Honestly, Singapore diving is pretty limited.. Apart from Pulau Hantu (low visibiility) and if you are unlucky enough to get caught in the wrong side of the current - good luck!!

Have u dived Sg before ?

Diving is done in other parts of Singapore apart from Pulau Hantu....just that perhaps they are not common...

I know Friendly Waters do bring divers out near Pulau Sudong...just that I dont think its a regular trip out for them...not sure if its because of demand or regulation....

people who dun mind shore dives do it on East Coast beach....:cheeky:

What are the odds of having two punctures, on the same tyre, on separate occasions, in a 223km ride?:dozed:

There's a pre WW2 wreck near Sudong, but due to sea traffic, vis and current, trips are only a few rare ones. They usually do it during off peak when the dive boat can't go up north.

i've seen people try their snorkelling gear at Tanjong Beach, but none at East Coast yet.

The good people at http://www.pulauhantu.org did a survey wall dive (as requested by the marina folks at Keppel Marina. Yielded surprisingly rich life, especially since the whole area was reworked pretty recently.

Pulau Dayang. Is it a nice place to dive ?

define "nice".

4hrs boat ride from mersing....compared to 2hrs for Tioman...both for 1-way.

no provision shop there....facilities very basic....Pulau Aur(right opposite) better bathing facilities...

Whats the best month to go ?

dive season is now on...U can go now.

if U are feeling adventurous...U can try going just before season closes for the monsoon or if U can wait....until the next dive season just opens...these would be the period that is anyone's guess on what might be underwater...U might see very nice things...or just get very big waves...:cheeky:

hihi guys.. i'm also a diver but haven noticed this thread until i ventured here.. ha.. i was at both Pulau Aur and Pulau Dayang the past two weeks.. sadly the dive sites are not as magnificent as before as the reefs are really affected by global warming.. (or maybe divers who cant control their bouyancy well :cheeky:) both resorts still look and feel the same to me.. except Pulau Dayang doesnt have the tasty icing sugar doughnuts anymore.. only Pulau Aur has.. ha.. tink i speak too much.. ha.. just intro-ing myself to the dive thread.. :)

oh by the way.. to xcert.. both my trips to Aur/Dayang both took about 2-3hrs boat ride from mersing.. maybe i was lucky to hitch a ride on the fast boats.. heh.. kijang, island express, bluewater express..

I see....I guess its the kind of boat that I was in....or its just my weight....:cheeky:

The ferry boat that I used from Mersing to Dayang/Aur is usually the dive boat from the resort that I stayed in...cant remember the name of the boat but I dont think it has the "express" word anywhere...

ha.. i'm not DM or above.. only AOWD.. :cheeky: just happened so that my two trips thr was planned consecutively cuz of the dates of the trips and my friends.. in any case, thr is a few resorts on the aur.. the atlantis bay resort.. the one with no jetty.. low tide gotta wade in.. another one tt is stacked along the hillside.. ha.. connected to atlantis bay via a small bridge thru the rocks.. and another one on the opposite side of the island.. which i heard is quite rundown already.. den dayang has one only.. so yea..

tink we usually take the dive boats we use to go to the island.. tioman has more services cuz of the amount of tourists on the island.. sadly.. for both places.. the reefs are obviously dying off.. global warming and careless divers? :(

Hmm.. I'm not so sure about dive centres in Singapore. But I guess you can try: http://www.gilldivers.com/

Thank you. I hooked up with some divers in the scuba forum and I just got back from my first Singapore-Tioman Island dive trip. It was lovely but more of a fun dive, there's not much to see though. But I did met some friendly lads and make a few good mates on the trips. I didnt ride there because all the expenses were already included in my trip. However, I gathered it's not feasible to ride there and park your bike at the ferry terminal. The only way to ride and dive from Singapore is at Hantu Island. From what I heard, this is a terrible site to dive, I am yet to try it.

why not check it out before passing any judgement on Pulau Hantu ? Too many local divers do that before even going there.

http://www.pulauhantu.org

True that visibility is generally below 5m and the water tends to be silty, but this is because of the sea traffic in the Singapore Straits and the reclaimation in the area.

Its silty bottom also makes diving there a little more demanding, you should have reasonable bounyancy skills and proper finning techniques. This is to prevent kicking up the silt.

Enough said about the difficulties, PH has its own diverse collect of corals and other marine life. I have personally encountered turtles, cuttlefishes, frogfishes, sea snakes, seahorses, nudis (many of which I've not seen in Aur/Dayang and Tioman), blue spotted rays and even nurse sharks on more than one occassion.

It really depends on what you want to see, the likelihood of a whaleshark or gigantic mantas are extremely low at Hantu, given the visibility and sea traffic. I definitely wouldn't recommend following anything big there into shipping channels. That being said, there have been dugong and dolphin sightings around the southern islands. Including, sadly, a dolphin carcass at labrador park a couple of years ago.

If you really want to check out the marine life at Hantu, I'd recommend going there with the Hantu Blog and other conservation societies instead of commercial companies. They usually have better guides and knowledge of the marine life. Although I must agree that some commercial packages are pretty attractive (2dives plus bbq lunch).

Enough being said, the next dive with the Hantu Blog to PH is on 27th June. All this talking abt Hantu has made me miss it again. Anyone ?

P.S. please read about the Blog Dives here http://www.pulauhantu.org/dive-with-us/ before deciding if you want like to come along

I did LOB around the area....leave SG Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal on Friday night...return to the same terminal on Sunday night....no stamp passport because neber set foot into malaysia mainland...but still must bring passport to leave SG...

LOB more relaxing in the sense that everything is done on the boat....no need to change tank because charging of the tank is also done on the boat....no need to carry tanks up from under the benches...hee,hee

I dunno about U guys but when I bath on land when I just return from boat diving....I get this rocking feeling....no such problem with LOB...rock all the way...haha
