lets say some rider got into an accident, medical bills came up to $1,000. repair of bike is $1,800 thereabouts. borrowing $500 to fix up his bike, i think its reasonable.

well.... i would assume in that case, that is what insurance is for?

unless he is riding without insurance then he should be locked up and the key thrown away.

and again how do u know in TS situation its not a need or are u assuming???

bike ownership is ALWAYS a want.... especially since singapore's transportation network is advanced enough to bring you to anywhere within the island.

i would find it hard pressed to find a NEED to own a bike in Singapore actually. Can you?

yes it is...if 500 is a small sum then y dun u lend it to TS..anyway not to offend but what husher is saying is that we dunno TS situation in the first place and its not right to judge..

the fact that u state dun have 500 to fix a bike, shdnt be riding at all its wrong since we dunno tat 500 is for what that needs fixing..if TS states for accessories then yes you are right but if its becoz he is trying to get up from some accident or like what husher says becoz of just started werk or sth with valid reason then we shd find it somewhere to understand..

No offence intended...

I would assume that you're muslim right?

Given that the Quran specifically forbids the taking and giving of interest... why are you encouraging TS to take a loan?

wouldn't that go against your religious leanings especially during this so called "holy" month?

Haiz..he can take a loan but the interest is abt paying back and if tts wat stated in the contract of agreement and one agrees then its up to his choosing... its wrong to take but to give has its criteria not only in the Quran but Sunnah too friend....not encouraging either since we dunno what its for..

interest tt we cant consume is what we get, not what we give..giving is the other party's agreement or contract..its ok if we have to pay, no fault in it..its just like buying any groceries then they charge gst..tts also interest but we have to pay coz its the country law and agreement..hope u understand..

i rather not talk abt religious issues before it gets out of hand..so ok la ur right, u win..:thumb:

well... let's just agree to disagree.

I just feel strongly against young people getting into debt [ I inferred that he's probably quite young since he even has problem coughing out $500]

I've seen too many cases of people not knowing what they get themselves into.

alot of times, these so called "legal" moneylenders are not much better off than illegal ahlongs.

TS would do well to avoid them.

i agree with this view on ppl getting into debt too but sometimes it cant be helped on certain situations..i've seen ppl in dire straits too but their situation differs for different needs as well..:thumb:

I think this is a healthy thread to exercise caution for motorcycle/car/property owners. Don't let your properties own you. Live within your means.

I have seen too much cases of car/bike owners getting their vehicles repo because they could not furnish the monthly loans/repairs/maintenance.

Eg, $0 drive/ride aways are fine if you are sure you can furnish the monthly loan, occasional repairs etc. It is not fine if you are struggling to keep it.

I have personally met a biker who bought a brand new 600 cc bike. Could not even afford to install an alarm when his neighbour told him someone wanted to steal his bike. In the end bought a cheap $20 disc lock at LAB.

When asked what was his occupation, he told me he is working as KFC delivery, wife pregnant and his pay not out yet.

I think sometimes you really got to set your priorities right.
