hi fi_east, is the knocking sound the same no matter what speed you riding or does the knocking become faster as you ride faster? my ver S had a knocking sound also, when i brought to mech i was told that it was my timing chain or i need to do valve clearance but i went to another mech who said it was not my timing chain but my front sprocket, i asked him how to tell the difference he told me if timing chain the knocking or ticking sound will be constant even if the bike is idle and the sound will be constant no matter your speed. and valve clearance has nothing to do with the knocking sound basically if your bike has problems starting, no power, and idle sounds like the bum boat going to ubin then you need to do your valve clearance but if the sound changes faster when you ride faster then could be one of the following, sprocket (front or rear) chain loose, Rim bearing worn,

since you just changed your bearing i will guess its you sprocket and chain.

hi, thanks for ur advice, i did change my sprocket n chain just now as suggested by the mech, but it seems that this ticking sound wont go away, it like when i am in 1st gear when i half clutch ready to move, the sound will appear, it seems to be coming from the front sprocket area.. any idea where the timing chain is located at on the bike n how much it cost?.. cos i had tis feeling that it might be the timing chain.. thanks

Alo S4 riders,

can some1 tell me where to get S4 speedometer and how much it cost? Don't want the digital ones just the normal ones...Thanks in advance

hey greenruby, if remember correctly that was told by ah pek, original speedometer cost around $300 to $400/- and for vtec speedometer is around $500/-. Lab is selling at $180/- however made in china, not that accurate.. if want second hand, can try looking at scrapyard.:)

I'm looking for speedometer, but check wif a bike shop uncle ordering from scrapyard. That people seldom scrap super4 now so would quite hard 2 find from there.

A'noon gentlemen,

I'm in the process of changing my coolant hoses myself. Thing is, I'm having trouble trying to get the carbs out. Loosened all the screws and what not. But the $#@! thing wont come out.

Any kind soul has any idea on how to take it out?

Cheers!

The whole meter set rpm and speedo cost 400-500plus.

If only speedo its cheaper. Because in the whole set the rpm side is the more expensive one.

LAB one I won't recommend because both the meters comes with circuit boards.

If this circuit board are not made well they could cause probs.

I recommend u give Chong Aik a call ask then.

Hey guys, quick question.

How is your fuel economy? I am having problems with mine, I have had a leak that hasnt seem to have gone away, Ive had the tank welded, but seem to need it again. If my tank isnt leaking that means I am performing horribly with 13.4 KM/L. It seems as if my tank only holds 15 L. How big would the reserve be? If the numbers I find on the net are right, the fuel economy should be at about 34 KM/L which means, if you have a 18 L tank you are going 612 KM before having to refuel. Even if you were to have a 15 L tank youd go 510KM. I am going 200 KM. What do you think? Probably the leak still? I see no puddles and smell no gas.

A totally empty tank will be filled up with 18L including 3L reserve. Super 4 has good fuel consumption but I don't think it's as good as 34km/l

Generally on expressway cruising you get anywhere between 18-25km/L

On normal stop and go riding you might get lesser. I doubt your petrol is leaking unless you can see stains on the floor or smell it.

Fuel consumption differs according to your riding style.

13.4 KM/L, that's like a normal 1.3 sedan car FC / class 2 bike if you whack very often. very jialat sia.

there's a 2nd hand fuel tank (PB1) under the advertiser board. can try to ask them if it's suitable for your super4 variant.

since Ive posted, Ive read a few posts and now realize that I should aim for about 20 Km/L So ok thats fine, And now i realize how big my actual tank is, so thank you once again. I will check my riding style, but I dont think that is why I am doing so badly, I just put a whole tank in so I will try again, and see how far I can go. I did ride about 120 km on the highway and then pulled about 80 in town so maybe thats why the fuel consumption is off. Regardless I am just a little paranoid that the leak is there because of the leak previous.

13.4km/L seems to be quite bad fc. If the tank is really leaking, you should consider getting another one.

But 34km/L i dont believe its possible. Around 20-22km/L is the average.

Anywas ppl, does anyone use a small jack to help with the chain lubrication, cleaning of wheels etc. How much does one cost?

I use a small jack which I place where the exhaust system becomes a 'two'. Usually do this to lube my chain and occassionally check whether the wheel bearings are still ok. Not sure about the cost, but should not be expensive.

cant be chain bro as i just changed my bearing last week, during changing surely after that they tighten chain also together... in lower gear ard 1,2 or 3 got the knock2 sound, higher gear than sound gone... will try go bike shop after this and c what wrong with it, thank guys...

Heh fi_east...dstapp could be right. Your front sproket may have gone back. Why did you change back wheel bearings without checking if they are bad first?..its a waste of $s just by "thinking so".

Oso...do check your swingarm protection rubber..its a rubber 'damper' flat strip sitting on the swingarm near the from sproket area.

You have to take off the air box assembly first and the battery comparment area. Lots of work and sweat. Careful when you have to dislodge the carbs..especially the coupling rubbers both fron and back. This is oso an opporunity for you to replace the fuel hose.:sian:

Wow!..ok..I can only suspect from your description that it could be a clutch spring or clutch housing problem. Definitely could not be the timing chain as in idling mode, you do not hear the sound. No harm going to Ah Fook to have a free opinion.

Just note that the speedometer itself with the counter etc...is a unit by itself and can cost about $300+. Secondhand original unit can get about half price...u want I got. The RPM meter itself is another whole unit by itself. The white housing with a circuit board is oso another unit. In ur case, you need only the speedo module.

Ahpek,

My bike sometime i hear a click click sound. I suspect coming from the plugs. Its like the plug is firing but when I hear the click sound the engine rpm drop very slightly (Noticable by the sound) then picks up again.

Its very random, sometimes in a period of 5 secs got a few clicks, sometimes got 1 sometimes none.

My plug are new just changed abt 2 months back. Or is that normal. The sound can only be heard if u put ur ear quite close to the engine.

Ur calculation is all wrong..probably you read wrongly. Full tank can give you (talking average only on most S4) is about 320km to 380km before hitting reserve..give and take on decent riding habit and style...that on a per litre count is about 19km/L to 24km/L before hitting reserve. Reserve itself gives you about 60km for 3 litres.

As for your leak..do consider looking at DIY shop taht has steel mixture epoxy that once harden is as good as a "weld". These stuff are oso heat and chemical resistance...cost less than $10.

If your tank is rusting in too many places internally badly and considering getting a secondhand unit..I can help out with one but ist a Ver S model.

Your FC may be caused by the carbs front rubber couplings (the 4 piece that links the carbs to your engine block intakes).
