Helping out at a friend's bike shop as a mechanic I have met some customers who in my humble opinion....REALLY deserve the title of posers....

Ride expensive sports bikes... but can only afford to buy second hand track scuffed tyres.

First want to pose as rich guy with sports bike when actually struggling to afford.... and then show off to others like as though he is the one that scuffed the tyres till there are no chicken strips.

uncle Raptor should post in the financially off ppl should learn to curb their desires for exp bikes

What is a chicken strip? Blur...

It's that strip of tyre on the outer edge which is still pristine. How wide or narrow your chicken strip is shows how low you've taken your bike when cornering.

if u can unds it..

that is something i don understand. if wear proper gear while going touring, don wear gear while riding locally...

i ask the same question, is the road locally less rough and hard compared to boleh-land tarmac? a low speed 50kmh crash can cause serious enough injuries.

i understand the reluctance to gear up, the inconvenience, the warm and humid weather, etc, etc.

but hey, i do not want to incur hefty hospital medical bills, painful bathes and the likes.

dun wear safety gear = poser? wat rubbish is that?

and having passion in riding doesnt mean u have to ride up north.

ya safety gear is important. but as an adult u made ur choice whether to gear up or not and face the consequences when something happens. u can remind ppl how important safety gear is but ppl have the choice whether to wear or dun wear the gears.

if i choose not to wear = poser no passion??

imo passion can be define in many ways.

for me whenever im on my bike and riding, i will be excited and happy. Thats passion to me.

and ya i dun wear those gears unless im riding up north cause its heavy and hot. and sometimes i wear racing slippers cause im lazy to wear my shoes just to go out for supper and im prepared for watever thats happening to me.

imo dun ride a bike if ur so scare of accidents until u need to wrap urself into a "ba zhang".

lastly... im a poser with passion and doesnt care wat u think about my riding style :p

Didn't you know that there're a lot of safety preachers in SBF? :D

I'm starting to see a pattern in them. Can you?

Not so fast... Let this thing play out first. ;)

Objection, Your Honour.

I know for a fact sweat dries faster than blood. First hand that is. And I would honestly hate to see anybody here being airlifted with tubes attached to the body..

This thread is not about being fast; it is all about surviving on the streets, every day. :)

Hey, if you really want to be cool, you can always try track without those leathers.. Too bad, they won't let you. I bet they all are slow there.. :)

I see where you getting at. Well i was less protected during my younger days, cause i couldnt afford the jacket, the full face then. But i was pretty quick reflex then. Now i am older, i have the money, decided to take it slow and insured myself with the pose looks, anyway mine's a big bike, so its normal in sg to see big bikers tend to wear more gear. Its a asian mentality all over, just like in indonesia, malaysia, vietnam, gears are really lacking because of the weather, especially if you ride on a daily basis, mid day temperature. Note, full gear raise your temperature and also lose some concentration you know. Either way, it depends on individuals' confidence and take on likelihood of crashes. Those who choose not to wear, you can never convince them to, its just too hot and too many things to lug along.

K... My turn to add. I don't care what people think and if they choose not go with safety gear, that's their biz too cos it's their skin.

Personally I gear up and just handle the hot weather as it comes along. The weather isn't really all that bad when you think about it. And after awhile your body conditions itself to cool down when you have to tahan the heat over a period of time.

I really don't think it's anything to do with posing really. Plus I'm wearing a full-face. If say I'm really posing, who's gonna recognize my face?

In terms of attention grabbing while riding, nothing beats riding in nude...

Steps to do a proper KNNBCCB with middle finger.

1. Bow down slightly, looking intensely at objective

2. Like a raging bull, hop and jog slowly towards objective

3. Take your left palm and slap it hard on the right mid-arm with a SLAP!

4. With charisma, raise right arm, whilst showing middle finger (with left palm trapped in bend right arm)

5. Shout! KNNBCCB

geez, bro..

my point is ur point.

passion or poser cannot be determined by safety or "bohiu".

!= means "not equal".

apologies for any misunderstanding.

meaning we share the same views in that ppl have their own choice where safety gears are concerned, and that passion cannot be measured simply by the amount of safety gears donned.

i merely mentioned that coz it was starting to look like "safety vs bohiu" instead of "poser or otherwise" as started..

well, for one, i dun care if that's the title anyone would place on me, coz the only time i wanted to "preach" about safety to a biker acquaintance, i didn't, and she passed on several months ltr.. not the safety gears per se, but more on safety riding..

so to all safety minded motorcyclists, do continue with our safety gears/ riding efforts.

if u ride for transport... very hard to full gear lehz

too many things to carry, helmet in one hand, jacket in the other, pants n gloves in the box.

bring some extra items, and very easily you will have to carry your pants as well.

plus, ur frens in cars all have 2 wait for u to change everytime u park, then sometimes they have to help u carry your stuff also

not convenient unless you dont go shopping, own a car to carry your bulky items, or u only do leisure rides

boring rider. with a boring bike.

too old to want to appear interesting anymore.

usually i ride w/o much gear, and i don give a sheet what other ppl thinks..

big bike but no gear, ppl down down or wat ???

honestly u expect me to dress up in full gear to the neighbourhood shopping mall ??

only gear up when i anticipated spirited riding or up north.

Being safety minded is good. I never contended that fact.

But like religion, some things are better kept to oneself, especially if other ppl have already told you "Thanks, but no thanks, now get the frak out of my face." :)

Let's face it. Everybody would like to gear up, if gearing up didn't mean sweating like a pig at the end of your ride, and then finding out that you have to lug your gear around town 'cos you don't have a box.

Some of you have boxes and are willing to reach your destination sweaty. Good for you.

Some others may like their pristine sportbike to not be desecrated by an ugly box on the back. It's their prerogative. Nothing wrong there. So without ample storage, they decide to ride with less gear, or no safety gear at all, save their helmets. They made their choice, taken their calculated risks, and to be blunt... it's their motherfrakking business, and not anyone's else. Yours or mine.

As for safety preachers. There are the experienced riders here who go around dishing out advice to ppl on safety. That's commendable. But I noticed that they do not attempt to shove that information or culture down the throats of others and repeat it ad nauseum. They know better, having spent that much time on the road. Live and let live.

The safety preachers here I'm talking about are usually the noobs who have rode only for that short time on the road, but keep yapping about safety to others, and trying to evangelize their mindset upon others without stopping to see if their attempts are starting to piss off others. Who knows? Maybe it's a feel-good, pat-oneself-on-the-back feeling that they get from spreading some kind of gospel around.

Ppl have brains to think, and they made their choices knowing full well the consequences of what they are doing. We don't need some excited, wet behind the ears, ride-ling to tell us that we're posers just 'cos we don't gear up. So kindly excuse me if I return my appreciation to your broken-record with a big Frak Off.

Woohoo! Dude... the truth is out and the gloves are off... :D

To be honest, I think the argument here is: You gear up and you are a poser! You don't gear up and you are unnecessarily putting yourself at risk.. Not really about preaching anything..

Basically, any GEAR==POSER.

So, to some extent this is true and correct: it indeed feels odd to gear up and go for a short ride to see a friend or to some local shops.. Some people opt not to and some choose to 'dress up'. It is hot in this country and it is their call in the end, just like you said.

What I am trying to put across, is that a proper riding attire would save your hide and maybe more. When? I dunno.. At least when your numbers are up, you are prepared and ready. You know it just as well as I do. It might be heavy and awkward, it would make you look like a Power Ranger, you would sweat like a pig.. Absolutely! But still, everyone must be safe in the knowledge that should they personally feel they want to put all that kit on, it would be perfectly fine and other riders would not laugh at their expense..

I feel that almost everyone here is under a lot of peer pressure, especially youngsters - maybe they would want to put their riding boots on, but are afraid their mates would tease and laugh at them.. And when they grow up, they never bother - this is how it has always been...

Again, you've somewhat missed the point.

I don't consider anyone who gears up on the road a poser. Far from that, I think that they're doing good for themselves.

And I probably wished that I had their resolve in going through all that trouble and potential discomfort to protect themselves.

But I don't, and that's that. I'll take the risk of road rash just to keep myself cool and sweatless as possible while riding my balltoaster machine in slow moving, traffic laden, roads of SG.

No. It's not about the poser bit at all.

My beef is simply about the yappers who prattle on and on about the virtues of gearing up while dissing those who choose not to.

And most of these yappers are oftentimes, IMO and from what I see, frakking n00bs. Trying to "teach" other ppl what they already know at heart, but simply do not want to practice. That's all there is to it.
