Hi Guys,

What precaution do you all take when parking your bike at overseas hotel;particularly hatyai's and genting highland's.

Do you request for front lobby parking or such? Or make do with the normal basement and open air carpark

cheers

I went up genting, 1st world hotel recently.. parked at the basement carpark near the entrance.. I locked my front wheel with a long lock, padlock for rear wheel and used a long chain to lock my friend's bike and mine together. Sibeh Kiasu..

There was a security guardhouse near the entrance of the carpark, the the security guards were looking at us wondering what we are doing.. haha. Anyway.. i notice other malaysian bikes also had locks on their wheels.

Not sure about lobby parking though.. didnt ask.. but we were well equipped with lots of lock. Overall i tink parking near the security area make me feel a little better, and i check my bike every morning. Cheers!

erm..e topic was abt parkin safety..hw come u talkin abt navigation n maps..hahaha..or mebbe u ts friend..

The first time I drove to Germany many years ago I felt the same as you, but by the time I got there from Dover, I had got quite used to driving on the right, you'd be surprised how easy it is when everyone coming towards you is on what used to be 'your' side of the road.

All road signs are now of European standard so you will have no problem there.

I know you have sat nav, but getting some good maps will also give you the confidence of having a good idea of where you are going.

Does any experienced guys know usually if theft of the bikes occur, were the thieves able to defeat the chains/padlocks/brake disc locks?

Or is it only those bikes not using extra locks that get stolen?

Even if there were chain lock breakers, I'd believe it'll take time for them to break it.

To them, the amount of time for them to make it away with your bike is precious because for instance if they are in a parking garage like a hotel, definitely the security guards would be alerted by then.

But one thing that I know (and that has been shown on TV) is the one-bike two-men-carry method. All they need to do is to lift your bike into a vehicle and off they go. This is a pretty easy way for them to circumvent the security of handlebar-locks and/or disc-brake locks.

If you were to ask me, I'd second chaining many bikes together so it'll make it difficult for them to steal the bike(s).

Be patient with your ride. It'll stay upright for you - Anonymous

Ya...

I have read about carrying bikes into vans, and also seen videos of 'branded' chains cut in seconds. So wondering in real life whether the thieves are able to do it in our region.

Posted

of course it happens.

5 guys and 10seconds is all that is needed to carry it into the van, locks and all.

goldwing, u need 8 guys

Most people go through life following the crowd.

Others think for themselves.

They go their own way.
