Hi to the Flying dutchman!!!! hahahah

Hi hi :cheeky:

yah great. handles much sharper than my '00 R1 one though. but definitely super UN-comfortable compared to the viffer. Its sound really great too, both on idling and at high rpms. Very different from the existing 600s

yah . i just realised that... I experienced tank slap on the R1 before very often....but this one is so major i hit my thumb along with screeching as the wheels are in the wrong direction of my bike travel! scary!!..........morever i have not dialed in the sus... so BIG mistake of me.

The VFR & R1 sus are soft, so they ripped the bumps well. but lose out on high speed corners. Never mind damper on the way haha.

thank you for your comment. I bet every bike is are great n nice in their own ways as they r made for different purposes!

Ooo.. But did it make the bike run very lean afterwards? Or you already have a PC installed? Thanks for the help btw..

I dont think so. I think the purpose of the cat is to burn of excess petrol in exhaust gas. From my bike you can smell the unburn petrol from the exhaust. I think the purpose of removing it is for better exhaust flow, thats why it feels like more power.

The manufacturer's recommended maintenance regime is no diff or any more expensive than othe bikes of the same genre. Consumables like oil, filters, tyres , chains, brake pads are about the same. You only pay for more if you go for the more nama nama brands.

It is ultra reliable with the very occasional rectifier problems.

Scroll thru the earlier postings in this thread and see some of the other guys maintenance log. This bunch of viffers are very generous :thumb: in that they are willing to share the low points of their bikes here; altho the highs far outweighed the lows.

Unfotunately ofr viffers, the resale price of VFR is not one of its strong points due to the high new cost.

However, I am very very happy with my (2nd) VFR (99 vers, non- Vtec).

Finally. dont let the maintenance cost, which is not significantly different, become the major consideration in yr decision - it will take out the fun and pride in owning & riding this bike. :thumb:

I went autobac to look see yesterday and realise that the way I spent maintaining my VFR is more than what my friend did for his car.

On an item to item comparison of

1 L engine oil: $20 (need 3.3L),

air filter: $60/$100,

1xbattery: $140,

pair of brake pads: (need 3 pairs) $50 pair,

spark plugs: (need 4) $26 ea,

H7 light bulbs: (need 2 pairs) $30 pair;

I spent more than what my friend did.

Even for a pair of tyres, I paid around 75% of of his 4 rubbers!

Not forgetting I am using wash/wax product for cars too.

Take note, I always use quality stuff for my bike.

none... you used 3.3l for EO with filter. I have never used more than 2.9l even with filter change. During the 1st 3 servicing, mechanic poured in 3 l and is too mugh. Air-box were stained with oil.

What I did is during my own oil change, I tried to be as constant in all aspects.. especially hyow long you wait from eng shutdown. Then pour in below 1/2 n monitor for a few days before topping up. This is done several times to find out the ave oil needed. They never passed 3l. (And 3l was oly attained with bike left un-started for 2 weeks before the oil was drained)

Too little is bad, too much is not as good. Maybe u can try monitoring? that can save the 0.3l of the 4th bottle..

Your comparison is strictly between a superbike and a normal compact family car. It is not accurate. I have also noticed that diff as I drive one of these, a Mazda. So, No comparison. You should instead compare with say a Porsche or Aston Martin or say Mitsubishi EVO or WRX STI. These are sports / coupes and their classification would be more equivalent in auto term to the VFR.

As for your cost, you apparently are more liberal. My cost are vastly cheaper than yours. Below is a comp of yours and mine in [].

1 L engine oil: $20 (need 3.3L), [Mine: $12.50 x 3L Mobil M1, Oil filter from Mazda -$6 ea]

air filter: $60/$100, [Mine: K&N - $85 + $20 for cleaning&oiling kit - reusable]

1xbattery: $140, [Mine: Yuasa - $70]

pair of brake pads: (need 3 pairs) $50 pair, [Mine: Ferodo Platinum: $22 per caliper]

spark plugs: (need 4) $26 ea, [NGK Iridium: $12 ea]

H7 light bulbs: (need 2 pairs) $30 pair; [Mine: Kioto (japan made) 90/100W H4 - $5 ea]

I do all maintenance myself - so no service charges.

So, you see, there are cheaper options alto as you say, yours are top of the pops.

cheers

M 1 "auto" oil from eBay @$50 for 4L. M1 "bike" oil from LAB at $15/L. No diff.

Well normally, I just fill it up accordingly using the crankcase window indicator as a gauge.

I do not monitor the level until the next EO change. :giddy:

It's about 3l w/o filter, 3.3l w filter.

Yeah true, I should used a better comparison.

Anyway just for fun, I will prefer a 2l Honda Integra as a auto equivalent of the VFR.

hamster u using wat brand EO...using motul?motul bottle is slighltly bigger...

i used from repsol, sikolene to maxima.

So far the sikolene & maxima is really smooth and comfy on me & my bike. Teh sikolenes tends to feel slightly more thicker.

Size of bottle does not matter, its the volume that counts. So far all the bottles i used measure about 2.8l with filter change.

Hi All,

In the pass months I have been trying to order a huggers for my VFR but due to some communication problem with NWS I am unable to order direct. What a waste of time?

Currently I got two options, I am talking to the guys from motovation if they are will to order on my behalf either from NWS or Pyramid. He is more willing to order if ther is a bulk order. My second options is to order from US and from this website, http://www.superbikestore.com

These are their prices in US

NWS

Black $190

Carbon Fiber $280.

Pyramid

Black $149.95

Carbon Look $159.95

Silver $179.95

Powerbronze

Black $119.95

Carbon Look $129.95

They may look expensive but the guy is willing to give me 10% off retail if there is more than two items ordered. Who know I could try to get a better deal if there is anyone interested to order together? Btw the shipping, they are charging $30.

I am also open to suggestions on how to get my hands on th either NWS or Pryamid huggers.

yup... i used the indicator too to determine how much to put in the next time, without causing air-box to b fed with oil. I attain 3/4 mark after overnight based on past monitorings. Thats abt 2.8l for me .. weird..

Yeah .. always like to own a high reving NA car.. the DC-2 is more classic! i prefer that to the DC-5 though

Haven't used or really seen the other brands except NWS. Comments on it

Pros i think

1. Looks awesome! Best shaped to match the bike so far I have seen

2. Super secure & easy installation. Prob take 15 mins max?

3. Neat covering of hoses.. & styled to match too!

4. The shocks are very much cleaner! not to mention the under tray!

5. Does not affect rim removal or tire change.

Cons

1. rubs after market exhaust downtubes upon shock compression. (so far laser n leo vince pipes touch).

2. Hard to clean if you have side pannier brackets. I dunno why i always get my hand cut :giddy:

3. erm... can't think of anymore liaos :cheeky:

Maybe KOMA can review more since we ordered together?

Ride hard & safe...
