia in the carpe-tdm forum and i got it online. their service is nice and swift and i got my shield custom made to the height i wanted. good finishing on the wing shield. maybe u can visit the website and drop them a mail.

cheers

kelvin

yo tdmrider,

how tall is your windshield?

find that mine a bit too short. and the cost please...

me also using eagle screen

what's the purple colour stands for?

Purple is the colour of royalty. A combination of blue and red is a powerful colour as it imbibes the qualities of these colors – authority and imagination. The purple in you implies that you are intuitive, have high aspirations and your emotions run deep.

Interestingly, violet and purple, though shades of the same family indicate different personalities. Those inclined towards violet have a sensitive, compassionate nature but can be vulnerable too and get hurt easily. While those who love purple can be highly energetic, imaginative but can be arrogant.

Sexually purple indicates passionate love. It also indicates the love for beautiful people and things, rich taste and luxury.

apogez>> my windscreen is +180mm,after trying a few different height, i guess the height is just rite for me. i got mine online for about A$140.

casio>> for the maxia box, i had tried both the method u mentioned. monokey rack is very stable but ugly, with only the plastic base plate, it looks neat but quite fragile. as for the hepco box, the model i got is the 'junior' series.

welcome casio:cheer:

i hit 222km/h at red line (8K) but some TDMs said theirs' hit only 200km/h at red:confused: maybe mech or digit erros?

as for the wind shield i got the $320(?dont remember liao) yamaha's tallest production for TDM ~300mm taller??? if got time i go measure it manually:cheeky: others TDMs here care to share yours with casio?

have u join the TDM group at yahoo?

My humble small 850cc TDM can hit 200km/hr at 7k rpm (redline is 8k) with a 5 speed gearbox, H&B side panniers, tall screen and 1up. I'm pretty sure the 6 speed EFI TDM900 can do much better than that with or w/o panniers. I have not tried high speed cruising with topbox yet. Eagle screens are very well made in fact, edges are super smooth unlike other aftermarket screens, I'm using a +180mm currently. Spent ard S$170 inclusive of shipping and exchange rate using visa. They can customise any height you want, like goldwing big big oso can. Compared to my Ermax +100, quality would be on par. But l prefer the eagle becoz of its colour and bigger size that makes my TDM look more fierce, wind protection wise is marginally better than the ermax. Psychologically better coz its the second screen!!! hahaha

yo tdmrider,

custom made to +180mm, hmmm.... that what i have in mind. Currently using eagle but with +150mm. What worry me is that when using a taller screen, with all the 6 screws concentrating at the lion head, the holding power is not there at the top of the screen.

Looking at mine, with the vibration going on, kind of worry that the screen may just break off due to fatigue or travelling at high speed.

Maybe have to take a look at yours before deciding on my next course of upgrading

Solo,

I've asked Dave from the Eagles for a quote. This is what he had replied.

For the benefit of all those who are interested.

"Hello Dexter, we supply screens for this model, our standard oversize

version is plus 90mm and we have made special oversize screens to suit

rider requests, price in dark tint and including delivery to Singapore is

A$120,

Regards Dave, EAGLE SCREENS"

Is this the same you guys had paid? the same shield?

that's fast... stock screen is approx 30cm length. would you mind posing a few questions to him?

1 - what is the full length of screen? (to take the guesswork out)

2 - any price difference for different tints/colours? (i would like the clear screen)

3 - is it cheaper to consolidate a few orders and ship to one address rather than individually? (if not, we can proceed independently)

4 - advisable to for screen to be 20cm from the last screw? stronger plastics?

apogez - care to describe the experience (at different speeds) of that +150mm screen you are using? need your advise and/or base on your experience to determine what length would be sufficient to deflect the bugs while cruising at 150kmh. buffeting at higher speeds is acceptable to me.

Yo solo,

actually the +150mm screen is ok for high speed (>170km/h), provided i have to tilt my head down a bit. Will feel tired in the long distance.

Thus was wishing that the screen could just extend abit longer.

For deflecting of bugs, believe that when you sit normally, the top of the screen should just reach your chin or eyes... made it your nose then. This way the air would get deflected up and over your helmet.

Mine just reach around my chin.

As you know that our screen is secure by 6 screws, all on the lion head, therefore a taller screen may experienced unwanted stress in high speed. How true is this i not so sure... but in the law of mechanics/materials/etc/etc.... :cheeky:

The measurement is always taken with respect to the original screen. +150mm means 150mm TALLER than the original screen. Thats the SOP convention most screen makers use.

I also paid AU$120 (Ard S$170) for my +180 (custom size) its slightly higher than the mirrors.

There is bound to be some flexing due to air resistance hitting the large screen. (Sail-like) I do experience the same vibration apogez is having. But I do feel safe behind those 6 plastic screws. The screen is unlikely to break, more probably the screws, I broke a few while changing screens. You can use metal/alloy screws to secure it if you feel uneasy abt those plastic screws. Adding a rubber washer before you screw can help damp the vibrations (Tip from the diversion riders who use the ultra flipup screen).

thanks. meeting at 2030hrs.

apogez - thanks. think i'll settle for +135mm. :p

yo solo,

i would recommend to go as high as possible. With a +135mm, don't say what bug buster, should say bug splatter in your face liao

Anyway too high also not use. once it over your eye level, think have to install a wiper.

This i may be able to help. Like to tinker with others bike :cheeky:

Apogez san,

liddat ar... i scared too high wait very wobbly leh. sometime will look through the screen. even thinking of putting metal bracket to reinforce the screen and change the attack angle to generate greater downforce to stabilize the front.... or how abt height and angle adjustable screen? :giddy: just kidding. will need to take a look at yours before deciding. ;-)

you like to tinker with OTHERS bike huh... wanna replace the small bulbs to leds and add socket for external 12v cig lighter? i'll be your guinea pig :p going to do my shopping at slt next week. interested?

Eh Solo and everyone..

Gotten a reply based on the questions given by Solo. See below

Hello Dexter, I have attached a sketch of your screen which is a Y-72e (not Y-71e my mistake), it gives you the dimensions of our regular oversize screen and we have made screens which are up to 170mm taller than standard - these are not a pretty sight but if the customer requests them we try to oblige, the prices do not change.

Now for the rest of your questions, screen prices vary from model to model but using the TDM900 as a guide, the clear, light tint and dark tint are all the same price, red/blue/solid black are $10 dearer, amber and yellow are $15 dearer.

yes it is cheaper to consolidate your orders, the savings come with delivery costs and we discount $5 per screen on multiple orders.

we use the best available plastics which are UV treated and impact resistant, if the screen is correctly manufactured there should not be any problems with extending 20cm from last screw.
