Should I get a Honda SP or a Kawasaki KRR? Pros/Cons?

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm planning to get a 2B sports bike.

I like the design and shape of SP & KR. So I was wondering which one would you all recommend me, in terms of speed/pickup and cost of maintenance/servicing.

I saw a SP & KR, both @ $3,500 at a shop with COE until year 2020. (Is the price steep?)

It'll be great if you can list both the pros and cons of both bikes :thumb:

*****

Questions:

1) When I buy from the shop, will the shop service the bike for me?

2) How would I know whether the SP bike is a NSR PROARM, or a NSR RR?

3) Must I overhaul my engine when I get the bike?

4) How often should I maintain/service the bike?

clutch houseing + plate => 450

clutch pate=> 110

chain and sprocket (last for long time)=> 120

tires (front and back)=> 180

full service(take out everything and wash exclude changing of parts)=> 120

service and tune cub =>40

good 2T (motul)=>29+-

engine oil & spark plug => 70

fork seal => 80 each

piston => 110

2t tank =>15

brake pump=>45

brake pad (good and lasting) =>50

clutch and throttle cable =>15 each

5) Every time I service, must I change the top mentioned items?

6) What parts should I change monthly/yearly?

7) Does both bikes require 2T?

*****

Would really appreciate all your advice/opinions/answers :)

Neither, TZM ftw. Huhuhu

1)Depends on the shop

2)Its swingarm.

3)If it is really crappy, yes, if it runs fine then no.

4)Some go by distance, I go by date, I service my bike every month but that's just me.

5)Servicing is usually just changing your gear oil, wash carb, flush coolant and put in new coolant but for old 2 strokes like mine, every month there's something new because its old.

6)Not sure, whatever breaks you replace.

7)Yes, don't forget to top them up unless you want an early death.

I newbie too but this is what I learnt, maybe the pros can give better insight.

It's close to double what I'd pay for either bike. If you've that amount of cash on hand for a bike I'd suggest going for an '04 or '05 Aprilia RS125 instead.

1) When I buy from the shop, will the shop service the bike for me?

Depends on the shop.

2) How would I know whether the SP bike is a NSR PROARM, or a NSR RR?

A pro arm only holds the wheel on 1 side. A swing arm holds the wheel on both sides.

NSR SP - Pro Arm

NSR RR - Swing Arm

3) Must I overhaul my engine when I get the bike?

Depends on the condition of the engine.

4) How often should I maintain/service the bike?

Change the gear oil every 3000KM or so. Most people change their spark plugs along with their gear oil, you needn't do so as the spark plug can last over 20,000KM easily.

5) Every time I service, must I change the top mentioned items?

Not unless they're spoilt.

6) What parts should I change monthly/yearly?

Depends on what needs to be changed.

7) Does both bikes require 2T?

Yes because they're 2 stroke bikes.

@Squirtle

3.5k with 2020 coe is very expensive imo.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/319891-Selling-SP-COE-to-2020.-letting-go-ard-1.7k.-nego

coe until 2020, 1.7k only?

i am not affiliated with that seller anyway, so no personal benefit here.

and yea both bikes needs 2t. they are 2 stroke bikes.

I saw this price tag at a shop. I won't be able to pay 1.7K upfront, that's why I thought of buying from shop so can pay installment. I'm only able to down the insurance. For machine price wise, I have to pay installment :/

But most shops I visited in the West all $3K and above for KRR/SP

How much does a 2T cost? How long can a bottle of 2T last?

If they do service, what parts will they service? Or they just check whether the bike able to move then call you back to pick up the bike?

How much?

See the brand, see the type, see the size of the bottle.

Mineral is the cheapest with semi synthetic being more expensive and full being the most, Mobil 1 full synth if I'm not wrong is around 20+ per litre and there are better, more expensive ones like Pennzoil.

How long it will last?

Depends on how you ride, ride hard, use more. I see the base of my 2T pump tank, I top it up eventhough I know the 3/4 of the tank is full.

Hi all! i've got a question here! which option is more feasible? i just passed tp and im 21.

A: get a sp, either with 2013 coe or 202x coe, scrap or sell depending on the coe..

B: get a x1r, just ride till i get class 2A. which will be around 2013 as well..

i understand that once i get a transport, no matter how sure will lose money.. trying to see which option will lose the minimum. i will definitely upgrade to class 2A! SUPER 4!

I wanna ask, is there an electric starter for SP? Or only can kick start? If can put electric starter, how much will it roughly cost?

You want to lose less money, get an X1r, have you considered the Spark?

buy x1r. maybe u can consider spark as well. lesser problems compared to sp as sp is old and sports bike, tend to have more and really a lot of problems.

so option B

I'd go for the pro arm. It's easier to change the tyre. In terms of handling, there's not really any difference unless you're on a track and trying to wring every last split second difference in lap times.

There's no electric starter. If you want a 2 stroke 2B sports bike with an electric starter you'll have to get the RS125 or Mito.
