I would like to seek some advice from you guys. I am 33 this year holding a diploma in manufacturing by NYP and this year i have been enroll to BSc Human Factors in Safety(3~4yrs) offer by Unisim.

I am currently working as a Engineering Specialist in a Manufacturing company and i would like to make a career path switch to safety industry.

I intend to register as a WSH Officer upon graduation but I do not have any safety experience background. Therefore, should i first take WSH Level A, Level B, WSH Level C, FSM certificate concurrently while studying my degree and find any safety-related job to gain the required 2-year experience? Or these certifications can wait till i finish my degree?

If yes, the degree that i am studying is Human Factors (Ergonomics). Should i apply for Ergonomics safety job (Do you know any job which is relevant?)

Pls help as I am kinda lost here.

There is no Ergonomics safety job in SG as far as I know. Ergo is only part of health.

One of my lecturer in UNI who worked in SGH is an Ergo expert.

One of the ergo report may cost more than 10k. Seen his Ergo report when I was in a US MNC. Too bad I have read the report after I have completed that module.

EHS consists of Environmental, Health and Safety. Ones need lots of experience to be expert in one of these. I am only a generalist in EHS.

Tmr signing appointment letter, a load off my mind, not too bad. I guess after 2 months of jobless void period.

In fact, I am enjoying and made new friends and also build some network.

Those over leveraged for the past few years, tought times and challenging envirnoment.

First thing to cut, are those departments that are not bringing in revenue....

safety will always be a cost centre than profit centre.

for those looking for jobs and future prospect, please look toward the changi airport or changi east. there will be enough jobs to house many singaporeans in the next 15 years.

another area is the lta. at least another sgd15 billions will be spent in our rail sytem in the next 10 years. coastal line will be up next.

prolonged low oil price will see many oil and gas related company fold up. many ppl will lose job.

the only sector that will boom will be the construction, provided the government is not holding back.

we need to build at least another 20 hospitals, another 50 nursing homes, another 100 shelters for the underprivileged, etc.

Nowadays everyone is cost cutting, EHS on the other hand don't save upfront money for the company...
