Hi, recently bought a Project Big 1. I am experiencing bad fuel consumption, only about 16-17 km/L. Also, my top speed maxes out at 140-150km/h. I have done the following maintenance:

1) Change all 4 carburetor jet and leaky seals

2) Radiator and coolant maintenance (change all radiator hoses, radiator flush)

3) New spark plugs, engine oil and engine filter

4) Clean air filter

Ride is smooth and no other issues other than the high fuel consumption and low max speed. Any advice as to what I can do/check to improve the fuel consumption most importantly.

Change your throttle wrist twisting pattern.

Anyone can ride a bike. Being a biker, is a state of mind.

Don't change gears too soon..use the upper rpm for each gears...example..stay above 5.5k rpm to 8k rpm from 2nd gear onwards. Clear your exhaust too if there is a lot of black smoke..do till it's clear.

Stupid Hurts!.:giddy:Speed doesn't kill, mistakes does :faint:

BEER!...it's cheaper than fuel now! DRINK!..DON'T RIDE!

Hey Ah Pek, you advise me before on the minimum 5.5k RPM before gear change to save fuel. Can't really grasp your technical explanation back then. So... care to explain again? I believe most guys will benefit here.

It's already been explain in my previous post..that's is, don't move to the next gear too soon..use the upper rpm. If this you don't understand, I dunno know how else to explain. The other think is clutch in and let your bike road..don't use too much engine braking when coming to a distance stop.

Thanks Ah Pek for advice, will follow and monitor consumption. Any technical explanation as to why changing gears in that rev range will help with fuel consumption though?

You get better momentum and pull for the next lower year ratio for lesser amount in fuel usage when you only need to throttle less..meaning the bike rolls more and lesser fuel use. You oso do not clogged your exhaust and exhaust back compression does not blacken ur eo. Make sure your idling is at least at 1.3k rpm when bikes hot up..this gives better pull off and also better protection for ur upper cyclinder when bike is idling. Hope this is not too technical...cos, can't explain any better.

Just went to Teck Thye today to rebuild my rear shocks and front fork, feels like a whole new different bike now! Really solid job. Asked David there about my fuel consumption issue. He took a quick look and pointed out that there are 2 'holes' at the side of my carbs, where the air and fuel mix (maybe where the venturi or the throttle valve is), that is moist. He say perhaps my carbs leaking petrol vapours out from there that's why FC so bad. Will get it checked up soon.

Hi,

Mind to share what is the cost to rebuild your rear shocks and front forks? It takes how long to repair?

Cost will depend on how much work needs to be done and what kind of shocks. My inner shafts were bent so I had to replace that as well. Total front and back below $500.

He took about an hour each for front and rear (both) but it depends on how 'cooperative' your parts are because he takes apart the entire suspension. So if he has trouble taking apart certain parts then it will take longer.

After more than 1.5 years of riding Superfour, I still not used to the weight. Many times, I just felt like giving her up but I can't think of any bikes to replace her

S4 weight and posture is quite easy to adapt compare to class 2 sports tourer which are classified as super heavy bike. eg fjr, st1100, st1300.. i use to ride fjr.. that's abt 290kg wet weight.

probably just take some opportunities to push ur bike ard to get use to the weight.

:cheer:

Glad to have u in my life : ) Always love one another!

Well, who is this guy if you mind to share to all of us?

I am asking Bike dynamic about this service, they mention 1 to 3 days. I can't do that because I need my bike to transport.

I prefer 1 that looks nice with box so FZ8 or FZ1 seems like a good choice

But m I rite abt Superfour being light at the front? Anyone dun feels so?
