You could actually have approach him and give him a piece of your mind. Never leave it like dat... You will only know the damage abt 2 or 3 days later, den you have to fork out money for some selfish or stupid persons mistake. Atlease get his NRIC number, address and mobile contact.

If traffic jammed enough, he won't even know where the bike is a second later.

I was lanesplitting just now and I hit a car left mirror. His mirror bent forward, but no cracks or major damages. The driver came out to take my license plate and a photo of my bike. What should I be expecting? Any advice? I apologised to the guy though.

Most prolly he will send for repair on the left side mirror as it has turned the other way around. You should just expect the invoice of the repair. That should be all. May i ask what car was that?

It's a hyundai. Not sure what model it is though. Is it possible for him to claim me even if there is no damage to his mirror?

Indeed there was no damage done but think about it, his left side mirror turned to the front. Dont think any side mirror of a car can do that, correct me if im wrong. They only open or closed up. Hope you get what im trying to explain.

most cars nowadays come with the function to have the side mirrors turn forward in such incidents. no biggie.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

I always thought this might happened to me and it really does happened to others. That is why I dash through spilt lane when the road is jam. But riding through spilt lane also has its hazards such as car lane change without signaling.

As jams get worse, I hit car mirrors more often but as long as its a slight brush, I can't be bothered to stop, too dangerous too, got train of bikes behind me, readjust mirror on the go and go on with normal riding.

Some car drivers complain us of riding in the spilt traffic but they are not in our shoes so they don't know. They expect us to queue up behind them. Also they wanted us to keep to the extreme left lane and queue up in front of lorries at the expressway. Guys what do u think?should we follow the book or not?

Do whatever that keeps you safe, short of not riding. :)

Hell no. When lorries rear end us, we don't get slight bump, we die.

I guess riders who hit cars' side mirrors before, u're ok with cars banging ur side mirror as well? Or will u feel that the drivers are trying to kill u or find fault with u?

Liverpool revival has started....

when i am driving i always make sure bikes got enough room to squeeze through, so far no bikes hit my car mirror when i am driving, but i only drive like 1-2 times a month. And i only hit a car mirror quite hard once when i just got my first bike. other than that i only hit lorry or suv mirror near traffic light as their mirror is really too big, the last time i hit a lorry mirror was like 6 months ago already.

i hit a back of a van on my second day of riding. go into the gap too fast then bang. Heng no damage to the van or my bike. I did hit a car's side mirror once. I judged wrongly, thought the distance is enough to squeeze thru. The mirror didnt fall off or anything, it just kinda just turn forward. Thats was within 3 months after i passed. Now almost a year alr, so far so good.

Anyone has the feeling that your side mirrors are wide and it may hit the cars mirror while lane splitting? Especially in static traffic jams when cars on both sides are not moving. Feel like changing to smaller mirrors. Any suggestions?

I noticed some bikes don't have mirrors. Isn't that dangerous?

I ever slightly bumped into a BMW's side mirror before. The driver winded down his window, pressed the side mirror button on his dashboard to see if the mirror still fully functional, it is. He then look at me and said "dun gun choing young man! i also ride motorbike one!". I stunned. i said sorry then i rode away.

There's a difference between intentional and unintentional. If a car is bangs into my side mirror that means the car is intentionally squeezing me out of my lane, pushing me to the road shoulder or kerb, intentionally trying to kill me. I've seen cars who do this before, especially Msian ones. When I bang into a car mirror, its unintentional, if I bang into one out of many I've filtered through, that means the car was just slightly closer but not close enough to be obvious, if too close it would hit my handlebar.

You should know if you ride often in heavy traffic. Most of the time there's no damage because your mirrors can bend and theirs are tougher than you think. Take down license plate also no point, insurance companies would not bother with cosmetic damage or no damage for that matter.

if car drivers can have the courtesy to drive in the middle of their own lane, i doubt there will be a lot of mirror knocking case. I do not pity any car whose mirror gets knocked because they are out of their lane or they attempt to change lane without signalling.

I ever knocked thru a taxi's mirror (nv drop or damage) during traffic jam because he's practically driving 1/3 of his vehicle on the line. 2 minutes later, a bike behind me came forward and gave me a thumbs up.

Practical Test Checklist:

√ Sudden and late braking

√ Faulty signal lights

√ Superb use of horn

√ Assume road belongs to father

√ Never at fault no matter what happens

√ Tailgating confidence

Result: YES! You qualify to become a Singapore car driver!

Just curious, is lane splitting frowned upon by TP? ie if you lane split on the expressways and they see you, can it be taken as dangerous riding?

Posted

Not sure bout that. But what I do know is LTA officers lane split at high speeds between cars as if they're lacers. I've seen it with my own eyes.

Ride fast..ride safe..don't crash...
