Was at PML for the launch.

Apparently only 10 units are headed for Spore.

And dats all for the shipment this year.

Unfortunately, none available for test ride.

The grey is a matt gun mental that looks alot better in the showroom than in photos.

The optional adventure style panniers look awesum on the 800.

The USD forks and 21" & 17" rim size combo will provide agile handling dats for sure!

converting your SW for GS?

yea bro. joining the bimmer family.

just waiting for the correct baby to come along.

pretty interested in the F800GS also.

wondering how it would look like with the panniers on

cheers

Yeh, looks nice huh. I was travelling yesterday but will go up today for a look. Hard to know though if you cannot ride it - a bike can feel a lot different when you ride than when you sit on it in a showroom.

I guess I understand though..if they have limited numbers why lose profit on a demonstrator when you can just sell all your allocation.

Nope, the 800 is way too high for me, and I love the 650!

Just checking out what improvements have been put into future models, for the day when someone decides to sell his on the secondary market in a few years time.

Of course the free food helps too - it was pretty decent today! Hurry, food until 3pm!

Here are the photos from this afternoon's pre booking..heard only 6 units left for booking now. :D

Yup, 10 are being imported, 4 have been taken, leaving 6. Pretty decent food they have there, their caterer!

Yeah man, they're selling their demo F800ST.

Having said that the F800GS looks like it can sell a fair bit, and the margin looks quite high from the OMV. Probably enough to justify a demo model?

how much is it really gonna be? downpayment = $ ?

anyone signed up to go for the official lauch?

booking fee for the f800gs is $4k...

downpayment inclusive of booking fee altogether is around $7-8k.

interest rate for loan is about 3.8%

machine price for

F800GS - $28.7k

F650GS - $24.9k

Road tax - $204

Registration Fee - $140

Insurace (31-50yrs) - $942

For $4k more... you will get spoke rims, USD fork, twin disc floating brakes instead of 1 (F650GS) comes with single disc brake at the front, skid plate, hand protectors, slightly taller windshield, front fender protector, and a bit more hp.

The rest are most likely the same. The seat for F800GS is slightly higher than F650GS.

I not sure how it works with BMW but with other brands you get a factory rebate on a demo model anyway.

Also, some people don't want to buy demo because they think it's been thrashed - if they only got 10 in first bunch that's probably why they not make one a demo.

I have a no-ride no-buy policy after finding a particular bike I bought once looked good, went good but handled and stopped terribly - brakes are kind of important for me!

Regardless of demo or not I am sure the 800 will be a success here. The 1200 is total overkill for the type of touring done by Singapore riders and the 800 gives you that little bit more than the 650.

I didn't go yesterday to look - would have been too tempting to make an exception to my policy!

How much can a demo be thrashed compared to a bike on the secondary market that you buy that's gone 50,000km? For me, I'd always prefer take my chances on an item where the price has already factored in any potential downside, than to buy something new and waste my money.

Hehehe.....lucky u didnt post this in the beemer thread :p

personally, i find the 1200gs underpwred for my liking. Esp. after it starts to heat up, an even further pwrloss.

do a quick calculation, pwr to weight ratio of the 800 is similar to the 1200.

800 weighing less, also has 20-25 less hp and 18% less torque?

i ride without panniers, much easier to move around and cut lanes while in standing traffic.

the flip side of the argument that i have yet to experience is the convenience that panniers/boxes provide, been riding for a while and never really rode a bike with panniers/top box.

Hi Blackie21,

I ride without the panniers on my R1100R too. I find the panniers too wide for local traffic condition when most of the time we have to lane split.

I've had bikes with top box. They are a convenience when new and waterproof. Heavy stand and box will adversely affect the handling of your bikes. Maybe not so much for the boxers as the bulk of the weight is hung low.
