Hi riders! Newbie from JB and currently owns an old Kawasaki ZZR 250. As stated in title, need some advice about alarms. Currently thinking of installing a 2 way alarm. Firstly easier for me to warm up my bike from inside my house, and secondly helping to prevent it from being stolen. Anyone has any comment on this? Recommendation on specific type? Are they easy to be installed ourselves? My budget about S$130. Your responds will be much appreciated. Thanks.

$130 can get. If you look in the Advertisers' Section of SBF, you can sometimes get nice alarm promos. During CNY there were alarms for sale below SGD100.

My pick would be the Steelmate two way alarm.http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/287427-Steelmate-Motorcycle-2-way-alarm-Model-883-98-(Usual-Price-108)?highlight=Alarm

DIY would be pretty simple if you know your way around electrical diagrams and are confident in taking apart your own bike's bodywork. For 'reduced liability', it's better to get a shop to do the installation. From the above seller's link it appears install @ shop = + $20. $20 only might as well toss the matter to shop.

Alarms should not be the only solution. Are you parking in a well lit place at night? Do you cover your bike with canvas? Change some nuts and bolts to security screws? Disc lock the bike? These are some actions you can take to prevent thefts.

As for microwave, if set too sensitive, it will cause false alarm (cat passing by). If set less sensitive it will only cover a small area. It cannot protect the whole bike. How I wish if it is possible to install 2 or 3 points of parameter sensors.

Anyway there are many alarms in the market. I myself am using alarm on my bike. Been happy with my Scorpio Alarm investment for many years already.

Mine is the old one. SR-i500. The alarm has been transferred for a total of 3 bikes. I think the alarm has been with me for 5 years already.

I heard that even rain can trigger the sensor, is there any way to prevent this or any system thats more 'intelligent'?

Reduce sensitivity on the microwave sensor. Majority has setting option.

Rain might also trigger disc lock w alarm :(
