haha, totally not... jurong west... but i rly rly wanna come back to fishing, when i was in indonesia i took a boat once to fish, n i caught a lobster! hehe! any place near east coast there that sells fishing equipments? i'm gg to east coast tmr

Hmmm, a little tips for you when selecting equipment.. Sry im noob too, so bros, correct me if im wrong... =D

When selecting a Rod, depends on what u're looking for.. i guess its for 'normal' fishing, and not boat fishing or fly casting...

1) Flexibility of the rod.

The more flexible it is, the more sensitive it is. More flexible also means a better fight i guess. But warning! Might break if not handled properly...

2) Lenght of Rod.

this depends on where u're going to fish and what u're planning to fish.

If you're planning to fish at jetties, you dont need a rod that is that long.. probably 5-7 feet rod is good enough..

If u're planning to fish from the shore or coast breakers, den u'll be needing a long rod, probably 9ft onwards...

Next would be reels...

I assume u'd be buying those spinning reels and not the drumbs..

honestly, reels i dun really know how to see.. :cheeky: usually what i'd do is:

1) see design of a reel, see if u like it...

2) This is the most important step. See the price! see if its resonable.

3) check the gear ratio, 5.2:1 and above is usually considered high speed reels... below that, low speed reels which i believe is good for luring...

4) test the strength of the drag... this is the part where i scard the shop unle will scold.. Lol.. to test the drag, tighten the drag unil its 70% tight, den twise the spool, see if it is lose. den tighten to abt 80% and twise again. some good reels is VERY tight even if its 90% tighten... den go all the way t 100 loh. At 100%, make sure its impossible for the spool to turn.. this would mean that your reel is more or less capabale of landing a big fish...

5) See the brand too... Good brands are like Shimano, Daiwai, Rapala.. above avg brands to me would be PT, TICA, DAM?... Avg brands would be Sure catch that kind... But do note, even SureCatch do have solid reels! unlimately it all depends on ur budget.. =D

Oh yes! do check the line capacity as well!

Then u'll be needing Fishing line!

Once again, the line depends on how u're fishing...

If you're Luring, you will want a line poundage that is low, so its more sensitive and u can practically feel and control ur lure.. Eg: 7pounds - 13pounds? I THINK..

If u're doing boat fishing often, u'll be needing a higher poundage.. Eg: 30 - 40pounds line.. seldom i see SG Anglers with a 50lb main line...

if you're doing jetty/shore fishing, then 20lb - 30lb would be sufficent.. personally i'd use 30lb... very versitile i find, can shore/offshore no prob.

Then it comes to what TYPE of fishing line..Monoline or braided line... Monoline is cheaper, but the prob is that it easily get "birdnest", meaning attangled. usiing monoline can be very fustrating sometimes... and usually, u'll end up wasting alot of lines...

Braided lines are most expensive compared to mono. However, its hassle free! no birdnest will be formed or anything.. and its stronger and thinner as well...

If you bought a reel that comes with the line, it is advisable to change the line as well.. they usually wont give u good lines...

Alright! with that u'll have a complete fishing set liao.. =D
