What I did was to squeeze when all the cars are stationary due to traffic light. Then as i go thru i look at the distance b/w my panniers and the vehicle. Its not very nice to damage other ppl vechicle while trying out..

For my case, ppl hit me coz they never notice a rear side panniers as they cut in

:(

Hope this helps

You are to an extent very right. After installing my panniers, i found it it is so much safer not to squeeze. But then again that also kinda reduced my fun on the way to work!

Practise makes perfect.... can also try using your mirrors as a gauge, estimate how much further the panniers stick out from your mirrors' width, and then use that as a guide.

And when in doubt, don't squeeze 1st!

erm.... R1szuan,

how come you still alive and kicking after doing all that damage? :cheeky:

dint nobody come after you?

anyway, most bike with original side panniers (eg beemers, divvy900, 02 vfrs) have that problem of a wider backside (of course, less ST11, where the wing mirrors are wider. if the wing mirrors go through, we got absolutely no problem with the panniers following suit). let's not talk about aftermarket panniers. they go as wide as they wanna get... :nono:

please guys, if you are riding a "big boy" by now, you should know it's totally not safe to follow smaller bikes like the SPs, Krrs to go squeezing in between cars. big bikes have an obvious wider width. if in doubt, stop and let the cars move ist. just too bad for those bikes following behind you haha... the most, stay behind cars and let them admire your big bike lor...

why get yourself into such unnecessary risks?

Drink. Ride. Bloody Idiot.

guess i am too used riding without side box..and i tot my boxes is small and cute...however it is not. Fat,big and ugly..hehehehee one day i should measure the breath of VFR,FJR,St13,GS and Goldwing. Use it as guide for me...

Posted

VFR the box not only protrude out quite abit..but also mounted very high up so the height just nice to strike the wings of cars.

Other touring bike the boxes are mounted much lower to improve CG.

Posted

hehe.. one way to "try out" squeezing is to follow behind a bigger bike.. =) tat's wat i did when i first got my bike and i had a real phobia to hit people's car.. keke.. so wil juz follow when i see any STs.. FJR in the front.. slowly from there..wil learn to gauge the distance and make it easier to do it on my own.. BUT.. one thing is.. you mite not see them often loh....

simple solution : take out boxes when riding around singapore lah.

koma dont tell me u REALLY need all 3 boxes to go to base and back.

ha ha sorry use u as an example cos your boxes are the fiercest.

maybe that the reason why i got problem in squezzing..my bike the box is abit on par with the car mirror..probably that why my judgement is bad.

last time my 2 sidebox is below the car mirror so no problem man...

I agree with you in bigger bikes not squeezing. Somehow it really feels safer but less exciting. Other then hitting other ppls vehicle, its a bit heartpain to see parallel lines on your bike n panniers.

For me now I listen to music and ride like a goldwing hehe. Some drivers gave a thumbs up when they saw me since I put my panniers. Some even strike a conversation at the lights.
