[Trip Report] Solo Ride to SG-Northern Thai-Laos from 25th July to 4th Aug 2010

Nice trip report, enjoy reading it ;)

I guess a Honda Wave is a much cheaper option since no one can ride fast on such road, and the repair cost are much cheaper. I rent a wave from Chaing Mai to Mae Hong son, drop the bike as I didn't expect the corner just like a U-turn, and the old wave don't have disc break. Have to change the busket and side mirror, all in for 260B at MHS ;)

Also the road from Mae Sai to Chaing Sean is bad, my black jacket become golden color once I reach golden triangle ;)

What the charges for yr repair.
$750GBP for the transmission gearbox, $150GBP to have it shipped to BKK, $20K THB for custom duties etc and $200+SGD for labour to have the gearbox fixed onto my unstoppable GSA.

When did u venture the northern part of Thai? Was this a recent trip? Mae Sai to CSaen was really horrible and unpassable when i went back then. U mean its still unpaved????

Yeah the Wave can do a better job nonetheless when you are further up. If only the Wave can fit into my side pannier...

yup yup ...at least not for the next 2 years.... I was more fortunate because of the dry spell a few weeks ago, after seeing that road imho the only way thru is using a scram during wet wheather or make a u-turn and go by changmai
