Wow...very nice to find so many VFR riders in this very long post. I'm new here and I would like to say hi to all

 

I'm currently riding a 2002 VFR800 w/o ABS w/ side panniers. Done 35K click so far. This is more of a "posuer" bike for me i should say haha....very seldom do I go on long trips and due to some occassional overseas posting, therefore the mileage manage to stay so low.

 

I am actually having a few problems with the bike. Not sure if any of you guys can help me out with it.

 

 

a) My rear wheel seem to be swaying a little when i go at above 120km/h. I change my wheel bearings not long ago but still having this problem.

 

b) My rear suspension is squeeking. No idea why.

 

c) When i peddle backwards, there is also a squeeking sound..no idea where its coming from. Seems like from chain but its well oiled.

 

Any of you have any experience with the above? So far the maintaince I've done is only changing of plug,engine/clutch brake fluid oil,oil filter and sprocket & chain. Any recommendation on the type of maintainance to do at the mileage I am having now? Or do you guys have any good mechanics to recommend? Guess the motorshop I am going to ain't providing me with enough technical support to solve my problems. I am actually thinking of selling this bike soon if I can't really solve this above problems. Getting a little "tired" of it and also I've got difficulty sourcing for accessories for this bike.

 

If you guys do know of any solution to the problem I have above, do share it with me. Thanks

i) Check your tyres condition and pressure - worn tyre and too low pressure is not good.

ii) Check your damping setting.

 

These two can result in slight weaving especially on a long bend like on the Benjamin Shear Bridge at the speed.

 

b) My rear suspension is squeeking. No idea why.

i) Try repacking grease into the lower linkage plate and arm bearings - there are 4 of them. You need to remove them to do so. About 30 mins job.

 

c) When i peddle backwards, there is also a squeeking sound..no idea where its coming from. Seems like from chain but its well oiled.

i) Might come from the brake caliper. The brake pad touches the rotor disk slightly when brake is not applied. To test, if this is true press against the caliper to create a gap between the pad and disk rotor. Roll the bike back and forth again. If the sound is gone, then thats the source of the squeal. No real need for convern, its "like that one la".

Can't help you with the issues you are facing since I am clueless when it comes to bike problems. I always go to stamford on the 5th level of AMK auto point. (AMK ind park 2). Guy is called Alex. Very knowledgable but he works quite slow. Anyway, you can visit him and ask for opinion.

 

Other service centres are looi's and unity but have not tried those myself.

I change both the fork oil, brake and clutch fluid annually. cost only $13 for 1L of the PJ1 10wt fluid - enuf for both fork (473 cc ea) and $7.00 for the brake fluid from Mobil (500cc) enuf for all the hydraulic lines. Workmanship $0 (DIY).
