Appreciate any advice here : my 16 yr old ver S has no issue hitting 140 km/h...but thereafter at 6th gear, this workhorse started to 'hesitate' and it was huffing and puffing to make it to 150. Tried playing with my throttle (open throttle then slightly close it and then open again) but it has little effect to increase the speed further. To describe my riding after 140 is like riding a baby camel whose rein was being pulled & then released. Any area of focus/ troubleshooting to do, as in clutch / engine / carb / plug / etc issues?

Try grounding for electrical load improvement and a good eo to go with it. Hope ur back sprocket is not oversize as in 45 or 46 tooth and so is ur tyre size.

is it normal, when cold start... i blip the throttle a little in the 1k-2k range, the bike feel like its choking (slight rpm hang) and want to stall?

if i blip it to higher rpms... then no issues... any idea which part is worn?

Try not to blip/rev your bike hard when the bike is cold.

Let it warm up & oil circulate by itself before revving it

NEVER NEVER blip..u want..throttle up. No eo is going up ur cyclinder wall and ur piston's rings are scrapping it.

Which version of S4 are u riding and what model of battery are u using? If it's a Vtec and u are using "BS9" battery..it's likely because the battery won't last more than a year sometimes as the current rating is low.

When the fan is on..means that the coolant temperature has reach roughly 102 degrees Celsius and the temperature would ground (power supply to on ur fan) ur fan via the radiator fan switch (the protruding item on the lower left of the radiator). This is TRUE ONLY if your radiator fan switch is Honda Original which only has a single connector to it..if it's white or have two connectors..its for car use and temperature cut on for fan is different like 85-95 degrees Celsius. Ur description of the meter temp light is typical of a chiong meter...nothing much u can do.

my lights only on once in my 9 months of riding but my fan does turn on almost everyday

My PB1 17+ yrs liao..what valve clearance? Why must he do it at 70k?

what exactly is valve clearance n what effect does it have?

LAB, Chong Aik, Everfix..FJT.

what is full name of FJT?

B]Help on mysterious missing coolant prob?[/b]

I've been noticing my Ver S is running real hot btw my legs ever since i got this bike. Did a check and the reservoir (right side of the bike) is empty. Did a refill with distilled water and within 7 days it dried up. This is my observation :

- No sign of coolant leaks from the hoses / Engine fins or stains(coolant) from the floor.

- Cap looks good (no crack and rubber not hard)

- Fan working as it should.

- Notice minute oil leak from the tightening screws of the engine head cover and gasket (tho i cannot be sure if it comes from a blown gasket of the engine or the exhaust heads.

- Suspected that my exhaust leaked as I noticed carbon residual near the head gaskets and body frame

From my thread search, a blown head gasket could be a culprit but can anyone confirm on this? not oil seal issue? And wat is the price range to repair?

Also, i noticed traces of oil on my body frame where the front sprockett is located. Anything of main concern that I should be aware of?

My bad for the multiple enquiries.

Hi there i'm new to this field, to S4s as well.

Generally, coolant in the automotive industry has a typical flowrate of about 0.1 of your coolant reservoir, depending on the performance application.

it is however hard to trace the coolant leakage without equipment.

from my experience, you cannot tell if its leaking by parking and looking on the floor. the coolant doesnt not ciruclate when engine is off plus the fact that youre just topping up water.

Could you list out the following?

1) time the leakage while running the engine.

can calculate the leakage flow rate by taking off the possibilities. im looking at my newly bought s4 and it contains an average of ⌀6 - ⌀8. so if its leaking in the tubings, it can be easily detected. if its leaking multiple places, then u really need some effort. I believe you can do some extra markings on the coolant reservoir, so u dont need to wait till the next "line" that the reservoir displays.

2) drain out all the current coolant

use another colour of coolant/liquid that does not damage the system. use filter paper on all ports. that way u can specifically tell how much leakage is on every connection visually.

3) take out ur radiator and inspect it.

a damage radiator will bring up the temperature of the coolant by an extreme amount, causing it to dry up much faster.

or unless ure too lazy, use a coolant temperature sensor

4) if you too lazy for all the above,

report every hole with new tubs that the coolant is going tru and use extra measures that they are seal properly. if its still leaking means something is spoiled, leaving the components to be the culprit. becareful of the tight corners!

meanwhile. please becareful while working with the cooling system. especially if its very heated up. let it cool down first. i ever had cases of face burn because of the “flying coolant”. it comes from the immense pressure in the tank.

please note that i’m not very familiar with the S4, so my suggestions may not work for you.

do correct me if i am mistaken as well!

cheers
