Hi Greysnail and everyone, Just wanted to share Sparrow pix. I got the luggage today - the topbox has a brake light; William at Seng Kwang built a really nice adapter for me so I could fit the N35 sport bike luggage (see how it hugs the frame?). He built it before seeing the boxes, so the turn signals are kind of squished. I'll have him move them to a better location. He also built a bracket for me to move the ERP thing out of the way. You can see the USB plug on the dash, and I moved around some of the instruments Reza put up as well. The gear indicator is hugely useful.

Friday I'm having Mah's install the topbox pillion backrest and the Jaws driver and pillion foot peg lowering kits that arrived yesterday :-)

Still waiting on the Variobars. And I haven't decided if I want to get a Melboy seat or just go with Eugene. After paying for the Givi boxes, Eugene is sounding better and better...

I want to add some kind of small tank bag so I can store my passport, wallet, phone and maybe GPS while I'm riding. I haven't decided on wrapping the headers yet. New exhausts seem like an expensive option without much return on investment, no?

I have some other minor tweaks in mind, but I think this is the major stuff. I'm most looking forward to fixing the ergonomics. There's no way I could ride long distance with such a forward lean. The variobars, footpeg lowerers and less angled seat will make it more like my old Triumph Sprint ST - a sportish-tourer! Haha!

One other question - it feels like there's a lot of play in the chain. Anyone have any experience with this? I read somewhere that the stock chain tensioner isn't very good. Could also be that the chain is old, or maybe the sprocket, after 87,000 km. I'm going to have Mah's look at it when they do the wiring for the luggage on Friday.

Ur bike looks like its ready to ride to Thailand!!

As for chain, try to get it tensioned, or change the chain and sprocket.

Y not settle for a small tankbag since u've have the tankbra. Dats where i keep my passport, fon, cigs and raincoat, might be able to squeeze for some tools too.

Hey Laura,

You can consider using Oxford Eyeshot Nano indicators. They are small and they are BRIGHT. I didnt have to relocate my rear indicators when I had my panniers on. A snug fit.

The bike pic doesnt do justice, but i think you know what i mean.

The boxes weren't cheap. I think the bracket from Seng Kwang was $600? Plus I had to get the Givi side mounting brackets (the ones the boxes affix to) and the top plate from Mah's. Seng Kwang built the adapter brackets so they would fit on the Blackbird. The boxes themselves weren't cheap either - $1,200 for the set of side and top boxes. More expensive than the stock Honda ones - but GOOD LUCK trying to get hold of the stock set! Out of production, and no more out there that I could find.

Cheaper alternative is the standard Givi mount boxes, i.e. the square ones, not the N45 made for sport bikes. That way you can get the stock Givi brackets - the Wingrack - rather than having to make something custom. I have the mounting kit that affixes the Wingrack to the Blackbird, which I got and didn't use. There aren't many out there, cuz the bike is out of stock. If you're looking to mount a Wingrack to your Blackbird, I probably have one of the last ones.

By the way Laura, being a poor rider, not able to afford Variobars, here's my alternative. Still using stock handlebars but i raised it abt 10cm from the top yoke.

Tried and tested at high speed run and also on track without any issues. Just make sure the throttle cables have enuff slack and to tightened the clamp nut accordingly.

I'm afraid I have client meetings until 9:30p tonight :-(

On another note-

Does anyone have experience with Eugene Saddlery? I think I'm going to try him for my seat. I'm hoping he can make something for me that looks like a Melboy in front and a Corbin Lady for the pillion. Is that something he can pull off?

Hi Reza!

No, they didn't mention that they knew the bike. The mechanic was really good though. I see why people like these folks. Mah's didn't want to touch the lowerers; these guys tackled them like pros. And it was only $30, which blew me away.

The bike is really a *lot* more comfortable. They're not that much lower, but enough to make a noticeable difference. We'll see how the heat goes. For now, the extra room is decisive. Big improvement.

Next step - sorting out the placement of the luggage. Too far forward, so back to Swng Kwang. Then Eugene's seat, then the Variobars and we're good to go!!
