Had a Magnum 50 Limited Edition 2005, nice and light surprisingly...smooth, not too spicy. Also tried a Monte 2 torpedo which was light at the start and ended with a nice tangy, citrus twist at the end. Was quite surprised as it tasted different from normal Monte 2. No painful episode of watching my cigar fall apart this time! :cheer:

There're too many cigars I haven't tried yet to go revisiting the cigars that I have.

Haven't had a cigar for quite a while. Been nursing yet another case of flu. Hope to be in good condition for Wed's Lusi night!

The factual evolution of Cohiba (according to Fidel Castro in an interview in 1994)

Castro: I'll tell you something about the Cohiba. The Cohiba did not exist as a brand in Cuba. But one man who used to work for me as a bodyguard, I used to see the man smoking a very aromatic, very nice cigar, and I asked him what brand he was smoking. He told me that it was no special brand, but that it came from a friend who makes cigars and he gave them to him. I said, let's find this man. I tried the cigar, and I found it so good that we got in touch with him and asked him how he made it. Then, we set up the house [the El Laguito Factory], and he explained the blend of tobacco he used. He told which leaves he used from which tobacco plantations. He also told us about the wrappers he used and other things. We found a group of cigar makers. We gave them the material, and that was how the factory was founded. Now Cohiba is known all over the world. That was over 30 years ago

Was Trinidad the brand of cigars that Fidel gave to diplomatic visitors and guests?

Many people thought so.......here's the truth....from Fidel himself (excerpt from Cigar Aficionado 1994)

==================================================

Shanken: Trinidad. We understand that it is a brand of cigar that is your own personal brand, which you give to diplomats and friends as presents.

Castro: No. I principally give Cohibas for presents.

Shanken: You don't give Trinidads?

Castro: No. I don't give Trinidads. I give Cohibas. I have been advising the people who are in charge of tobacco production, Cubatabaco, that they should come up with new brands and new blends. This would help the situation with the conflicts over the brands [with similarly named cigar brands from such countries as the Dominican Republic and Honduras]. If we have the best raw material, we have the best soils and the best know-how, why shouldn't we create new brands?

Shanken: The El Laguito factory has a brand called Trinidad, which they say is for you to give as personal gifts. It has become a legend.

Castro: I am not fully aware of that brand, but I assume it is like the Lancero in size from Cohiba.

so now we know.......

Excellent turnout last night. Gerard and Vince, we'll see you guys in more gatherings in the future. Hope that the rest of us did not overwhelm you guys in "cigar-talk".

Last night was another example of the inconsistency of cuban cigars. Five of us were smoking the same cigars out of the same box, and the flavours we got were quite different.

Hi entity,

It was nice hanging out with you guys and smokin' cigars and drinking tea.

Yeah, I am looking forward to meetup the next session.

I have been enjoying the conversation and learnt quite a handful of knowledge from you guys.

Till we meet again guys.

Just felt like a lunchtime smoke today and smoked a Cuaba Generosos.

It is a short cigar. I smoked it in less than 1 hour. For those of you who know how slow I smoke, you'd know that that is rather short by my standards. It's not a very complex cigar. Partagas-y (excluding P2s) flavours of wood, hint of saltiness, caramel sweetness for the first half, turning more full-flavoured laced with bits of white pepper and a little earth in the second half. Very very enjoyable. So much so that I'm thinking of getting a box of Cuabas for my next purchase.

Nightstalker, my condolences on you not enjoying your lusi.

Part of the mystique of cigar-smoking comes from not knowing how your cigar will turn out. There was a period of time when I was disappointed with 90% of the cigars I smoked; and I'm just refering to the flavours. But when least expected, I get one of the 10% that I truly enjoy. And this makes it all worthwhile.

That is also the reason why consistency is so prized among cigar smokers. They want a cigar that they KNOW is good. But as we all can attest to, Cubans like to infuriate and delight in the same measure. And that keeps us wanting more.

Had a R&J Petite Corona after dinner just now...Simple smoke, so simple it seems almost flat, no particular excitement. Not the most interesting smoke but an easy one and quick one..smoking too regularly:sweat: Had a Rymill Coonawara with it..again not the most exciting red one can get
