Hmm !! Maybe you should read the whole thread from 1 to 108 pages first. Otherwise stick to whatever you got now.

Seriously NOTHING to be concerned about with the SW !!! Just put petrol and ride. Every 12 thou Km go to Honda agent and they will know what to do. Just be prepared to pay & pay !!

Ya...i seem to be having that problem, the plugs were quite black.... but bcos i ride a 600cc version so not that many mechanic are experienced to tune it...... the vacum gauge u are toking abt has like 2 bars that runs up and down rite.. saw the mechanic use it on a super 4 before... din koe wat it does....

will go check it out.... and the air filtr has been changed....

thanks again for the advice..

cheers

That type of vacuum gauge dates from pre digital era ! But quite OK. Normally used for 4 cylinder engines. Simple and easy to set up.

For your SW 600 suggest that you visit this web site - a lot of good information.

Firstly you are right the new IU got some hiccups ! Secondly why use 98 ? 95 more than enough, 92 also no problem. The IRC tires very good MIJ. and last longer - at least 16K plus Kms. Later when need to change then try other brands.

Dont fiddle with the Idling - leave at 1200. later it will go up a bit. But leave alone if between 1300 to 1400. This will affect your lubrication oil pump - too slow and not enough lube oil to the engine, valves, cams etc.

Just remember to change your EO and oil filter at less than 1,000KMs. Use recommended grade 40SAE or 10W40. As the oil dont run through a gearbox or clutch i strongly recommend that u use a good full synthetic oil for the next 12,000 Kms.

All the best & enjoy your new ride.

sw9000 - yup, got a free box, ermm givi 45L..

IU i fix on top of the handle bar. heard some say put in the compartment might not work. anyway i prefer on top of handle bar. the compartment is good for other things. needed the space..

Kris Rider - thx for the advise. will leave the idle as it is.

will b changing EO at 500km, 1000km, 2000km finish run in. yup will be getting good full synthetic oil.

oh my bad... never read manual.. didnt know can use 92. thought min is 95.. thx for the info, can save more. next pump will b 95.

hey kris, nid to clarify smth as i m still a newbie at my 760thKM :D

after 1000km oil change, we can use fully-synthetic oil and engine is considered broken-in? we can travel at higher speed, right?

the fully-synthetic oil can last 12,000 KM?

1st - IU still old version, ask about y not new IU, say they have not bring in the new IU yet, bah bah bah..

====>my fren nearly got smoked. He remember LTA states tat bikes roll out after 1 Sep should be equipped with New IU.. He quoted that then bike SHOP LL gave him.

aiya i know they r just clearing the old 1.. still ok for me as im not interested in the new IU oso.. heard some carpark having problem going out with the new IU.

If i were you. I still get it cos you are consumer and its ur right. The problem will be rectified and at some point old IU will be faced out. Imagine u still have to fork out $154 in futureo_O

This is another tatic they use to clear old stock. If u don believe U try going there few days later (or if there's another bro took bike from there) check his tire.. I bet u its different.

Thanks scoobydoo for your guidelines.. really helps..

As for the final drive oil, is it recommended to use 10w40 oil? SO that means our leftover fully-synthetic engine oil can be used to replace it rite, no need to buy additional gear oil?

I only put 2 litre of engine oil on my SW 400. Will it damaged my engine? 2.6 litre for full right? how abt spark plug? how many inside?:dot:

2 plug

Many workshop says if changing oil only, 2 liters enough but if changing oil and filter together, its 2 plus plus liters. Which means I have to purchase 3 bottles of oil.

BUT........

the last time I went to Boon Siew, the mechanic who service my bike says 2 bottles enough already even with filter change. I did quote other wkshops says need more than 2 liters if doing filter change also.

But he says nonsense and too much oil also no good.

Hmmmm. . . . ..

Now I'm lost. Want to believe other workshop mechanics or Agent machanic?

Which one should I thrust?:giddy:

BTW FYI. . . .

Those who purchase their beloved SW from agent or other shops (but get their bikes from Boon Siew), the 1st 3 servicing at Boon Siew will have their service charge waived!!!!

Its much cheaper then if you go to other wkshops to do service!

But you have to bring along your original warranty card from Honda/BS also.

My shop which i purchased my bike didn't tell me that!!!!

I have to found out myself when I went there personally to get my warranty card!!!

the manual says approximately 2.2l in the procedures which involves oil filter change.

i would strongly recommend changing filter every time you change EO coz "clean EO + dirty filter = not so clean EO"

there is a theory that overfilling EO could cause damage to the engine gasket but dunno how true :)

In that case I should trust the manual.

Maybe the agent mech made a mistake.

hi guys,

jz found out installing voltmeter will void warranty? wad abt installing hazard light?

my bike is at 900km liao. no time to go BS for service also. haiz. will warranty be void if i go there at 1000 plus (maybe 1100km?)?

To All current, New and Future SW riders & owners PLEASE read your Manual and if you really know how to surf on line go to the Silverwing.org web site and look under the maintenance threads (other threads also very usefull). That way all your doubts will be cleared. Listening to your mechanics and believing them are two totally different things. They off course will do or say anything to save their time and/or earn your money.

My best advise is DIY ! Buy a workshop manual of your model and go to a good tool shop (like those at Jalan Besar area) and get the additional or better tools that you need. This is a bike that is best when left STANDARD and without all those after market changes / additions OR TUNING by some overzealous mechanic. All this means leave your bike and all its settings at what was set in the factory. Without accident or tampering your SW will go and go for at least 10 years - just follow the manuals stipulated maintenance schedule and use recommended parts & lubricants.
