Hi, i am a newbie here in this forum. Although i created this acc on june, but i still noob =.=l.

Anyway, just any kind soul can give me some answers to my questions.

1 - Just wodering, i wanted to purchase a CLASS 2A bike here, and any guidance on when i go for viewing/test ride, what things should i look out for? Which parts on the bike should i look out for if i am viewing a super 4 / CBR ?

2 - If i confirm want to purchase that bike already, i pay full cash, but i still dunt have the licence cause i am still awaiting for my TP, is it possible to have it as a lay-up on my carpark? If it is possible, then how to assure that my bike wunt get stolen back by the owner that i bought from? Is it possible to ask the seller to cancel his ownership first? And wait till i have my licence and i go do my ownership alone at LTA?

Need some advise. =((

Hi!

To your question 1:

- Check out for the general condition of the bike. Whether there are many rusted parts, worn out parts (Tires, brake pads, etc), exposed cabling, major scratches, bent parts or just plain dirty (Might be an indicator that the owner do not take care of the bike)

- Any irregularities with idling, revving and riding. (Issues with worn out, old spark plugs are common)

- Weak signals, headlight and horns. An indicator of weak battery, generator and/or rectifier. Could be spark plugs too.

- Ask about his/her regular maintenance on the bike. (The more common questions asked will be the type of EO used, type of sparkies used, distance before air filter is cleaned/replaced, do he/she regularly pump the tires, etc)

- Any other products/improvements that is mounted on the bike. Know about what they do, find out about them (The net is your friend)

- That is about all that I can think of now.

To answer your 2nd question,

- Get your licence 1st. It'll make things all the more easier to do and you'll have the luxury of time to see the bikes you wanna get and might in time, change your opinion. Haste make waste, as they say.

Technically you are able to register a vehicle without a licence. LTA allows this but transfering of vehicle would requires you to have a valid motor insurance which in turn, needs a valid licence. However, if you can prove that you are not going to use the vehicle after the transfer (i.e before TP test), I believe that LTA would allow you to lay up the vehicle which the requirements are stated below,

Q: How do I apply for lay up / non-user status of my vehicle?

A:

Duly completed M05 form (Application to lay up a vehicle/change of garage address for laid-up vehicle) and submit your application with the necessary supporting documents, as advised on the form, to LTA Counter, 2nd storey, 10 Sin Ming Drive. A non-refundable fee of $5.35 (inclusive of GST) is payable for each application.

The M05 form (Application to lay up a vehicle/change of garage address for laid-up vehicle) is available from our Information Counter at 10 Sin Ming Drive, Singapore 575701. You can also download the form from the portal http://www.onemotoring.com.sg. Please note that Acrobat Reader, which is available at the website, is required in order to view the form. Supporting documents required:

Registered owner’s ID document (e.g. original NRIC for Singaporean and Malaysian, original passport for foreigner other than Malaysian). If registered owner is a company, the authorised person must produce his/her original NRIC (Singaporean & Malaysian) or passport (foreigner other than Malaysian) and an original authorisation letter from the company. The letter should be signed by at least a manager of the company;

Submitter’s original NRIC (Singaporean & Malaysian) or Passport (foreigner other than Malaysian);

Supporting document to show proof that permission has been obtained from the premise owner to allow the vehicle to be parked at the said premise during the entire lay up period (if the premise does not belong to the registered owner);.

Letter from workshop confirming that the vehicle is under repair at their premise (if the declared garage address is in Malaysia);

Road Tax disc (if available); and

Payment of $5.35 (inclusive of GST).

A lay up vehicle cannot be used or kept on public road or place. In your application, you will be required to declare to LTA the place where the vehicle is to be garaged during the entire lay up period. Please inform LTA in writing prior to any change of garage address, as it is an offence not to do so.

Please note that the lay up/non-user status of the vehicle will take effect the day after submission of the application (unless a future date is otherwise stated). Any outstanding road tax and applicable late payment fee before the lay up commencement date is payable.

A period of 1 year (max) or shorter, as determined by the Registrar, may be granted for a lay up application. Please note that a vehicle can only be laid up for 3 consecutive years. If the vehicle is not re-licensed by the third year, it will be de-registered automatically at the end of the third year. Once a vehicle is de-registered, it will not be allowed to be re-registered or re-licensed. The owner will have to show documentary evidence of disposal within 1 month of de-registration of the vehicle.

Please apply for lay up before the road tax expires. Late fee will be imposed once the vehicle road tax has expired.

My suggestion however is, unless your TP test is next year. There isn't really a need to buy a bike before it and a total waste of time and money. You could take the time to view more vehicles that you might be interested in, who knows? There might be a better offer waiting for you at the Used Bike Sales section.

To reiterate, haste make waste.

If you see a bike you like at the right price and condition, no reason not to get it first and lay up. Unless you are looking for a more common bike. Some class2A bikes are really hard to find.
