And oh....forget about buying the sleeping bag, cos thats dependant on the weather you are travelling in. Buy there. For summer or for winter, different protection of sleeping bags. Same with the hiking shoes. Trust me.

And few rules at the Hostels. Dont put your bag onto the bed. Cases of bed bugs has hostel operators being serious about it. And read the number of your bed properly. If you plonk yourself or your bag on the wrong bed. They will throw you out of the hostels, irrespective what time it is. or that you were in the shower and naked, they will drag you out and throw you.

Make sure you have lots of coins on you, for the laundry machine. And time yourself when you go out to eat while your clothes are being laundered. Cos if you dont clear your load when your time is up. People will just take out the clothes and dump into the wastebin for you.

And oh.....bring along dark colour clothings.....so you wont have to spilt your wash load. And buy detergents there and spilt into smaller ziplock bags among your friends, so you wont need to buy expensive small packet detergents or lug around big household size of detergents. Try for liquid detergent cos they dont leave powdery substance on your dark clothes.

Careful with the hot showers. Dont stand under the shower during its first spray. Might burn you. Let the shower runs a while before you step under it so you get the right temperature first.

Since you are backpacking.....

Visit one of those outdoor shops, get a carbon water filter of sorts. Its for you to put into a soft case water bottle, collect water from any open tap, filter squeeze into your mouth or cup. Dont ever drink direct from that water bottle anymore but carry it around in your fanny pouch. Will save you a lot of money from buying bottled mineral water.

Have another clear bottle, to hold your filtered or already boiled water.

if any of you by chance interested to get a Arcteryx Bora 80

I am selling mine for a cheap price as I hardly use this backpack.

Got it at 2006 from campers corner for my Nepal Trip.

Campers Corner is the only shop that brings in Arcteryx products.

Updates?

Hows the move? Are you checking in here?

Hi kitty,

thanks for asking. I am good!. so far been to germany (frankfurt, wurberg, bamberg, lichtenfels and cologne), amsterdam, paris, madrid, milan, belgium.

Im glad i bought the expandable backpack (40 + 10Litres) becoz i can take out my jacket and handcarry on board the plane with the 40L configuration. on the streets, i expand it back to 50L configuration so my hands are free to check GPS and map! haha

the train system in europe is efficient but very expensive. a 250km round trip on train in germany costs 200 euros! as i am permanently located in belgium, it is easy to travel to paris, amsterdam and london by train. and i actually prefer train as i do not need to worry about hand carrying the backpack.

i do travel by plane (budget airlines, easyjey, ryanair and wizzair) sometimes when its cheap, on promo. for instance, easyjet from brussels to malpenxa (milan) is only 40 euros for a round trip.

have been staying in hostel so far. boathostel in amsterdam is very nice experience. madrid is also very fun with very good metro system. i have nv waited for more then 3 mins in madrid's metro so far. but its very dangerous, i was pick pocketed twice. luckily nothing was lost.

anyway weather is getting cold here, so i will start my trips again in feb. haha

No more regrets.
