Bro RX1000,

After reading a few posts from you regarding using a G1 fork on a busa I would like to share with you a few things I found out about this mod which made me not to carry out this mod. Before I start, I would like to say that the info which I’m going to share is purely based on my own research and experience.

Below are the reasons why I did not perform this mod:

1. G1 upper fork legs are not the same diameter from the busa, thus you need to either bore the OEM triple clamp or buy an after market triple clamp. Most people choose the first option because is cheaper but to me boring the OEM clamp bigger=reduction in strength. I don’t feel safe to do that.

2. Lets say you managed to do step one, you need to change the spring to a higher rated spring because busa being heavier than G1, will bottom out the G1 springs and you will also not be able to get the correct static slag for your weight.

3. Lets say you also change the spring, than you need to change the valve used for compression and rebound setting because of the same reason as point number 2, due to busa’s weight heavier than G1.

4. There is also the front fender issue as G1 fork does not fit busa’s fender and require a few DIY brackets but you can use back the G1 fender but may affect high speed stability.

5. The last point is one which I’m not very sure until now. I think I read before somewhere that in order to complete this mod, you have to use G1 rims as the width of the wheel hub is not the same as busa and some people actually use bushings / washers to make it fit.

To me, if I’m are looking for a brake improvement, I will change out the whole braking system to an aftermarket one or change the whole front end set up to gen 2 configuration which have been done in Spore.

If I’m looking for handling improvement, a set of racetech gold valve will to the trick on the front end.

For me, my current front end set up is:

1. Brembo RCS master pump

2. Steel brake hose

3. EBC HH brake pads

4. Wave brake rotors

5. 15wt fork oil (OEM is 5wt)

6. Static slag to my weight

Hope the above info helps in your decision. Cheers!

The modification not too dificult. You need GSXR1000 forks, axles, calipers (master cylinders are optional) and some shim tape, and 2mm (approxx 0,0787 inch) spacer under the brake disc or totally new triple tree narrover 4mm than busa. I have 320 mm brake disc, just need a 5mm spacer under radial caliper clamp.

K3-K4 forks are better choice, no need another axle, and spacer under brake disc.

I had different brake master cylinders. First choice was Magura 19mm. It was not too good. The lever's pull too hard. Second was original K6 16 mm master cylinder, it's a good choice, the braking power and braking feel is wery good. Passed out of original Busa's indefinite feel and poor braking power. It's a real two(one) finger brake

Bro RX1000,

Not trying to make you angry or anything bro... Heheheee... but some of yr points there are wrong...

Like you, I too are a bit skeptical before I did this mod. Then I do my search on the subject and decided to go on with it.

1. G1 upper fork legs are not the same diameter from the busa, thus you need to either bore the OEM triple clamp or buy an after market triple clamp. Most people choose the first option because is cheaper but to me boring the OEM clamp bigger=reduction in strength. I don’t feel safe to do that.

All years GSXR 1000 & Hayabusa TOP triple clamp are the same diameter = 50mm.

The difference is on the BOTTOM triple clamp diameter.

Hayabusa ALL years diameter = 55mm

GSXR 1000 K3 - K6 diameter = 54mm

GSXR 1000 K7 - K8 diameter = 56mm

As you can see if you use the K7-K8 forks you need to bore the diameter by 1mm. If you use K3-K6 forks you need to add shim (to increase the diameter), as for my case I cut out REDBULL cans and use it as a shim to compensate for the 1mm difference.

The BEST option tho... is to use the GEN2 Hayabusa forks which required NO MOD at all!!

2. Lets say you managed to do step one, you need to change the spring to a higher rated spring because busa being heavier than G1, will bottom out the G1 springs and you will also not be able to get the correct static slag for your weight.

3. Lets say you also change the spring, than you need to change the valve used for compression and rebound setting because of the same reason as point number 2, due to busa’s weight heavier than G1

Spring Rate (kg/mm) Spring length

Hayabusa ALL Years = 0.85 250

GSXR 1000 K3-K4 = 0.85 230

GSXR 1000 K5-K6 = 0.95 250

GSXR 1000 K7-K8 = 0.97 238

Oerall Fork Lenght

Hayabusa ALL years = 725mm

GSXR 1000 K3-K8 = 720mm

As you can see the GSXR's spring rate is the same, if not, better than the busa's.

4. There is also the front fender issue as G1 fork does not fit busa’s fender and require a few DIY brackets but you can use back the G1 fender but may affect high speed stability

K3-K8 GSXR 1000's front fender can be use.No bracket or mod needed. Then again... Gen2 hayabusa is a straight bolt-on too!!!. (Anybody got GEN2 front fender for sale??? :) )

5. The last point is one which I’m not very sure until now. I think I read before somewhere that in order to complete this mod, you have to use G1 rims as the width of the wheel hub is not the same as busa and some people actually use bushings / washers to make it fit

As long as you USE BACK the oem triple clamps and wheel, there is NO NEED for bushings to keep the wheel alignment in place.

Once again ya bro Snake Sin, me no intention of making you angry or anything , just want to clear things up. No hard feeling ya....

I did the swap for me bike myself with helps from a few friends - No shops is involved.

Been to Thailand once, and numerous trips to KL with the set-up = Never regret on the mod. Go for it!!!!

Bro manbusa,

Because end of the day, i don't believe in swapping parts with other bikes...hahaha....Cheers for sharing!

Something to share from my point of view, not advisable although many whom i know did this modification.

Reason being due to the spacers,i strongly believe in time to come due to vibration and bumps due to road condition.

It may come off, deform maybe even rust.Unless you get 100% stainless steel spacers not just the outer coating for it.

Its best that it fits nicely meant for our bike and it doesnt compromise safety.Unless you are a Singapore POSER that is lol.
