Help.

I accidentally put diesel in my tank and at the advice of the petrol kiosk assistant, tried to ride it back home. Actually, I was planning to get rid of the diesel at home, so I thought a couple of km wouldn't matter. I was wrong. THe bike died on me halfway.

Anyone have any idea what this means on the bike? Is the engine spoilt? I'm gonna get it repaired tomorrow, but I want to know what happened to my baby now. Also good to know so that the motor diam won't chop me.

My engine is 250cc V Twin, 4 stroke. Only rode it 1 km.

Thanks to the kind souls who can help!

I salvaged a civilian car with my senior (his car). The bugger got conned by some inexperienced guy who pumped diesel into his jerry can and claiming its petrol for some OBM. But that bugger went to take the 'petrol' and poured into his car. It was only after a while did he realised that it was diesel. Lucky for him, he didn't start the engine. He asked me to help much to his embarressment and removed the fuel tank from the suzuki swift and drained out the diesel before getting real petrol to flush the tank. But our petrol was limited so we couldn't flush the tank properly. He drove the car away with some donated petrol and the car couldn't operate well for the next day. Lack of power. So we replaced the fuel filter, flushed the tank again this time with ample of petrol. And the car started to work normally again. Until today nothing wrong with the car.

Don't ever start your engine if you realised you pumped the wrong fuel. If not, you're going to get into many deep sh*t as the diesel reaches more places in your machine.

Anyway, so much for embezzelment of that 20L of fuel. He still never learn his lesson. Still uses his position to get the younger guys to bring in free petrol using work as excuse. But this time he check the fuel before pouring it in. Hope the workshop head finds out.

hey u shouldn't ride it home mah, once the disel get into the engine.. thats it...

what should u do.. u should drain out all the disel in your bike and pump back some cheap petrol like 92? $2 will be fine and shake yr tank hard.. after that drain yr petrol out and leave it there for a few mins for the petrol to dry up.. and than pump back yr desire petrol.. after that try to leave yr engine on and running so that the petrol can go into the engine and than u can ride off liao.

this way it will prevent any disel from entering yr engine and won't spolit your precious bike... hope this can help those that accidentally pump disel into their bike in the future. :goodluck:

How he checked the fuel? If the container doesn't have any label whatever so, just looking at the liquid with our naked eye are we able to tell it's diesel or petrol?

A small amount of diesel will NOT harm your engine, as long as you flush it out with the petrol that you normally use. Pouring some diesel into a worn engine is an old car dealers trick to raise the compression of a sick engine. It causes the rings to seal a bit better and the valves and all that to be slightly quieter. Of course as soon as you drive any real distance the diesel is gone, and its an old clunker again. But it will last the distance of a short test drive.

A full tank of diesel should just be drained into another container, keep the diesel for washing chains and other parts, dont just toss it away.

Whenever I need to store a bike for any length of time, I will fill up the cylinders with diesel, the fuel tank with some diesel and slosh it around. The oilyness of the diesel stopping any rust forming. I also put a bloody big sticker over the ignition and tank to tell me to drain and flush everything.

Diesel is a different colour to petrol, as is kerosene, 2stroke premix, leade and unleaded fuel.Next time you fill up take a look at the colour of the stuff you are pouring in. The fuel companies add a dye to the stuff, so you can tell what is being pumped.

Its also there to stop Petrol stations ripping you off, by selling low octane 92 as say hi-octane fuel. I have smelled some rather funky fuel in Malaysia, 'Au de Palm Oil' I believe.

Reminds me of my friend.

He just got his license for a few days only.

He was even more careless.

Fuel got stolen by some guy.

Went to petrol station and ask uncle to buy container petrol.

Uncle misunderstand him and give him 4T oil.

He also blur, pour the 4T into the petrol tank and

ride for a short distance before the bike give up.

Called me and ask why the petrol so expensive, 1 litre for $10+!

i agree

(btw, don't post emoticon reply hor)

anyways a long rubber hose could do the trick. just place 1 end in the deepest end of your tank, suck on the other end SLOWLY (diesel doesn't taste nice) until the tube is nearly filled to the point near your lips. quickly place your thumb over the end and stop the diesel from flowing back down the tube. pull the tube down to an area lower than your fuel tank and release your thumb, the siphoning effect will draw out most of the contents.

pls remember to rinse your mouth with water thoroughly after that :D

1) Using naked eye, petrol should be pink colour, diesel is yellowish.

2) Using touch, if light is bad, touch the liquid with 1 finger, because petrol petrol evaporate fast, petrol will feel cool, almost like alcohol, diesel will feel warm.

3) Using fire, petrol will ignite if a naked flame touches it, diesel will not light, unless you use a wick.

One last way, which I cannot do is to smell it. Guess it's because I wasn't born in the year of the dog.

Wonder what will happen if you continue riding? Engine overhaul? o_O

Doubt the chances of engine overhaul cos the engine will not be able to start up with diesel in its chamber. Like wat the rest said drain out.. flush tank and top up with clean petrol.. dun forget to clean the fuel filter

If the bike is using a carburettor, not so bad. Just drain and flush the tank with petrol, drain and flush/soak the carb in petrol, change plugs, should be OK to go. The leftover diesel in the engine cylinder will probably burn out after a few cycles.

If you're on a fuel-injected bike, ho ho. Good luck. The same thing happened to me, I had the foresight to call a tow truck before damage could be done to my injectors. On hindsight, I should have looked properly before lifting the YELLOW pump heeheh

The big difference between diesel and petrol is the flash point. Diesel's flashpoint is similar to kerosene... and diesel powered engines can use kerosene as an alternate fuel.

Diesel is highly penetrative, meaning that it requires good seals to keep it in check. Diesel engines tend to show signs of leaks when compared to a petrol engine of the same age.

Diesel engines are very high compression engines which use the high compression to heat up the air that is being compressed.. and diesel is sprayed into the cylinder by injectors and the diesel ignites as it is sprayed into the hot cylinder. No spark plug or ignition of any sort.

So what will happen if diesel is introduced into the tank of petrol engine? Nothing much... just drain everything out, tank, fuel lines, fuel filter and carb. If injector equipped, just unplug and bleed the injector lines by cranking the engine to purge out the diesel.

If the mistake was realised before starting the bike... only the tank needs to be flushed. But if the bike has been ridden till plenty of smoke have been coming out of the exhaust... then the previous paragraph work needs to be carried out.

Whoever tells you that the engine needs to be overhauled does not know much about engines or he is trying to rip your wallet off.

just grab the pump noozle and pump without thinking..especially when it is habit to buy value for money stuff(ie cheapy chepay one)so choose the lowest price..hahah

especially those who is doing the first time...

it used to be diesel dispenser are located away from petrol dispenser...must b a smart aleck who change that.
