Would like to participate , DIY myself for oil change (most regular thing that I do myself) . does washing include .. ?

Think that basic maintenance/ inspection should also be included because this is the most frequent thing that we riders should be able to do for ourselves and most new bikers are unaware how to, so it'll be good to share?

Hopefully three to five years down the road, this thread will have a thread count in the hundreds and alot of ppl would be joining for activities in this thread.

TS good luck

Doing everything DIY that I can now.. Judging by the way things are rite now , it is for the best..

Makes you stronger and less dependent on bike shops.

Encourage others to do likewise and help new riders identify fair deals online~ thus making direct seller to buyer purchases.

Its the only way we can push the motorcycle industry in Singapore forward.

Actually after reading from front to back of a J&P cycle aftermarket catalog and few others, I found that you can do almost anything by yourself with your bike.

So there really isn't any good 'projects' for DIY I believe only those that are much easier to do and you could or should do frequently. And those that are harder and might need more time and some research into before starting off.

What I'm trying to say is that the list could go on.. and on.. and on with the endless amount of stuff you can do with your bike and maybe very little people would be contributing.. Maybe what you should ask is 'What are the stuff people are interested to learn or are doing DIY now themselves.. Or are planning to do and get their help needed over here.

I would like to spray my phantom full matt black but i don't have the proper tools.

Bro can let me know what kind of tools are you talking about? Screwdriver, allen keys type of tools.. or those for spraying..

So those who change your own oil... where do you dispose your own oil?

MX trading at Ubi sells Amsoil oils and has a large disposal drum outside his store.

You can dump them there. Got his approval.

Actually the shop earn money from the oil collected from the oil recycling firms.

So give them what you don't need.

Maybe bike shops will turn their heads, so go at night or to your regular service shop.

yes..many improvements can be made..provided you know what you need...

most of us dont...maybe this may be alist of improvement projects..

eg..if this list is started 10 years ago...very frew would have heard of leds lights .brake modulations, glinting leds..etc..

what you have read are some projects done ...newer projects are coming onstream all the time..

progress does not stop ...it just keeps on evolving..

i would like to do a brake light modulations...need help here...electronics expert can you design a low cost one?? available in the market commercially are. expensive..

so hopefully some smart people can come out with a low cost equivalent...

eg..diy some simple oilers..and now

i have designed a low cost oiler as an alternative to the high price one sold in singapore.

so there are spin offs..

all budding diyers and inventors ..some started this way...

the famous hp and their pc in a garge..and many more..

so keep the list going..old and tried diys..or some spanking new ideas are welcomed..

if there is sufficient intetest...will end up with diys...learn it the fast way..hands on..

keep the ideas coming...this is the first step...maybe at some point of time have to sort

.. this to different categories as some diys are morecomplicated than others..

...

keep it coming

dont dispose. if you got go read up, the used engine oil is actually a very very lubricant for your chain as the engine seasoned the oil alr, then the oil is very smooth for your chain. so double usage. save money and environment. go read up! =)=)

used eo= useless eo..

bad choice for chain lube...

the big con by bike shop is to give you free lube of used eo..you feel so good but haha...

as the used eo the life as a lubricant is over....

by using thois used eo..you dont know whats in it..all sorts of bad stuf in it..especially swarf rom the worn engine parts...

anyway a few rides the used eo will be gone as a result of throw offs...and the wear and tear will begin,,sooner than later..do this many times...and your chain will be a basket case..

this is my personal opinon...those who find using used eo is good practice..go ahead..its your bike not mine..

This i agree.

Think about all the small, tiny metal pieces in your engine, the burnt up carbon etc, getting into the rollers and the nooks and crannies of your chain. In the long run, your chain will be more worn out then if you just use normal chain lube or new eo.

This is a good initiative!

What i would like to learn to DIY is valve clearance.. =)

Meanwhile, things that i've DIY are EO change, sparks, filter, service brake calipers and master cylinder, bleeding brakes & more to come. =)

Yeah, DIY valve clearance would be nice. But you need the thickness gauge. Any ideas one set costs how much?
