Hi, did a search on EO but lots of mixed reviews considering the dif in EO brands/types and also the variety of 4-stroke bikes around.

So this thread is specifically to find out which brand and type of EO is the best (if any) for our CB400. I dunno if theres any dif for the various versions (V-tecs, PB1, ver S/R) but since mine is ver S, hope other S-owners can provide more of their views.

Anyway, i now currently using R4, changed at combine @$20 per btl, its good, but i want to try cheaper fully-synth alternatives.

Tried to get the $16/btl Royal Purple maxcycle but tanjong pagar outta stock, gotta wait 2 wks for the next batch, sianz... :giddy:

i using R4 oso.change at HKL @ $16/btl

It does not matter on the absolute weight. It depends on how long you

hold it.

If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, we will not be able to carry on as the burden becoming increasingly heavier.

The more I ride my SV, the less I care about going to the annual bike show and looking at new,

or expensive, or exotic machinery. I'm continuing to mod my bike into exactly what I want it,

and enjoying every mile I put on it.

hi kazuhiko,

u mean u are not using the $16 maxcycle for ur s4? i thought of using the cheaper rp motoroil, but since its for cars, was put off by any potential damage to our clutch plates? (dun want to risk it on my baby) :giddy:

someone in hands on section got an offfical reply from the manufacturer who guarantees that the $10 oil can use on bikes oso (that particular offical backed this claim up personally saying he used it for his 3 personal honda bikes w/o trouble), but some forumers contradicted it, reported its smoothness is not lasting... hmmm...

so can elaborate more on how gd u think is the $10 rp? anyway have u tried rp maxcycle?

for $20/btl, i recommend the motul 300V. R4 isn't as gd as wat it claims. the base stock (raw material) used by R4 is actually rated 2.5 out of 5 but motul 300V is 5 out of 5. which is better? i tink u shld know the answer by now

Actually my S4 manual states that for atmospheric temperature for our country ranging from about 20ºC to 40ºC we should use 20W-50 EO. But I realise alot of them using full synth 5w-20 or even "thinner" oil, is that really advisable? Considering the fact that our country is not cold enough to make the EO thicken...

rough engine, lots of vibration, made the bike sluggish, struggling to accelerate, & it ran hot....never again man. my mechanic also advised against it, he said it was only a brand name, nothing exceptional. But i clever want to try....clever clever kena bang.o_O But no worries ~elf. i think its 15w 50 fully syn. bout $18 plus labour. :thumb:

hi pufferfis,

er.. yah i did looked thorougly thru the list, but they only reflect price.

wad i want to know also is the feedback of those particular EO usage by other s4 owners. esp ver S owners, hehe...

cos i not sure oso if EO would be differently suited for the range of s4, or if they can even range throughout individual bikes, lydat we sure to have headache trying out which is the best for our own bikes liao.

:giddy:

anyway u riding ver S? which EO u using?

IMO as long as it the eo is fully syn, i think is good enough for the bike.

i will normally change eo together with oil filter.

of course if you can choose to use better eo cos might increase performance a bit.

correct mi if wrong :cheeky:

I wanna try Esso Gold, the one at KL Cycle. The promotion still there?

Any comments on Esso Gold?

Thanks.

The greatest mistake is to repeat the same mistake

Bike runs smoother on esso gold than on r4, for sure....but funny, no help in gear shifting, & neutral also hard to find now...

It doesn't cook well, long distance heat.....clutch turn into toasted bread fuggin fast. bloody hell.

Thats The only pluspoint of r4....the engine could run hot.

I still recommend elf fullysyn for ver.s.:thumb:
