You should have gone across and introduced yourself....

Pls be more constructive in your response.

The stalling problem can be due to multiple reasons and can happen to any FI bikes or car.

Like Lo-on has explained, that is this known issue due to the mis-calibration or faulty TPS.

Other probable cause could be over lean idle CO2 setting. For those facing the problem, pls bring the bike to HL for diagnostic. It is a problem that can be solved.

ur post serve no purpose.. when ppl are asking for advice..

brothers....no advice can be given...i have done all method....from the simple like turning out the air screw to calibration, tps, etc...better but still stall.....trust me brothers.....

BUT not all of the 07/08 defected by this stall problem....maybe like 50-50...uhhmmm im not sure....

in my group, there are 6 bikes (07-08)....5 stall....1 is perfect....

Are your solutions done by the official yamaha agent or DIY?

When my 04 had stalling probs related to the TPS, agents can only tell you to change the TPS. Parts replacement is SOP for most, if not all agents. Change this part, replace that part, change change change, replace replace replace. Spend spend spend.

Some ppl who changed the TPS got the same problem back a few months later. Cos the problem was inherent in the TPS itself. You swap out a problematic TPS with the same part-number item back in.... the problem will recur sooner or later right?

I rather DIY. Together with a friend, I opened up the bike, used GT85 on/in the TPS. And after that, the problem never came back all they way.

Cash spent: $0. Time spent: 4hrs.

If I had used the "agent fix" I would have probably left it there on a weekend and collected it the next and spent over $200 for sure.

The new 08 bikes should be under warranty right?

Correct. But does the warranty cover parts replacement? Or just labor?

And how long is the warranty for a Yamaha?

IIRC for my 04 R1 and my 08 FZ1, 6000k or 6 months whichever comes first.

Some problems don't manifest themselves until slightly later. Then how?

Also, must check if Yamaha recognizes the problem as a recallable defect that is to be remediated FOC.

The TPS problem then was not known or acknowledged by them. So whoever went to have it serviced, warranty or not, had to pay for parts.

calibration, tps setting and change, etc...all done by official yamaha japan mechanic, with standard tool and equipment they bring from japan, request by us, we pay the japan-indo flight include the accomodation and bla bla bla.... spent a lot money in this situation....bike not stall for approx 1 month, after that stall again, even with the less frequency than before....give up....

Anyone of you actually tried "cleaning up" the TPS internals using contact cleaners?

RE: TPS

My friend has clocked 15,000km on his 08, so far no stalling.

Mine 8,500km also no issues with TPS. Initially if some of you can recall, i complained of my bike stalling at track, but after I adjusted the clutch free-play, I have never encountered stalling.

Anyway, Im going to order some Made in China abs plastics for the new bike sometime soon. Will update with pics and give a review, since I too am skeptical about China products. Should I go with the FIAT or matt black look?

Looks like you guys got all the lemons....

Back to the technical details on troubleshooting technique:

Do not change everything at 1 go. Do it one at a time so that you can pin point to the correct root cause.

The stall issue could also be due to multiple causes. So you cannot have a single solution to the problem. Treat every case as a separate issue.

The fact that your bike did not stall for 1 month means that 1 of the solution worked but due to some external issues like dusty environment or substandard TPS part, it came back.

The TPS thing is a hit-or-miss thing. You either get it or you don't. If you do, tough luck.
