how about don diego?

Don Diego is alright. light and balance smoke from dominican republic.

Not as flavorful as the general cuban ciger but a nice experience for a novice smoker.

recommended.

im not that big on smokes but occasionally enjoy something mild while single malt, wine and serious beer take chunks out of me.

i have had good experiences with cigar and malt pairing (well arranged by a friend).

so i'll like to explore but slowly and without busting my already bust pockets... i'm thinking of doing a tuppledor for my buddy and i to keep 4 - 6 smokes (ideas from all the different forums).

where can i get macanudos btw and what are those famous nicaraguan, CAO, Gurkha smokes like? i see that they are cheaper...

really appreciate the help.

actually if you are only keeping a few cigars, it is quite fine to put them in a ziplock bag away from light and heat. if you have cedar wood from the boxes you can also throw it in as it maintains the aroma of cigars better.

Singapore's humidity is already quite high at about 80++% on a normal day room temp.

Macanudos and other non cubans are carried more by Oaks and Davidoff.

They are not necessarily cheaper.

Cubans are still my recommendation ultimately.

Enjoy.

Sorry if digging up an old thread is considered a rude gesture but i can't seem to find any other cigar smoking communities around in the net.

Just got into cigar smoking for a few months and am loving it. Just a few questions for discussion again with the local regular cigar smokers. Well, they might be asked before, but 2 years have passed now, so it is fair to talk again. :D

1. Where to buy cigars? Which is the one place that has the largest range; which is the one place that has the most competitive prices?

2. Where to smoke cigars? To me, cigar smoking is really a luxury (unlike habitual smoking), so i'm very particular in the whole experience; the location and the food or drinks that i have in company with the cigar. Personally i like a quiet place, some wine/live band bars by the river (boat quay, etc), some quite coffee houses by in the quiet spots of town. I also tried the Cigar Divan in UE square but it is ALWAYS fully reserved on fridays and weekends.

So, any location or secret havens to share? :)

3. What do you guys usually like with your cigars? I know some take whisky with cigars but i personally don't like a strong drink with my cigar. I pefer a sweet or fruity white wine (or ice wine laggi best), sometimes fruit juice and iced mocha. :thumb:

Sorry, i revise my first question. I do know some local tobacconist. What i wanted to know is if you guys got any personal favourite shops with the widest range or cheapest prices. So far i regular Oaks (orchard) for their good service.

These are the places i know where you can get cigars:

1. Takashimaya level 2, Davidoff

The are one of the cheaper stores i reckon, with regular promos and discounts. Sometimes taka's storewide discounts also apply to Davidoff sales. However, the staff have almost zero knowledge. Don't think they know much about what they are selling.

2. Orchard Parade Hotel, Ground level (beside starbucks), Oak Cellers

This is the store that i frequent these days. Good range of products, reasonable prices and very knowledgable staff. Not much promos through, especially if you buy singles.

3. Suntec City, Level 1, Habanos

Good range, big shop and reasonable price. I didn't really like the service there though. Perhaps she thought a young boy like me have not much purchasing power so she was a little snappy. Her very different attitude towards another caucasian who entered after me sort of validated my assumption. Since then, never went that place again.

4. UE Square, Ground level, Connoisseur Divan (http://www.connoisseurdivan.com)

This is a cigar bar. Only been there once, the prices are a little higher, about 10% more? However, they have a very big range of products, i read that they are actually the distributor in Singapore. The staff are quite lao jiao and provides very good service. It's a really nice place to smoke your cigar with good music and drinks. Do reserve a place if you wanna visit this place on a friday night or weekends, it gets really full.

4. Chinatown, 2nd level of a shophouse, Oldecuban (http://www.oldecuban.com)

Unlike Connoisseur Divan, this cigar bar features more indoors smoking. Really beautiful place with a sexy waitress serving alcohol and coffees :D Price wise, like Con Divan, slightly higher. The staff are also very experienced and friendly, no age discrimination, although they were quite surprised initially (like many others) to see a new young guy checking out their place. Reserve your place on friday nights and weekends, they are very popular.

5. Mandarin Gallery, Level 3, Oaks Cellars

Classic Oaks Cellars, good range of wines and cigars. Haven't step in the store so i can't judge on the service and knowledge of their staff. But based on other oaks experience, i believe they will do just as well.

6. Regent Hotel, Ground level, Lacasa Cubana (http://www.lacasacubana.com/)

Haven't been there but i have read a lot of people singing praises of this store, seems good.

7. Furama Riverfront Hotel, Cigar Affair (http://www.cigaraffairasia.com/)

Haven't been there. They boast to offer the best prices... CAUTION: I have read that they had been caught selling fake limited edition cigars before. Read more about this here: http://www.samie.me/2009/11/cigars-affair-at-furama-riverfront.html

8. Tanglin Mall, Oaks Cellers

??? Read somewhere that there is shop there, no idea if it still exists.

You can try a Cuaba. They cost about $18~25, depending on the size you get. Cigar smoking can be quite an art and hobby, just like wine, coffee and whisky. You might take some time to learn how to enjoy and differentiate, but after you become better at it, you will get hooked onto one of the most expensive consumption hobby.

Personally, with the NSF pay i'm getting, i can only afford to smoke about 1 cigar every week. But sometimes i feel that the desire and limitation also contributes to the enjoyment. Now, a good cigar with a glass of sweet and light white wine is what i'm looking forward every week. :D

Where did you get yours from?

I am a newbie myself :cheeky:

I smoked a wonderful big boy's Montecristo no.2 piramide today. Really enjoyed it, very heavy and full bodied smoke but i think it was a little too much for a newb like me. I actually felt kind of sick after that, nausea and strong heartbeats. Came back and googled, it was actually one of those 'cigar sickness' from the powerpack nicotine.:(

You should check this out:

Do google some newbie tips for smoking cigar to make your first experience a more pleasant one. We could meet up for a smoke someday soon, PM me your number.

Anyone else who are interested can leave me a msg too. :)

well done.

we have an online forum made up of mostly singaporean cigar smokers from many wlaks of life.

We congregate for a smoke every Saturday from 9pm to 2am at one of the joints mentioned above.

favourites include connoiseur divan at UE sq (live band and old friends, full selection and great location)

and olde cuban at Chinatown (old friends and very easy going) and La casa at the regent (old friends and rare cigars with many supercar owners)

I personally will not go to Cigar Affair at Furama.
