hey peeps,

i'm interested in diving n world love to go see the world underwater.. but the problem is i'm not good at swimming.. and most of the courses offered stated must be able to thread water and swim a few metres.. There will be test conducted right? if i fail that, i would not be able to take the course n my 400plus fee burnt.. any suggestions? i heard if go tioman take no need this requiremtn but can still get the license.. right?

hi...i wouldn't recommend you take any short cuts when it comes to getting your diving certificate. frankly, the tests are quite straightforward and i am sure with some training, anyone will be able to pass them confidently.

bear in mind that diving schools are not here to fail you, rather, they want to make sure you pass so you will go on dive trips with them over time.

furthermore, taking short cuts means you will continue to not have any water confidence...how enjoyable will your dives be if that is the case?

so...just go for it...train...and you will have no problems passing and gaining your water confidence. i find that confidence makes the whole experience so much better.

all the best!

All I can say is that don't become a dive incident statistic.

I agree with the comment above that you should not be looking for any short-cuts since U are the one going to be in the water and any attempts to skip the swim test will not be beneficial to U.

however...I personally feel that the swim test is not meant to test your swimming skills....it is meant to test your water confidence level. As long as U can get from 1 end of the pool to the other end...U pass the swimming part....no restrictions on the style used and no time limit....meaning U can basically do back stroke and float yourself to the other side slowly.Breast stroke/frog style also can.

as for the trap water part...the idea is to keep ur head/nose over water for 10minutes...so U can alternate between trapping water and back stroke(without stroke).I have seen a lady clear it by just floating on her back alone.

there...its not THAT difficult isnt it?....they are not training NDU divers....:cheeky:

If U can form group of course can get better price...but not able to give U a price here because I am not operating a dive centre...U want I can make recommendations but I will not post it here because it is personal recommendation...not sales pitch.

Group is definitely the bigger the better....as long as U people can fix a weekend trip(Friday evening to Sunday night)...the rest of the course(theory and pool) can be more flexible since people have different schedules...but do cater enough time to finish the theory and pool before going on trip.

Theory-wise I think it is now being done online so there is no real big issue on it...not sure if they require U to come in dive shop and see training video or not...this one U have to find out....Pool-session is usually 2 pool sessions on weekday evenings...approx 7pm to 9pm per session....so going by my schedule last time....Monday and Wednesday go dive shop for theory(my time no online training)....tuesday and thursday go pool....friday evening leave for trip to one of the malaysian islands...Pulau Tioman...Dayang....Aur....depending on what U want.

Groups I have seen are colleagues...school/classmates....army friends...not yet a forum group....should be quite interesting to see it really come to fruit....:cheeky:

Receive this email sometime back.. probably might interest some of you. For more info, email Roy. I dunno him and is not advertising for him.

Dive season is back again.

This deal is especially good for the busy professionals, parents with kids who can't afford to go on a weekend trip.

I am organising a 1 day, 2 tank dive trip, 20 km off the coast of JB, in the S.China sea in April.

Underwater, you'll get......come and find out! If you are a lazy, pampered diver, save some time, buy a DVD on sea animals and watch. Else, get ready for an adventure. The last trip, one diver was................ : )

On land, you'll get:

1. Transport, 2 ways. (from Singapore, and back)

2. Lunch

3. Water

4. Dinner (You'll never guess what's on the menu, here's a clue, it's illegal to eat this in Singapore. But then, it is ok to eat this in JB.) : )

If we have some time, we'll stop by for you to do some shopping, dried ikan bilis, chinchalok, keropok, etc.

The price is SGD$165 per diver. Looking for 15 leisure divers. Must be aged 16 years and above. Participants below the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Non diving adult pay SGD$95 each. We'll give you a fishing rod and net. Who knows? you could catch something for dinner. : )

So, hurry, what you waiting for. Take action and write in now!
