Yes, occasional outages are not uncommon. Your expectations must change if you want to change your life. There is a tradeoff for every decision made.

I remember some issues, but that can be easily solved if you are prepared. as Blackdawn says.....some tradeoffs.

1) Power outages. Standby a generator, and make sure you arent reliant on gahment electricity to open gates or operate some electricals. Best if you can share the generator usage with your neighbours. Your fridge might become a problem. And if you have electronics with you. Use a good though expensive power surge multiplug. You will thank me later.

2) Water pressure. Your 2nd storey rooms will have that problem. Hot water heater also is a issue if you have a power outage.

3) Extreme quietness. The chirping of crikets might drive you insane. Mosquitos too....if you dont want to rely on aircons. (I miss those kumpong days with mosquito nets and a fan. Torch lights is so fun. I recently was able to live that lifestyle while living in Thailand, so nostaligic.)

4) Crime. So make sure your place & people are well secured and avoid showing off too much stuff to your neighbours and even the so called security guards. Also make sure your home has lots of people to deter would be burglars.

I'm a PR staying in JB, quite near to AGL. Will be riding in and out daily. At the moment, I haven't ride my bike back here yet as I'm waiting to install the alarm on my bike before bringing it back. Main concern as of now is the security. Might get a chain too, on top of the alarm and disc lock I have now.

Have seen the long queues/jam, it's quite terrible, though I have not experience it yet. My work starts at 9.30 am, hopefully it won't take too long for me to reach my office if I leave at 8.30, considering I'm only 10 minutes away from M'sia custom.

you work start 930? better u leave at 6am. trust me.

Bro, 6 am is way too early. I left at 8.10 am and reached my office on time still. :p

Basket...I live near town, and take classes in town. And I still need 30 minutes travel time on a good smooth day.

Aye Sis depends la. Sometimes I don't feel like getting stuck in the jam, then I will just use the second link, extra distance but very smooth traffic. Anyway, I'm pumping petrol in Msia already, so might as well cover the extra distance. If I use the Woodlands checkpoint, should be

I used to be studying in town too. This sem I am going to self study.

Looks like i have to give it a shot though. Can't tahan staying here already.Anyway i got a good blog about this angmoh couple stayin in Nusajaya in workin in SG.

Bro, I used to stay in Taman Kempas when I was much younger and studying in secondary school. I usually get late for my school most of the times. Lol. I do think sufficient sleep is very important though, so have to really discpline yourself.

yes, good advice. I saw some bungalows have guard dogs, if terrace house, avoid corner units as these are targeted for bulgary.

Guards dogs are not foolproofed though. They get poisoned, before any bulgarly. Best is keep that home as poor looking as possible, with nothing valuable. And have the wife, girls and boys learn to hide/run somewhere safe, should there be any home intrusion.

Follow the American style? Train the children to climb out of the home and run to a safe neighbout to call for help.

yes, i heard of stories where guard dogs are fed with drugs that make them go sleepy before the burglars act.

Nah....even guarded communities are not safe. There will always be such happenings, unless you make sure the home is forever staffed/lived in by big burly guys. Even condos gets broken into, by 'friends of the guards'.

Sorry to hear that your colleague's house got broken into.

I must be glad that the security guards downstairs makes an effort to take down the particulars of the person who would tow away motorcycle so as to keep track of any missing or lost.
