Hi Bros,

Newbie to cigars. I'm planning to get a box of 5 to 10 cigars soons, but as i'm an occasional smoker i'll need to store them reasonably well.

I read from http://www.cigars.com that the humidors bring control the humidity to +/- 60%, so i'm guessing this is the "ideal" level? As I certainly don't plan to get a humidor now, i wondering if i can keep it in my camera dry box? It's electronically controlled to about 50% now, but i should be able to get it to 60%. Any ideas?

Thanks william.

Another question. As i'm buying from overseas, i'll need to declare them to customs right?

Anyone know what the average 12cm cigar like the Cohiba Siglo2 weighs? I'm guessing 10 to 20gs. I found out that duty is S$293/kg!

Hi Jock,

the answers to your questions.

humidity is best at 65 - 75% and temp about 20 C

dont be too worried about storing a handful of cigars, as long as you dont leave them in the open in an airocn room which is too dry, you can simply put them in a ziplock bag or tupperware. Singapore is blessed with rather high humidity as you know.

Siglo IIs (petite Corona size) will weigh no more than 10 gm per stick and yes the tax is $293per kg. Also there is GST applicable. If I were you I wont be bothered to buy overseas unless in bulk. Tobacco allowance is 400gm per person anyway so that is about 1.5 boxes of Robusto size cigars or about 35 sticks.

If you are a newbie in cigars, I recommend that you dont buy 10 sticks of the same brand and size. also dont start with Cohibas, even though they may be good. Try perhaps a Romeo Y Julieta Exhibicion No. 4. At $26 per stick locally, it is a good smoke that will rival the Cohiba anytime. Dont need to buy 5 or 10 since you dont smoke often. buy singles and try different cigars for the clend, taste, size and aroma.

hope i answered you questions.

Thanks for the reply Throttle.

I've tried a few in the past, i didn't particularly like Cohibas. I'm thinking of Monte no2 or 4 if it's available. Do you know what they cost in Sgp?

In terms of storage, just keep them in a tupperware but where? Dry box, fridge?

BTW, i just with customs at the airport and they said that there's no longer any tax exemption for tabacco. :(

keep in tupperware and leave it in room temp. not in a fridge.

Monte 2s are $36 each and Monte 4s are $19 each.

Seems like the only one from Monte you can smoke is the Monte 2. Was told that the rest dropped in quality over the recent years especially the Monte 4. I know a place selling it for 14 bucks a piece.

HAHA.... know it's a bit late to reply to this old msg but there's a shop at the Furama Waterfront Hotel. They open only after 4 pm up till about 11pm. Check it out. I just been there yerterday night. Wanted to check out prices only but ended up buying a Hoyo double corona and another one (I forgot the branding). Damn.... saving my double corona for my upcoming trip to frasers.... In the balcony over looking the mountains having a warm cup of tea with my cigar.... Man... the life.

Hey Throttle, forgive me for not calling when i said that i will. Recently, there have been lots of trials goin on in my company and have been working late almost every night. Just go home and plop!

Anyway, you mentioned your cigar supplier is near the King's hotel. Is the shop called Cigar Affair? Been there last night. Nice fella introducing me and teaching me the ways. Had a smoke there with a pot of light japanese tea. I left my cigar there tho as i was heading into malaysia that night and don't want trouble with the customs. Most probably dropping by tonight to collect it. Hope it's the shop you frequent, then maybe we can meet there one day....

Planning to get the Monte 2....
