The boss is there upstair in thier office which i have seen a few already....

Maybe like wat u have said, it a new bike tat why...and just like when u buy any appliances and when it spoil, if u dun call in the warranty provider to repair for u, the warranty will void...

u seem to know the boss well, how about u telling him that he should sell them at recommended price n not higher.

Castrol 4-T recommended prices at this website http://www.castrol.com.sg/eng/3-1-2-motorcycle-1.shtml

We all knows that motor shop always selling them lower than recommended price by manufacturer n that's all i'm asking for, thanks.

I prefer other brands like rock oil, respol or silkolene full synthetics oil and they all sells below $20 per litre bottle but choong kok only sells castrol.

I visit Choong Kok JE cause I live in that area. I also feel that the price of R4 engine oil is too high, but it seems that still have a lot of pple going there for maintenance. Service wise not bad, the mech are quite helpful but maybe not too knowledgeable about more advance stuff.

I think Daelim is tied up with Castrol regarding using only Castrol oil for their bikes. hence maybe castrol will supply them more cheaply the oil.

I tried Castrol Power 1 4T

Recommended price: S$13.40

Choong Kok price: S$16/17

Overall all prices are above market price. Have to talk to the lady boss in JE and amaybe reflect the unhappiness of most customers. hopefully they can offer more competitive price for regulars like us.

ok, now back to fuel consumption for roadwin.

especially now fuel price for shell98 up from S$1.402(April) to S$1.438(May) to S$1.488(May,3rd wk) per liter.

So far this is my recording;

Date____Odo__Trip__Gas____Km/l __Remarks

01/04___180__-----__09.13__------ __1st top up

17/04___500__320__08.38__38.19__throttling to 4k engine rpm during pickup.

01/05___893__393__10.45__37.61__throttling to 5k engine rpm during pickup.

13/05__1267__374__10.36__36.10__throttling to 6k engine rpm during pickup.

24/05__1654__387__09.81__39.45__back to normal 4~5k pickup.

Average fuel consumption now is 37.79 km/l. :thumb:

Next round will see whether Broquet fuel catalyst really work or not.

Just drop in Broquet B/2T pack into the tank n top up full tank.

Hi pat,

Castrol Power 1 4T grade is 10W-30, this grade is too thin n not recommended.

Even though it does no harm but u feel your engine will run pretty rough.

Currently most manufacturer will recommend 10W-40 grade for our climate.

bcos choong kok don't have any of 10W-40 grade, so I made do with R4 which is 10W-50.

Just a thought for u.

ok, after yesterday fuel top up n drop in the broquet.

rode back in less than 200m n park overnight.

this morning started the engine, definitely engine run more responsively.

after warm up, able to move off at slightly below the usual engine rpm (indicates engine power is better).

rode all the way to work about 12 km away, engine response r better during pickup.

fuel consumption will have to wait until jun 6, then will know the effects of broquet.

engine rpm idle about 100 revolution lower than norm 1.2k, now drop to 1.1k.

have to do press start button n twist throttle to start up, b4 didn't have to.

going up slope can sustain at same engine rpm, usually will lower a bit n have to increase throttle.

pickup speed slightly increased in power as more constant rev. upwards rpm.

more reports on broquet outcome.

Regarding engine oil, i have spoken to them in regards to the price and reason why it is higher than what u can get at most petrol station is clear in the sense that they are offering a service to help u change and dispose the used oil, pricing wise is avoidable and common for motorshop to earn little compare to those sell at petrol station or etc...

In regard to the customers, there is a lots of old customers going back to change oil with them as I m one of them who visited them quite offen and have seen with my own eyes many old customers...for a few dollars more, some might be very wary with the additional cost but like wat i have said previously on the changing and disposing of used oil...just treat it as a service charge which even if u change yourself and eventually pass the used oil to any motorshops to help with the dispose also have to pay a small charge too..

Regarding the diff. brand of engine oils, if u feel that a certain brand fancies u in term of price or performance then go ahead and get it...dun think choong kok is going to stop u for using any particular brand. Reason why they have only castrol could be their belief in the reliability provided.

Hope the above helps.

Some update regarding my roadwin.

After dropping the fuel broquet into my fuel tank a week ago, the overall running of the engine become much smoother......no doubt. I can run the engine to a higher rev before changing gear without feeling too much vibration and noise. at high speed also much smoother ride.

Fuel comsumption I havnt done any tabulation, but since i rev higher before changing gears, im afraid fuel consumption will go up.

Power wise not much difference.

how's your broquet performing, sohst?

Pat, if u want to reduce engine vibration use heavier oil like grade 50 or 60.

i saw elf 10W-60 full syn oil on the shelf at LAB, i think grade 60 will definitely reduce vibration greatly.

Anyway my fuel consumption, top up full tank on the 5/Jun:

Date____Odo__Trip__Gas____Km/l __Remarks

01/04___180__-----__09.13__------ __1st top up

17/04___500__320__08.38__38.19__throttling to 4k engine rpm during pickup.

13/05__1267__374__10.36__36.10__throttling to 6k engine rpm during pickup.

24/05__1654__387__09.81__39.45__back to normal 4~5k pickup, drop in broquet.

05/06__2042__388__11.02__35.27__1st tank full run with broquet in tank.

avg. now is 37.24 km/l (see gaslog040605).

well, didn't show any fuel saving. let's hope the next few tanks will indicate otherwise.

power wise, i think the first few days definitely engine is running more efficiently n now used to the efficent it has become norm.

There is also one Choong Kok subsidary at Bukit Batok, Midview buidling.

50 bukit batok st 23, midview building #02-03. Becareful the security guard there, he will try to lead you to another motorshop which i think have some connection with him. the guard also tried to advertise the bikes for that shop when i went there the last time. Though nothing wrong with that shop, i just dun like the way the guard tried to push me to another shop when i asked him about daelim shop.

ANyway, definitely worth a look at roadwin. maybe you can post your feedback after viewing for more interested people.

Spoke to the boss at Jurong East last week and he told me that demand for this bike have been increasing. had 5 shipments into singapore already but i didnt catch how many bikes he mentioned on the road.

Update for roadwin.

have u notice that whenever it rain or run thru a puddle, the front wheel always splash dirt to the engine n all the way up to the top of it n the fuel tank also.

Hate to do cleaning, especially in between cooling fins n top of the engine.

anyway, try finding a fenda extender which is only available for common or big capacity bikes n none for roadwin. even ask choong kok agency, they only have those for cruisers.

so what i did was find a plastic fenda from honda, those cheap type n cut it into the shape that look good, apply a strong n durable double sided tape, thrilled 3 tiny hole at the bottom of the fender n mount it with 3 tap screws (see picture).

today rain heavily, seem like the extended fenda works, only the bottom half of the engine are splashed with dirt.

cost of material: plastic fenda (S$10), 3M durable tape (S$7), tap screws (a pack of 40 qty, S$2).

time for searching material, cutting n mounting takes as a long as u like, for me about 2 weeks.

Next fuel consumption, avg. fuel consumption without broquet is 37.79 km/l.

Installed broquet on 24/05.

Date____Odo__Trip__Gas____Km/l __Remarks

05/06__2042__388__11.02__35.27__1st tank with broquet.

18/06__2551__508__14.13__35.98__2nd tank with broquet.

01/07__3069__518__14.42__35.92__3rd tank with broquet.

Avg. fuel consumption with broquet is 35.76 km/l.

seem like the broquet doesn't work for roadwin, it makes u ride more aggressively thus consumed more fuel.

i wrote to broquet asking for refund n they say to use it at least 3,000 miles for the broquet to works.

I think the broquet could be working, just that you are making use of the increase in power in the form of more acceleration, that's why your fuel consumption remains the same.

Respect man , and its really a nice naked bike. I personally feel that only the price and the brand ( although its getting more popular) is against it.

To sidetrack a bit, been to a subsidary of chong kok, their mechs are ok lah.. average. But their stuffs are genuine and they always advise on the original stuff, so overall charges are high.

broquet is working but in adverse effect to my bike's performance n consumption.

using same riding style, fuel grade shell98 n pump at the same petrol station.

now consumed more fuel then b4, difference is 2 km/litre more fuel consumed using broquet (consistently for 3 tanks n 1415 km).
