Like 2 strokes, we won't really see much development in them even if they outmanuever and outrun 4 strokes of any configuration of the same capacity.

each design have it's own problems n restrictions.

wankel rotor have 3 panes, therefore 3 firing in one rotation.

major problems with rotary:

1) three combustions in one cycle = too hot, need super cooling, thus cooling system too large n over weight.

2) one cycle, three combustions = very high fuel consumption, thus not fuel efficient.

 

as compare:

2-strokers = one cycle, one combustion.

4-strokers = two cycle, one combustion.

 

u can see the trend,

one cycle with more combustions = less fuel efficency.

more cycles with one combustion = very fuel efficency.

if u can design an engine with 3-cycle tat combust one, u can save the world from carbon pollutions.

The Norton NRV588 bike didn't seem to require a large cooling system though, unlike the Suzuki one, besides, it wouldn't be a race bike if you're concerned about fuel efficiency, if touring, 2 strokers would be a huge hassle and a wankel would need a rebuilt soon.

u can't see wat under the faring.

wankel engine is suppose to be tiny but wrap around by it's cooling system.

it's really pact without any room left.

 

norton classic air-cool bike can see how large the cooling fins are.
