I think it's hard to totally overcome your phobia, but you can try to handle it best as you can. I think the best suggestion would be, as mentioned, to take classes in the school to see how you feel towards riding a bike again.

If you do feel that you can ride on the roads, it is likely you will approach all bends slower. I think that is not an issue provided you are not hogging and there are not "garang" drivers behind. From there on, I believe things will get better :)

Ignore flashers, usually done by impatient or stupid drivers, I flash if the mofo is driving like an idiot or at jaywalkers.

I'm thinking of going to take higher class in bike license, and I have been playing with this ideas for quite sometime but I can't get over my own phobias.

This phobias come about a few years back when I was riding to work after a big quarrel with my exbf. I made a left turn from major road into minor road at high speed, no matter how hard I bank my bike, he went across the middle white line into oncoming traffic's lane. A S4 uncle behind me thought I'm playing with bike, after I stopped at the CP near my workplace, he told me off that, this is road, not PG. But I sure I'm not playing, just not concentrating.

It just happened that there wasn't any traffic in the oncoming direction, nor do I flip over. Since then this phobias grow. When I work nearer to my home, I sold my bike.

Guys, anyway to overcome the phobias?

For you, please go get the liceinse and ride what ever you want.

This phobias is actually a lesson learned or an experiance...for sure when ever you wanted to make a turn like this, you will be extra caution...only good thing about this.

Down side...you may be a bit slow or take longer time each turn when those green horn will just go zoom like that....ignore all the comment do what you think safe....speaking from experiance!..remember it is not phobias...is a lesson learned.

Those are some of the scariest motorists on the road. If possible I would change to a left lane to allow them to pass! I become paranoid when I see the headlight becoming bigger in my mirror............

Usually don't have that problem though, often ride fast and nimble enough so no one can tailgate.

yea, maybe cause of the time i ride, after rain, lesser tp and rov or lta.. :sian:

If rain or right after rain then I ride relaxed, depends how much you trust your tyres, I don't trust any wet road not because my tyres suck, they're good but I just don't. Past experiences has taught me so.

Dry roads brings the demon out of me.

agreed. my phobia arises only on wet roads.

speed to ride through wet corners drop drastically to almost half as compared to dry corners..

sometimes you see glossy roads at a distance, you cant really tell if its water or oil. so.... better to play safe :thumb:

Route planning is doubly important in the wet because your speed and agility is limited by the weather.

Try to do a 'straight line approach' to your destination, minimising the number of turns and giving time for you to get into the optimal lane prior to 'final approach' to the target.

Also look out for negative camber turns (road slopes away from the turn) where the outer part is sunken. You can very easily slide the back wheel out if you go in at high power.

Also know the limits of your tyre. If your bike shop likes to give you rock hard tyres I suggest not to ride in bad weather until you rectify the over-inflated tyres. Overinflating means very poor wet weather traction and contributes to some bike models having a 'skid prone' reputation. It's not the bike, it's not the rider, its the mechanic who thinks, oh, big tyre, must put 300kpa pressure!

Only way to overcome a phobia is to go at it head on. If not the phobia will remain. Its hard but its the first step which is the hardest.
