More practical to strip the Phantom down, do some aero stuff and pretend to be some 1950s cafe racer. (Cafe racer posing!!)

i was wondering what the look honda's DN-1 was trying to be. Until i saw one in the flash today. Wo, that strobe blue light in front, cafe racer fairing over its quiet V-twin, shaft drive, chopper riding position. I think i like this over the honda fury, aka american chopper. DN1 definitely is a honda trademark.

I saw one at Mah showroom a year ago or so.. It looks unusual, but I am not sure what to make out of its design. Hardly a cult figure in modern motorcycling. Apparently, they are not selling well at all.

Mid-lane antics are not entertaining nor are they very efficient; waiting for a clear overtaking opportunity to zoom past all the slow movers is ultimately more productive. While staying clear from the usual hazard-causing riders/drivers.

Exactly!

I honestly do not mind them overtaking me, going as fast as they want, pulling 10 o'clock wheelies and doing whatever else they fancy; but I seriously do mind when their stunts affect my own safety and/or the police have to stop all traffic because of debris and/or bodies on the motorway.

It has a fun name for Royal Navy fans - call it the Dreadnought or something, and it does look the part.

However reviews say it's not very practical at all, citing uncomfortable riding position for long distances, no integral cargo space, and not exactly very sporty either.

But...

It has the exact same riding posture as a custom Phantom with a beach bar, according to the press photos I've seen, so it's designed to be the ultimate posing machine?

With the patented Human Friendly Transmission (yes, that's what it's CVT system is called), you can stare at the passing ladies all day, wafting down Orchard Road without needing to change a gear :D

I might as well fly the Portuguese flag from the bike... after the national day season that is :D

I remember 1 Poser in my poly who rode a SP:

Poser: Next time I bring spare helmet, I bring you for a ride at night!

Impressed Girl: Wah! What bike do you ride?

Poser: I ride a REPSOL!

-_-"

Oh, that's because every photocopier is also known as XEROX.. :)

Agreed!

But the other extreme is also bad! I never wash my bike :p Only clean chain, wheels, chrome, tank. The rest look like WW3.

Still better than my cub days. Ever seen a bike washed once in... 5 years? Singapore plate, not J plate Lol

Touring or tracking can be very expensive and time consuming... Does 2nd link count? :)

As for bike being clean part... - objection, Your Honour.. I like my ride clean at all times, but that is my personal preference. And I keep her clean and well looked after - she is a member of my family. :)

it does not make sense if one can buy an STX, Ducati 1098 or a Hayabusa but cannot afford to go touring or tracking once in a while...

clean, of cos cannot all the time clean right? unless the person no life, every day or few days wash and polish bike kilak kilak...

Different people have different ideas, different bikes, different budgets and different priorities. :)

Cannot blame them for being different, right? and you shouldn't, really..

I see nothing wrong with friends getting togther on a weekend, washing and polishing their rides, and generally enjoying the social side of it.

blame? who is blaming here? im not... i just saying these people with these practices are just posers to me, issit wrong to be a poser? it's not.

am i a poser? im not, i do tour to a certain extent with my class 2b bike. am planning to join my friends for a west msia loop ride using my 2b bike next year.

as the thread topic states about "we know you're a poser if...." to me these ppl are as good as posers. bike is just an status kind of thing, neither touring nor tracking are in their biking activities...

a true biker to me, has to meet certain criterias, love to ride, tour or track. these 3 basic criteria are a basics of a true biker in my opinion.

a true biker does not just paste decals, clean and polish bike all the time. again this is just my opinion.

My friend, nobody is accusing anybody here... We are like one big and happy family... :)

Indeed, there is nothing wrong with being a poser and everybody is entitled to have an opinion. :)

Good for you, bro - do your Malaysian trip and have fun! It does not matter what bike you ride, poser or not - as long as you enjoy what you do and do it in a safe manner. I am sure you will enjoy Malaysian motorways. :)

To me, a poser is someone who doesnt even know the basics of his/her own bike. Asked a friend of mine who was riding a XJ6, i haven seen such a bike before and was curious on its specs.

Me: Is your engine a inline-4, v-twin, v-four?

Fren: Huh? i dunno whats that.

Hahaha!

Poser enough?

I find that posers are who have riding gear costs as much as their bikes?

Seen a guys with AGV Helmet, armoured jackets, gloves and boots. I thought he was riding a BMW GS i saw at the carpark but end up he riding off a pink Phantom...

And also pasting Branded stickers on the cheap helmet?

Arai sticker on Evo helmet... Hmmppf!

Motorcycling is about posing anyway!

Otherwise we will all ride Communist built, functional and economical bikes like these:

Nothing against functional bikes from the 70s built like AK-47s - they are brilliant! (That's a Minsk 125cc. Russian design.)

ppl gear up properly and then considered 'poser' just coz its a 2b bike? wats up wif that?

frankly speaking the one laughing at the proper gear is the ignorant one.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!
