HI All,

I want to check, can the fire safety committee be exactly the same as the workplace safety and health committee and conducts the meetings in tandem ? And generate separate Minutes of meetings. Thanks

Posted

hi aircraft,

why do you want to do that?

just have a wsh committee meeting (which is a legal requirement) and within the committee discuss about fire safety, chemical safety (if got chemical), office safety, etc and record everything in one minutes.

hi jadejerry,

since aug 2011, consass audit shall be carried out for all wshsms according to cp79. so the price would be the same for a normal audit, say betw $2,500 to $3,000.

bizsafe level 3, no idea.

Hi guy,

just OTT a bit, any idea how much a safety auditor will get for a CONSASS audit? It is spread 2 day. And the pay for Bizsafe 3 and audit based on CP79

i like the way you say it.

many turn to safety bcos of high salary.

my first year in safety line, i thot of quitting. for the pay is low, no bonus, low esteem, no one cares abt safety, mgt no support, no budget, no planning, workers die hard no follow safety, even your own safety boss only cares abt revenue...

but i am oso die hard abt saving lives and changing ppl's mindset.

now ppl pay me to seek my advice and spend time and money to do wat i say.

i did not do anything new or different. i just stay on.

a young man came to me for advice.

how can i make big money in safety?

i told him to take any safety opportunity that may be;

don't care about the salary;

do part-time to subsidise the bring home pay if need be;

he walked away in misery. for he has much to loose to do safety.

if you are making 3k and have to take a pay cut of 2.5k or lower to do safety, will you be crazy enough to switch and start your career all over again??

it may too crazy for someone to do safety.

Hi mr tay,

its fine for me, i have been out of job due to doing my diploma full-time. after that, i intend to start taking courses in WSH, and am starting my basic course in april, after which i will go for the advanced course. just wondering if u guys have any advice to start off when i finish that course, thats all.

i have background in doing a safety-related job, not in marine or construction or oil/gas industries, but as a packer and checker of parachutes for the saf. being meticulous and adamant in procedures is one of the requirements of that job.

plus, i'm willing to take on any additional part time assignments at other sites to supplement my income. with a bike, singapore is not that big also.

i'll just do my best to ask around and drop my resumes at job search sites then.

If anyone else has advice, it would be great to hear from u. :)

hi whitefang,

for your situation, suggest you join a consultancy firm and start from the lowest level. let the bosses dictate you for the first 2 years. learn as much as you can from various industries and ppl. keep in touch with clients, counterparts, colleagues...

some consultancy firms you may consider: spot management, bond international, etc. not that they are good but they have big clients base.

all the best.

Hi Tay,

Thks for your prompt reply. Because it is also a legal requirement (Fire Emergency Plan Regulation) to form a fire safety committee. So effectively I need 2 committees which I feel that its difficult to manage if they are different ppl.

Can any bros here share how you manage this in an efficient and effective way ? thanks !

hi aircraft,

you can always name the committee as "fire and safety committee".

one stone kills 2 birds lah. don't waste time having 2 meetings and putting up 2 minutes. unless you have 2 separate secretary. if you are the only chap around to do one-leg kick, make your life easy.

otherwise spend more time posting here is more fruitful.

if you are employed to do audit full-time, the pay would come betw 5k to 6.5k. which means the auditing company has a large base of clientele and charge a good sum of money.

if you can add more NEW clients to the base, you may be paid a commission on top of your salary.

to some, audit job is boring.

U need to take CU1-6 in order to become a full-fledged accredited trainer. NTUC learning hub conducts that course among others
